Infant feeding through history. Fledgling (very atm!), but I'll add to it.

lol - no it was you Twwat who made it into a big deal

Hunker - how are you

AnarchyAunt · 27/10/2008 11:27

Can we just get back to business here?

I saw a silver nipple shield yesterday in the Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood. And a pewter 'feeding can', like a mini watering can. Wasn't pewter lead and tin mix?

Sycupatree · 27/10/2008 11:29

TWWAT - Hunker just happens to know an awful lot about this kind of thing, and regulars are aware of that, so if she puts her name in the thread title, we will click because we know that she often as interesting, useful bits of info. THAT'S ALL.

It's always worth a quick click around a person before making those kind of assumptions. If you had look up Hunkers other posts generally, you would have got a sense of her as a poster, what she's interested in and what she's very well informed about, and concluded, like the rest of us, that she was just doing a bit of public information service. So not self aggrandising - just a bit of good marketing for useful info.

PS Hunker this is sycamoretree using my rank halloween name.

CarminaBanana · 27/10/2008 11:33

ROFL @ TWWAT.
Methinks someone didn't think through a choice of username, or subsequent namechange?

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 27/10/2008 11:33

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 27/10/2008 11:34

That website about baby bottles is fascinating, I'm bookmarking it so I can have a proper look later.

Cadmum · 27/10/2008 11:34

The thing is that hunker isgreat. She is a mumsnet veteran and very well respected even by the longtime lurkers of the BandBF threads (like me).

She is also a human being who does an awful lot of work to keep people informed about BF issues...

I have a collection of truly terrible (but v. interesting) parentcraft info booklets [geek] and midwifery textbooks and so on....there is a great picture in one of them of a 'mother preparing to breastfeed'. You'd think she was about to handle nuclear waste. She is seated with a full-length rubber apron on, beside her is a trolley (hospital style) full of cotton wool swabs, cooled boiled water in a jug, and on the top of it, a large alarm clock so she doesn't feed for longer than her allotted x minutes. This dates from the mid-50s.

TheWomanWhoAteTraffic · 27/10/2008 11:37

I couldn't give a rabbits shit to be honest. Ooooh look it almost says twat, how hilarious.

CarminaBanana · 27/10/2008 11:38

I know, it is, isn't it?

RedOnHerBeheadedHead · 27/10/2008 11:38

tiktok, would love to see that pic!

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 27/10/2008 11:40

do none of you feed with a rubber apron on? I also wear those long gloves that come up to your elbows, and waders.

You can't be too careful with bm, it's lethal stuff

scorpio1 · 27/10/2008 11:41

goodness tiktok!

IlanaK · 27/10/2008 11:41

I have and read a wonderful book recently called "Dream Babies" which is a history of childcare advice from the 1700's to the modern day. It is full of fabulous pictures of quite amazing breastfeeding devices and methods. I am guessing most of the pictures are in the public domain. Well worth a read too!

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 27/10/2008 11:42

The 'nursing attachment' on this page is amazing! In a list of most pointless inventions that would win.

CharCharBaGOOOOOOORE · 27/10/2008 11:43

Oops, forgot link this page

scorpio1 · 27/10/2008 11:44

LOL at the caption on that poster!

idontbelieveit · 27/10/2008 11:45

Thanks for the info hunker.

idontbelieveit · 27/10/2008 11:47
