Have a look at this. Especially around 2 mins when Mel B makes an appearance

If you understand why this is a big blunder on their part and feel strongly enough to complain, then you can do so here

Ok I'm going to have one last bash at this.

This discussion is not really about breast feeding OR formula feeding per se.

It is about messages and symbols and paying attention to details than can be important.

It is about how some people do not have access to clean water and fuel.

It is about respect and understanding for others less fortunate than us.

It is about world poverty and exploitation of the poverty stricken.

It is not to do with how any of US fed our babies or how WE personaly feel about infant feeding for US in OUR nice safe world.

PuzzleRocks · 02/10/2008 13:10

Beachcomber will you please stop saying things better than I ever could!

Beachcomber · 02/10/2008 22:26

at PuzzleRocks. Am normally very quiet lurker type.

Why get so worked up over something that was obviously not intended to make a comment about breast feeding. Did you ever think that the bottle could be a symbol to make us think of babies not a pro formula statement.

wastingmyeducation · 08/10/2008 15:34

That's the point though, bottles=babies in our culture but my baby has never been near a bottle! The fact that it's a symbol of babies in our culture does support pro-formula arguments, as it normalizes it.

I love threads like this. Something totally irrelevant to BF or FF turned into a BF vs FF debate by FFers. I think some FFers need to get some help for the issues they clearly have after not being able to breastfeed their children.

weenawoo - you clearly haven't read the thread. It is indeed the use of the bottle to represent babies/motherhood that is inappropriate, at the very least. Nothing to do with being pro-formula.

This was explained several times on the thread.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/10/2008 00:01

This has been interesting.

I think that folk have perhaps struggled to grasp that this isnt about a lovely music video with a nasty evil bottle of formula in it.

It s a sound bite from OXFAM who are in the business of looking out for those who struggle to look out for themselves. And bottles for baby milk are in conflict with some of the work that OXFAM is doing in countries fighting poverty. So, yes, it was crass of them. It was not crass of Will.I.Am, or any of the lovely popstars. They are still very nice I'm sure. So is Oxfam. They should perhaps reconsider their P.R. people though

I coulnt care less if Mel B feeds her kids on pigs milk and sausage rolls.

I'm pmsl at....

childbirth is natural too. And statistically it is better for babies. "

TinkerBellesMum · 09/10/2008 01:02

VVVQV don't you know that any post about formula companies etc will end up with a BF/FF debate and name calling?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/10/2008 10:27

Really?????

TinkerBellesMum · 09/10/2008 10:28

I know, terrible isn't it!

rosbif · 09/10/2008 20:53

All so nasty, really sad. I would never come here for any BF of FF advice after this bitchfest

Beachcomber · 09/10/2008 21:02

What you on about rosbif?

This thread is absolutely NOT a support or advice thread.

It is not a thread about anybody's personal experience of infant feeding.

There are wider issues than how WE personally feel about feeding methods. This thread is a discussion of some of them.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 09/10/2008 21:03

I rather think that it's great folk care so much about the subject. Better than a superficial pat on the back and a "there there" IMVHO.

TinkerBellesMum · 09/10/2008 21:50

rosbif if you need advice then you will get a very supportive and helpful thread, whether that is about breast or bottle feeding. This topic was about something unrelated to how people feed their baby and sadly, like a lot of threads that are to do with marketing practices and such like, people have turned it into a BF v FF debate.
