Do you think breastfeeding is tiring?

DS (10 weeks) had his 8 week checks today (bit late). He has gained weight from 7lb 14 at birth to 14lb 12 today - he is EBF.

Both HV and doctor commented that this was quite impressive on breastmilk only (esp as we've had problems with feeding) and queried that I hadn't done any top ups. They both said "you must be very tired".

Well...er...yes. I have a 10 week old and an active 2 year old. I've had 10 weeks of broken nights and very full on days. Of course I am KNACKERED!

So do they mean that BFing is tiring of itself - or just cos I am doing all the feeding? Obviously I treated myself to a large slice of cake to fuel the next phase of his growth!

I have never understood the "BFing is so tiring" line. Having a small baby is tiring, regardless of how you feed it. Plonking baby on boob and lying back has always struck me as less tiring than getting out of bed to make up bottles, but there we go.

oh Chandellina - i so remember all those nights! (not looking forward to them with DS2)

Have you tried the Elizabeth Pantley book - No Cry Sleep solution? I haven't read it myself but some friends gave me a few of the salient points and I did put them into practice - it seems to be very nice and quite gentle, and has some good tactics on how to put down a bf baby without tears.

As I say, I haven't read it so I am probably not the best person to talk about it, but if you're interested it might be worth posting a thread and getting some reviews. My friend is a devotee and says it's very non-prescriptive.

yes, my friend Maria here gave me that book! Have to admit i haven't looked at in some time, so it may be worth a shot.
