found it quite upsetting at times. my bed was by the empties 'bottle bank', so saw how many people on the ward were bottle feeding. in the 4 days i was there, there were 10 women on the ward in total, and only myself and another lady was breastfeeding. The midwives offered help to everyone, but most decided on bottles.

the reason i found it upsetting was because i didnt want dd3 to have formula but that choice was basically taken away from me whilst she was SCBU and was given formula by tube.

That didn't make much sense - she breastfed my older sisters for about 6 months which was in the 1950s - there is a big age gap. Difficult to say if healthwise we are much differnet. My twin does get asthma and I get excema which our older sisters don't get.

I'm going on holiday tomorrow
so I'm saying my last word before I get on the plane!

  1. I agree breast is best
  2. I decided I didn't want to do it.
  3. I think all mothers who love their children are F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S
  4. I only took offence at the 'grannies should be silenced' comment but I'll get over it - other than that I hope my postings haven't been offensive.

Eulalia - my mother breastfed me - I bottlefed - dd did both

Bye bye - I'll be thinking of you bashing each other whilst I'm sunning myself (god willing - thats the sunning not the bashing!)

see you when I get back bet you can't wait!

miam · 02/03/2005 16:41

Have a great holiday Jools

flashingnose · 02/03/2005 16:44

This thread has made me realise that women will never run the world .

serenequeen · 02/03/2005 16:45

because men always agree on everything?

JoolsToo · 02/03/2005 16:45

thanks miam!

sparklymieow · 02/03/2005 16:46

DIE THREAD DIE!!!

flashingnose · 02/03/2005 16:48

No, because they don't get sidetracked into ripping each other to pieces.

Caligula · 02/03/2005 16:52

No, they start killing each other instead!

flashingnose · 02/03/2005 16:53

True . I just think this thread shows women at their worst, sadly.

whathashappenedhere · 02/03/2005 16:54

We've never had countless people die in wars before then......

flashingnose · 02/03/2005 16:59

Look, my point is that women could make a much better job of running things, but we'll never get the chance if we put all our energies into fighting each other over subjects where really we should be supporting one another.

What a horrible experience you had Expatinscotland - I really feel for you. I think breastfeeding/not breastfeeding was the least of your problems and I'm glad you recovered.
I do think breastfeeding is a good thing (for babies and for mothers), but in RL I never judge anyone for not doing so. I know lovely people who are great mothers for whom breastfeeding didn't work out - actually, I never really discuss it in RL so I don't know why people really made the choices they did. I also think a LOT of women don't make the choice not to breastfeed - they end up not doing it because they aren't given the right support, and feel sad about it afterwards, and those women do need more help. It can be really hard to find someone to help you in hospital, or to find a real expert who can spot what's gone wrong with a latch etc, and I think however your feed your baby you'd agree that people who want to breastfeed should be supported and helped as it can be tricky and emotional and painful when it starts to go wrong. I have had some tears with both ds and dd over breastfeeding.
I was also surprised by the number of women bottlefeeding from birth at my hospital - I'm NOT saying they are bad mothers or bad people, just that I was surprised, like Misdee was (I honestly though breastfeeding was more popular), and btw, she has always struck me on MN as someone who isn't in the least judgemental about others or unkind, and frankly, who has had such a sh*t time of it lately, that I hope she hasn't been upset by what's happened here.

misdee · 02/03/2005 17:05

i'm upset at the way the thread has gone. it was an interesting discussion about why breastfeeding uptake is low.

Aloha, how can you put together a post which makes such perfect sense when you have just had a baby? I'm impressed and in total agreement.

marthamoo · 02/03/2005 17:08

Misdee, don't be upset - it's not your fault it got out of hand.

spinelli · 02/03/2005 22:31

God...Moondog has to be a troll surely??
That a mother can be so unpleasant childish, pompous. horrible... I feel reall really sorry for any children that woman has.
Iam baffled by the attitude? Why why request a private room so as not to see bottles?
A very sad woman indeed.

misdee · 02/03/2005 22:32

moondog isnt a troll.

OP posts:
spinelli · 02/03/2005 22:33

Misdee, please don't be upset. Iam sure everyone knows your intentions where good. It is an interesting topic but the trolls can't keep away.

spinelli · 02/03/2005 22:34

Well if she isn't a troll i feel v sad that she is actually a fellow mother.

snafu · 02/03/2005 22:49

More personal insults. Excellent. Just what this thread needs.

Spinelli, I don't know much about moondog but I do know she isn't a troll. Just because a poster's views/attitudes do not chime with yours does not necessarily make them a troll. Just as being a mother does not necessarily make you a perfect, faultless, delightful-at-all-times human being. If this thread has to continue can we please have less of the 'You are a...' stuff and more of the 'I think....' stuff? Pretty please?

Caligula · 02/03/2005 23:07

Spinelli, I think Moondog's remarks contain a strong dose of irony.

marthamoo · 02/03/2005 23:42

Damnit, I thought I'd killed this thread.

moondog · 02/03/2005 23:45

Do you want me to come and liven things up?

JOKE by the way!! leglebegle and I have made our peace...

suzywong · 02/03/2005 23:51
