a bit slow off the mark but am digusted by GMTVs comments on breastfeeding

Dr Hilary jones has excelled himself this time suggesting that breastfeeding past 1yr is bad for babies.

apart from his ignorance of the health benefits, i cant get over the fact that he thinks that breastfeeding can confuse a baby sexually

have complained to GMTV and will take it further as am absolutly gobsmacked that this was allowed.

Tch i have to fight my DP off and tell him to wait another two weeks till i can have coil fitted lol

He sees nothing wrong at all with 'sharing' for want of a better word, me with his baby.. his is a sexual interest, the babys' is getting fed.. two different bloody things.

I am doing the best thing for my DP's baby so if he doesn't like it, tough.

Have also emailed and complained. Absolutely outrageous irresponsibilty on GMTV's part, god knows how much damage that article has done, and carries on doing. Talk about crackpot theories, jeez.

GMTV is well covered by the formula companies - in fact I've a feeling that most of ITV's morning schedule is sponsored by Cow and Gate (I don't watch it - we only have CBeebies on ) so if you need a reason for "Dr" Hilary's comments it's right there.

Oh, and also he's a knobber.

have just spoken to the GMC and have been told to put the complaint in writing via their online form. they are taking it seriously

I just had a quick look at the GMC website, and he is registered with them, so should be abiding by their principles.

To be fair to GMTV, the link to the article started with the informed tosh of 'Dr Hilary' but was then followed by accurate information about extended bf-ing from WHO, NHS, Breastfeeding Network, LLL and NCT. So he looks like an idiot anyway.

I have emailed GMTV with my 'thoughts' on Dr Hilary.

blueshoes - i should imagine they have to do that, or they could get sued. The fact is that they put Dr Hilary's comments first, so you'd have to read down to get to the accurate information.

And let's not forget, that Dr Knobhead Jones is just saying what a lot of people think, that breastfeeding past is only for the mother, that it's sexual abuse, disgusting, perverse. The issue is that when he says it, it's confirming what a lot of people already think, and because he says it with the weight of his title of "Dr" behind him, it makes it a valid opinion.

If indeed he did say what i think he "inferred" that a mother gets sexual feelings from feeding her baby, that is a very dangerous statement to make.. i am sure some poor woman in america had her child removed from her care after admitting to feeling 'sexual' feelings and then had baby returned.. not sure where i read/heard this so don't quote me.
Terrible. No wonder the rates of BF are dropping, hardly any proper support, except it seems in 'deprived areas' where in my case i have found this to be true that they have BF support groups, i can't get to any as i don't have transport to get there (two buses @ that time in a morning with a baby? IMAGINE THAT) and DP needs the car to go to work. Hit problems with BF and you face a wall of practical silence (confused silence) as none of the health professionals i spoke to had anything to say apart from i must be 'doing it wrong' where actually thanks to this forum i found out DS was tongue tied..only after 3 weeks of horrendous pain
I would like to ask Dr fuckingHilaryJones if i was carrying on out of some perverted kick out of the pain i got every time DS fed?? Or out of love and something i knew was best for my baby?

And he is still a bell end.

I saw a BF vs FF "debate" on GMTV last week and it pissed me right off for several reasons. Why oh why do they need to pitch it like this, like it has to be a fight between women who do and women who don't.

The straw poll they did of people in the street showed that even people who had BF stopped at 6 months, and even the "pro-BF" guest they had into the studio was referred to as having BFd for "such a long time" - a week shy of 6 months ffs, not 25 years...

Stupid shitty programme, they ought to know better. I felt they really underplayed the benefits so as not to cause offence.

Please contact gmtv to complain!!
