Dr Hilary jones has excelled himself this time suggesting that breastfeeding past 1yr is bad for babies.

cant do the whole link thing but this is the website address www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=28376&articleaction=sendformemail#message

apart from his ignorance of the health benefits, i cant get over the fact that he thinks that breastfeeding can confuse a baby sexually

have complained to GMTV and will take it further as am absolutly gobsmacked that this was allowed.

Other threads on this.
You're right.It's fucking scandalous.

NoBiggy · 15/02/2009 22:35

Says more about him than the breastfeeders tbh.

MiTochondrialEve · 15/02/2009 22:36

Eh?? Could he possibly be so idiotic?

nannyL · 15/02/2009 22:38

www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=28376&articleaction=sendformemail#message

amd too

that is outragouse

'after 1 a child maybe picked on'

has anyone ever met a 12 month old who shuns his 12 month old friend as he is breast fed?

absolutley outragouse

breast is best, and while a 5 year old may not need it it has to be better than something produced FOR CALFS, (or goats or whatever) which is the alternative

tankie · 15/02/2009 22:41

Indeed nannyL - can really see all the other kids at toddler group shunning "the breastfed one"

Useless fact - Dr Hilary Jones was my/my mum's doctor when I was a baby.

fledtoscotland · 15/02/2009 22:43

am waiting for the reply to my complaint to GMTV and their explanation why his comments disagree with current NHS advice

OP posts:
tankie · 15/02/2009 22:44

That bit about the child developing sexual feelings - I don't know any confused, still-breastfed 13 year olds.

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2009 22:44

I think he should be sacked.

EyeballsintheSky · 15/02/2009 22:44

Hilary Jones is a nobhead. I wouldn't believe the daylight from him. Unfortunately many people would. Irresponsible, ignorant twat.

"This act is more for the mother's comfort than the baby's. " And this is a problem becasue...?

" It can be to avoid renewing sexual relations with their partners" - Oh, Hilary, getting personal now...

"it's easier for some mothers to just give in to the child while other mothers prefer to pretend their grown up child is still a baby." - Oh great insight - keep up the psychology NVQ Hilary, you could get a pass!

"as children get a little older, they are forming sexual feelings so it's very bizarre to be then placing a child to the breast." - Hmm, been reading far too much of Dr Freud, methinks...

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2009 22:51

If I was married to DR Hilary I would want excuses to get out of sexual relations as well.

dizzydixies · 15/02/2009 22:53

ROFL Twinset - well said

I think even when he was supposed to be current 20 odd years ago he was still out of touch

time to hang up the stethoscope Hilary

fledtoscotland · 15/02/2009 22:56

Mitochondrialeve - thanks for making me LOL

Have emailed them. THis is completely shocking and certainly not evidence based. He is wrong to have made those comments ina professional capacity and wonder if the GMC have a cased to bear.

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2009 22:57

Could you paste the email address Awen and I will email as well.

Nice to see you Awen as well, have not seen you very much of late.

fledtoscotland · 15/02/2009 22:59

on the GMTV website there is a "contact us" button at the bottom - the link for the article is at the top. hopefully if enough of us complain, they will have to acknowledge us.

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 23:01

Hi twinset - i did the contact us link at the bottom. Been busy with ds2 (he's already 13 months!) and now busy ttc #3 How are you?

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2009 23:02

Am good thanks loving our new Dorset life and my new job

kikid · 15/02/2009 23:04

Have e-mailed them, such rubbish , how are we supposed to get the bf rates up, with this propaganda..

plonker · 15/02/2009 23:08

OMFG

Just read the article - what an utter knob!

The child getting picked on?? Having delayed independance?? Forming sexual feelings?? Surely he's not for real

As for breastfeeding being an excuse for a woman avoiding renewing sexual relations with a partner, yes, I can certainly see why Mrs Jones would find that necessary!!

The guy is a tit

twinsetandpearls · 15/02/2009 23:10

Have also emailed, am a bit tipsy so got dp to type the email

dizzydixies · 15/02/2009 23:11

Well i think he is breach of at least some of those if not all. And the must not bits he has done. He needs to be put before them. What a complete nob.
