Can anyone think of any soap character that has breastfed for more than a few days?

I remember Laurel did in Emmerdale. Not a soap but Rachel did in friends and even expressed when she went back to work which was nice. In fact Carol breastfed ben as well didnt she - as she left expressed milk which Phoebe tasted...

Steph did briefly in neighbours but couldnt because of her breast cancer treatment.

Dawn did very briefly in Eastenders then gave up...

As a TOTAL aside - I remember watching an episode of corrie a ver, ver long time ago...

Martin Platt was in hospital with baby David (Platt, the tearaway now? Is that right?) and the storyline was something about him banging his head or somesuch and social services being called in to investigate.

ANYWAY, I quite clearly remember him saying "the baby is just crying because he's hungry and being his father I can't do anything about that."

So - Gail breastfed David and it was a normal part of the storyline, so why are they being weird about it now?

And, as it is entirely possible to breastfeed in RL without showing any breast, it is certainly possible to portray it in a soap in a discrete way.

Good - glad not just me angry. This is the THIRD time in about 2 years they have had a negative portrayal of breastfeeding. ONce Kirk making stupid remarks about some woman doing it on a bus, another Liam going on about his wife's mate using a pump and now this!

Years ago a mate of mine who managed community service for the probation service was approached by a researcher for coronation street. it was when Steve was a bad lad and ended up on community service.

This researcher spent a whole day with my friend, looking at how it worked, what the sanctions were when offenders didn't turn up etc. Great. Then however when the storyline turned up on the programme it was like they had completely ignored everything they were told and totally misrepresented the whole thing. Idiots.

I would have more respect for them if they bothered to get their facts right.

Now, I have a theory - which I think I have posted on here before. You will never see any major soap new Mum b/fing for very long because they have to have something to keep those tiny babies quiet during filming. That something is going to be either a bottle or a dummy. Obviously an actress will not be able to physically breast feed a baby whilst pretending to be its mother , so the script writers need to come up with excuses ideas as to why the baby is not being breast fed, which is obviously against all government/WHO guidelines.

I may be totally wrong of course, but it make perfect sense to me. Whenever you see a baby on a soap it has either a dummy or a bottle shoved in its mouth. That is to ensure the baby is kept quiet and not be a nusiance and disturb filming
