DD is only 4 weeks so i'm not expecting it soon but just wondered out of curiosity when it's likely to happen.

DS was ff and slept through at 8 weeks which i know was early. Do ff babies sleep longer sooner?

OP posts:

about 14 months for bf ds2, but he is still not a great sleeper and a squeaky floorboard will wake him.

ds1 was ff from 4 months and slept through from about 6months, always been a great sleeper but now he is 3yrs (and ds2 is finally sleeping), ds1 is now waking up loads!

i do not think the different ages they slpet through had anything to do with the feeding, it is their different characters.

Astrophe · 03/06/2009 12:52

DD slept 11pm until 6am ish from just a few weeks - maybe 6 week?

DS had the odd stint of sleeping 6 to 8 hours, but didn't do it reliably until 14 months, and after that he settled into it gradually.

Now at 3 and 5 they are bith great sleepers and sleep until 7 or even 8am...and number 3 is due in 7 weeks

mawbroon · 03/06/2009 13:31

DS is 3.7yo and still doesn't sleep right through.

Luck of the draw I guess

LovelyTinOfSpam · 03/06/2009 13:37

DD was about 6 months when she went reliably 7-7, I have always considered her to be an excellent sleeper. She went from 11-6 type thing from about 3 or 4 months i think.

BF until 14mo.

Fingers crossed for the next one!

madwomanintheattic · 03/06/2009 13:40

when i stopped bfing at 10 months. up until then he fed 2 hourly 24/7. that's why i stopped lol. i needed to sleeeeeeeep.

the other two were earlier, but i don't remember when exactly....

plimple · 03/06/2009 13:43

One offs at about 8 weeks. I kept waking and thinking she was dead. Not properly til sometime after though - can't remember, definitely by 6 months though. No forcing it, she just did.

Montifer · 03/06/2009 13:53

DS is 1 (just) and still wakes at least once a night. He woke for 3-4 hourly bf until he started eating reasonable amounts of food at about 9months (BLW - which I found was a natural follow on from demand bf, he seemed to know what he wanted and when).

NaccetyMac · 03/06/2009 17:17

DD was 7 months, DS is nearly 4 and still wakes most nights, but not for boob any more - he stopped feeding at 18months. DS2 is 22 weeks and having 2 night feeds.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 03/06/2009 18:08

5.5months (7-7 with dream feed at 10:30) but only very consistently at 6.5months

frogwatcher · 03/06/2009 18:11

dd1 was 4.5 years when she first slept through for a night or two. Still wakes and is 7! dd2 was 1.5 years when she stopped waking. dd3 is 3 years and still waking. All breastfed. You do get used to being awake in the night and feel slightly more with it. I promise.

Mintyy · 03/06/2009 18:17

6 months. 8pm to anywhere between 5.30 - 7.00am. She had no formula, it was all breastmilk, and I didn't do any controlled crying to achieve this. So I have to bite my lip when I see posts along the lines of "you have to expect babies to wake in the night" on Mumsnet. Well, no, you don't always. They don't all need a night feed, and that applies to big babies too (dd born at and remained on 91st centile).

Rosie29 · 03/06/2009 18:25

DD1 around 8 weeks
DD2 properly through the night, i.e every night, at around 3 months
DS1 a few weeks ago at the age of 7 weeks

notcitrus · 03/06/2009 18:53

From 3 months, about once a fortnight.
From 6 months started waking more often, 2-3 times every night. So much for the 'solids will help sleep' theory!

8 months - sleeping 8pm to round 7am 50% of the time, and then two weeks later another lousy cold and back to 3 wakings...

On the plus side, most nights he feeds and goes back to sleep in under 15 minutes. If only I could sleep so easily!

CarGirl · 03/06/2009 18:55

7 til 7ish

dd2 = 4 months
dd3 = 2 weeks
dd4 = 5 days

girlandboy · 03/06/2009 19:02

Dd - bf for 13 months, slept through at 18 months.

Ds - bf for 18 months, slept through at 3.5 years.

Nearly killed me. And probably why I look ancient.

HuffwardlyRudge · 03/06/2009 19:04

ds is 13 months old and breastfed. If you count a 5 hour stretch of sleep as 'sleeping through' he has done it about 5 times I think.

Dd was starting to sleep through at a bit over a year I think, though now she's three she doesn't always sleep through (not bf any more, but gets up for other reasons).

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 03/06/2009 19:05

Ds 4 months

Ds 13 months

Both bf and co-slept.

warthog · 03/06/2009 19:06

well i count sleeping 10pm - 7am a good night so:

dd1 - 6 weeks
dd2 - 4.5 weeks

a full 7 - 7 was at 3 months for both i think. but at 5 months went pear shaped again. and at 8 months.

TrinityRhino · 03/06/2009 19:07

dd1 about 2 years
dd2 about 2 and a half
dd3 she is 2.4 years, not slept through yet

MrsKitty · 03/06/2009 19:20

DS slept through (around 8pm - 5 or 6am) from approx 11 months I think, with the occasional night where he would wake & I would feed him.

It's all it bit of a blur, but I think he slept for stretches of 5-6 hours from around 12 weeks (although this was from 8pm - 1 or 2am so I would go to bed really early to ensure I got a bit of sleep before he woke, as after the first waking it would then be every 2 hours or so till 5-6am)

He is now 2.4 yrs and will usually sleep from 7:15pm - 8/8:30am which is blissful (although I'm a shift worker so have to regularly get up for work at 4:30am which is soooo unfair!) and DH often has to wake him up to take him to nursery!

It is hard, but it is not forever! ...DC2 on the way now so have lots more sleepless nights to look forward to!

spiggy · 03/06/2009 19:58

DS- 13 months. Went from waking (at least) every 2 hours to sleeping 7pm-8am in 1 week. Didn't do anything different it just happened. We took it in turns to co-sleep out of desperation and one night he just asked to go in his cot and that was it.

DD- slept 7-7 at 6 weeks until approx 12 weeks. At 5 months she is up 2 or 3 times a night but after DS I can cope with that!

Breizhette · 03/06/2009 20:59

DD 10 months
DS 9 months

Snarf02 · 04/06/2009 12:54

both exclusively bf dd at 8 wks and ds first slept through at 12 wks but then was very random til 10 months and from then on has been a fab sleeper. Mine until 1 would be awake til 9-10 often having lots of boob and then would sleep til 6/7. now they both sleep on a good night from 8-7

Notquitegrownup · 04/06/2009 12:59

Ds1 at 2.9 yrs

Ds2 doesn't yet at 5.5 yrs - though only wakes once now to sneak into my bed with me.

mondaymonday · 04/06/2009 13:02

I have no expectations of DS sleeping through until he's about 4

tbh at the minute he's waking once (12months) and I'm counting myself very very lucky. Until recently he was waking up to 5 times

I don't get this obsession with sleeping through for such young babies - tbh given that your first slept through so early was extremely lucky. Some people have it a lot harder for a very long time
