Obsessed I know! Getting pg while breastfeeding

Right
We've decided that we're not actually ttc but we're not trying not tc!
How on earth would I know if I did get pregnant? I'd like a bit more notice than 9 months later! Or even 8 weeks when I start throwing up?

watching this thread as i would like to know too!

Are you bf-ing often? I am, not nights though.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 19:32

It might be easier to answer when I'm not breastfeeding
While at work, and between 2am and 3am usually

How old is your DC?

Have you got your periods back yet?
If not then I think you will just jave to test every few weeks. Symptom spotting willd rive you mad, get you nowhere, and be very hard with the hormonal changes your body goes through when BFing.

awkwardquestion · 03/10/2008 19:34

one assumes then that your periods havent returned? mine returned within 8 weeks of giving birth despite exclusive breastfeeding and i got pregnant when dd1 was 12 months just as normal. how you know without periods is hard to say! monthyl pregnancy test?

scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 19:34

KellyMom has some stuff on it. I guess you just test every month or so? thats what i have been doing.

scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 19:35

dd is nearly 6 months.

Had a period at 8 weeks postnatal then spotting every month since.

ChirpyGirl · 03/10/2008 19:35

I did this with DD2, BF DD1 until she was 13 months, but got pg at 11 months, was only bfing once a day and mornings and nights by then. Only got periods back 2 months ago (so 3.6 years with no period!)
First sign was BFing started hurting again and DD1 started refusing feeds. Then feeling nauseous, but when I tested I was only 5 weeks gone so I think I was more aware of body 2nd time round IYSWIM.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 19:36

I suppose I knew that would be the answer but hoped not. Can't imagine what I thought it would be - "visit amipregnant.com and type in your weight and postcode"
Yes, no periods, DS 17 mo. Have been advised by an MNer to check EWCM (as you can tell, one of us is ttc slightly more than the other!). I know it's bad, but I like a glass of wine and would prefer not to if pg. Last time there were 2 weeks each month where I could drink happily.

Refuse feeds?!! I think he would rather cut off his own arm!

check webwomb.com for fertile signs

Do you hope to be pg and bf at same time?

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 19:38

That's the plan although obviously it's all a bit vague at the moment. You?

hopefully this will be dc4 for me, i love bf too much to give up!

DeJaVous · 03/10/2008 20:02

I got pregnant on the first two cycles of TTC DC2 (first one turned out just to be a chemical) and I felt it very quickly. I am BF but have periods, the thing is, both times I've had real symptoms very early. With DD I didn't really have any before 8 weeks ish.

My point being, I think you would know. If I hadn't been having periods I would have definitely ended up testing really early.

DeJaVous · 03/10/2008 20:05

Posted before I meant to!

A fertility microscope would be handy me thinks.

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 20:41

I will keep an eye out for symptoms

I'm pg and breastfeeding (DS is 23 months) and I must say I knew before I tested what the result would be. Not only was bfing a bit painful, I was knackered and looked 5 months pg at only 5 weeks! I had one of thw whizzy testa that can tell you when conception occurred, which is handy!

scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 21:22

when you say painful, do you mean really tender nipples? Did your tummy cramp?

llareggub · 03/10/2008 21:33

Not really painful. My nipples were sore, like they were when I first started. I did get some cramps, but in early pregnancy that is normal, isn't it?

DS likes to twiddle and that hurt, and when my norks were tender the tenderness did turn into pain sometimes. It's nothing you can't handle though, particularly bearing in mind the relative pain of childbirth!

scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 21:37

just wondering as the last 2 days both my nipples have been very tender and tummy cramping when she is feeding (yes cramps are normal in early pg ) and im not sure whether to test or whether im just coming up for a period! (1st time BFer)

DeJaVous · 03/10/2008 21:38

As far as breast related symptoms go I had hot itchy nipples after feeding about a week after conception. Feeding was fine but comfort sucking was the most intensely, erm, well, I suppose irritating is the best word, feeling.

Thankfully it's calmed down now, but it's still very early days yet...

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 21:50

ooh scorpio - test!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 21:52

oh don't push me, am serial tester when ttc

and then it will be neg and i will get all

scorpio1 · 03/10/2008 21:53

doesn't take much persuasion to make me test!!

StealthPolarBear · 03/10/2008 21:55

oh sorry
don't test, until you're being kicked!
