best bottle for switching between breast and bottle regularly?

currently using tommee tippie Closer to Nature easi-vent bottles, am finding after every bottle feed he is reluctant to take the next feed from the breast.

really want to be able to give him one EBM feed a day so DH can feed him at midnight allowing me me to sleep 9-3 which means im not so tired.

so your experiances and fav bottles please

Where there's a will there's a way! Looks good, hope you have a good sleep tonight.

Perhaps give the night time bottle a miss for a few days but don't give up on bottles entirely, it's so liberating to know they will take a bottle if you do have to leave them for any reason, even if it's just a trip to the movies with a girly-friend!

yea i think im going to do that then try a breastflow bottle.

thanks for the advice everyone

How was it Natty?

Chica31 · 26/07/2009 12:30

New vote for Tommee Tippee Closer to nature. DH does the dream feed at 10 or 11pm with a bottle on the slowest teat. DD is now 9 weeks old and so far no problems. Sometimes if I haven't expressed enough for a full feed I top her off and she goes straight back to latching on to me with no problems.

TheNatty · 26/07/2009 23:02

the bed was good, the baby wasnt!!
he was up all night last night feeding like mad, took ages to get him latched on he is refusing the breast now
have removed bottles completly, and the dummy dh keeps giving him (men!) things slightly better towards end of this evening, we had a bath together, loads of skin on skin cuddles and loads of small feeds.

going to avoid bottles for a few weeks or so, dummy is going completly, dh has his op at the end of next month and will need to introduce the bottle again then as i will have my sister here to help and if she can do evening feed while i put kids to bed that would be good (why do they always want things at the same time! lol)

I found using a dummy was ok as long as i only gave it to DS to go to sleep with and then as soon as he was asleep i removed it.

TheNatty · 27/07/2009 02:22

yes thats what we have been using it for, and we are having the feeding trouble mainly at night. dont know if there is a link or not, we are just trying anything.

also i believe sids advice to use one at night?

im sure we can cope without till feeding is baack on track

it seems like there might be a link. i know using dummies can cause nipple confusion in some babies.

GreenMonkies · 27/07/2009 18:22

I would bin the dummy totally, they do cause nipple confusion, and the SIDS thing is not really relevant if you are nursing at night anyway (you and your boob do the same job as the dummy) so tell DH to stop giving it to him. At this age all sucking should be done on you, to establish your supply and get as much food as possible into him.

Hi Natty - my free bottle took 4 days to arrive - it was the small one which would've cost £5.49 in Mothercare.

JetLi · 28/07/2009 09:27

Hi natty - hoping you've had a better night last night

TheNatty · 28/07/2009 11:38

charlie slept 12-5.30 last night
have binned dummy, and not using bottles until the new freebie one comes in the post.

bonus to that is he was feeding like crazy last few days, and my supply went right up, and he is having less frequent and much longer feeds in the evenings. which explains the long sleep last night i think.

oh and health visitor came this morning. he is now 8lb 14oz (a whole pound increase from birth weight)
she is happy with his weight, she said its a very good sign that he managed to regain his birth weight and put a pound on, esp as we have had problems with nipple confusion, and i had awful cracked nipples int he first 2 weeks. (hence the introducing the bottle in the first place as couldnt feed from one side as it was bleeding so badly it made him sick)

thanks for asking after me jetli, glad you got your bottle in just 4 days, i hope mine comes soon.

Wow, 12-5.30am, bliss!! Co-sleeping babies sleep so much better, and even when they do wake for a feed it doesn't wake you so much. Fab weight gain!!!

TheNatty · 28/07/2009 20:24

i am ever so pleased, praying for an easy night again tonight!

breastflow are no longer doing their free samples

TheNatty · 02/08/2009 18:30

i applied for mine and never recieved it so i went out and bought one instead.
seems to be working well, but only used it once as have developed thrush in my nipples and its too painful to express atm.
i dont want to mess about with formula yet either, incase it effects my supply.

My free one never arrived. DS at 6 weeks took TT bottle with formula fine first time but formula effected his reflux badly and I developed mastitis so got Avent pump to express & feed which he took first couple of times fine. A week later he now fights both bottles with EBM. So shall I try NUK or Breastflow next? Have been trying at bedtime & worried too tired & wants comfort of breast. Fights but takes some bit by bit from me but just screams for DP. What time best to give a bottle? Desperate to introduce 1 bottle a day both for break now but more so at some point I can leave the house without him but not worry that he will wake hungry & distress himself & whoever minding. I also worry if I dont get him to take now, he never will which causes new problems when starts nursery.

nappyaddict · 09/08/2009 10:54

Will NUK or MAM teats fit on your current bottles? If so I'd try those before buying totally new bottles.
