best bottle for switching between breast and bottle regularly?

currently using tommee tippie Closer to Nature easi-vent bottles, am finding after every bottle feed he is reluctant to take the next feed from the breast.

really want to be able to give him one EBM feed a day so DH can feed him at midnight allowing me me to sleep 9-3 which means im not so tired.

so your experiances and fav bottles please

I've used these on 2 of my boys and they seem to work fine.

I currently give DS3 a dream feed out of the bottle at 11ish and his next feed isn't till about 6.

Thats the only formula I give him it means I can have a glass of wine in the evening.

we want to do this as well. when did you introduce it so no confusion but didnt reject? DS is 6 weeks.

Another vote for TT Closer to nature, they are working well for me (one bottle a day, from day one, now 8 weeks and no propblems yet).

NUK latex teats or MAM teats. Munchkin bottles were also good.

introduced a bottle from first week, DS only a few weeks old.
am not sure whether its rejection of the nipple or (more likely) he is being lazy as bottles are easier!

i thought the TT C2N ones looked most 'boobie' like, but the flow IMO is too fast as he downs the entire feed in about 2 mins, where as it would usually take him 20-30 mins to BF. he is on the slowest flow as well.

might try a munchkin bottle nappyaddict, i think mothercare sell them.

I started introducing one bottle at 8 weeks but with the other dc2 it was from the begining, with expressed milk`.

This time i cant be bothered expressing my 2 ds try to help so it's always formula when he has a bottle.

Only downside his POOH STINKS

DD1 had avent bottles with tommee tippee nuby teats and was fine, DD2 had the TT C2N bottles and also was fine.

I think perhaps you may have started too soon, maybe skip the bottle a couple of nights and then see how you go, I know it's tiring, could you co-sleep to maximise your sleep hours?

NUK are the best!!!

look here and you will see why, specifically designed to mimic mothers nipple. None of those bad chemicals in the plastic, they also do glass bottles. If you order from that website they deliver really quick.

yea i was going to try a few bottles thru recommendations here then put off for a few weeks if no luck.

cant co-sleep as DH on heavy medication for a kidney problem. will do once he has had his op (end aug) but may not need to by then lol

KEAWYED there is no need to feed him formula if you are having a glass of wine. The amount that gets into your BM is so tiny, really, and it leaves your BM at the same rate it leaves your blood. You can do more harm giving him formula as it removes the protective lining that BM creates around the baby's gut. It takes a while to build back up again.

BTW KEAWYED, there's no need to give formula so you can have a glass of wine, you can still breastfeed if you have had a glass or two, as long as you're not pissed you're fine!!

Natty, could you side car the cot* so you can co-sleep without putting DS between you and DH? It worked wonders for us, lots of room in the "big bed" and lots of sleep for me without having to get up to do night feeds.

*you don't need a special one like this, any drop-side cot can be side car'd easily by taking the drop side off and cable tying the cot to your bed.

unfortuantly my bedroom is far to small for this to be viable, can only JUST get a moses basket in the room, will be moving him to the kids room as soon as he is too big for that.

there is research to show formula at bed time makes them sleep worse too (by 45 minutes per night)...

your lo will hopefully start sleeping through soon anyway...both mine did from 6 weeks (at least until 4-5 in the morning)..not uncommon by any means.

if he is being reluctant to take the boob, best drop bottles for a bit anyway unless you actually want to wean. too many people I know have had their baby refuse the boob point-blank after bottle feeding, even with ebm. (although obviously it works for some people)

yes like i said will drop the bottle if it presents a serious problem.
im offering ebm not formula, and doing it for a break. i had pnd with last baby and part of it was sleep deprivation, so wanted to ensure i am getting a decent block of sleep a night if at all possible.

obviously if i cant i cant, but i want to give it a jolly good try before just giving up that break.

I have supply issues so have had to mix feed both my children, we use the breastflow bottles by first years, you can get them online at amazon and mothercare. BPA free. Worked well with my daughter after the first month, she did fine going between these and the breast. My son still on the SNS system but have bottles ready to go for when I cant' stand it any more!

It's a shame your bedroom won't accommodate the cot idea, what about a crib? We side car'd a crib to begin with and then moved up to a cot when DD2 was about a year old or so. Having to go into another room to do night feeds or even just to settle a teething baby would be gruesome. I know what you mean about PND and sleep deprivation, I'm sure the two are linked, which is why I am prepared to do anything to get a decent kip even if it looks or sounds ridiculous!!

Hi Natty - BreastFlow are doing free samples of their bottles - the website is here - look on the left hand side halfway down. This makes DD work a bit harder than the TT ones we had. BPA free too.

green monkies that is a bloody good idea. i have infact got that crib sitting in a box waiting to be built (ds was 2 weeks early, we were a tad unprepared. moses baskets are much easier to just pop out a box lol)

greenmonkies how did you get the crib to the level of your bed? were you just lucky they were the same height?
oh and how did u fix the problem of the gap between the beds? did u put an extra sheet joining the two?

loads of questions i know but ive never seen that before and its a really really good idea

The crib was a "swinging" one, we adjusted the height using the screw bit and hooks, if you follow me, but it was pretty much the right height any way. We bridged the gap (both with the crib and the cot) by pushing the crib mattress across to meet our bed mattress and using a pillow folded along the length to fill the gap on the other edge. I covered the join with a terry nappy or towel, to soak up milky-leaks to save on sheet changes rather than anything else!

When we were on holiday last summer we side car'd the cot in our room and raised the cot mattress by putting our suitcases and a couple of cushions under so that it was level with our bed, I figure you could come up with something more secure and sturdy if need be!

we have a duvan so had to quite inventive (wedged it between bed and wall with books lol!)
