Tell me I am right and this is tosh - GP tells me I must drink at least 2 pints of milk a day to 'make milk'.

Complain complain complain...aside from the obvious lack of breastfeeding training I'm wondering how he actually qualified as a GP with such startlingly crap common sense....because of course all other mammals have their own cow on hand for use when they need to feed their young

Piffle · 10/04/2008 14:52

thats hysterical
I had massive oversupply with all 3 and my milk intake came solely from cups of tea and the odd rice pudding.

peanutbear · 10/04/2008 14:52

OMG it still shocks me just how clueless these GP's are

fletchaaarr · 10/04/2008 14:53

My MW 19.5 years ago said that I should have a pint of guiness each day while BF - now that I followed dutifully

RustyBear · 10/04/2008 14:56

That's what my MW said too fletchaaarr! (DS is 20)I only didn't because I can't stand the stuff - by the time DD came along 2 years later she had changed her mind & told me no alchohol at all!

Pannacotta · 10/04/2008 14:56

Tosh, but you know that by now

girlfrommars · 10/04/2008 14:57

Yup. And no chocolate before exercise or you'll produce this

Complete tosh!

You do however need at least 350g of cake, administered twice daily

I can't believe a GP would say that! Clearly hasn't clue. You especially need calcium while breastfeeding to protect yourself against any extra risk of osteoporosis (reduced density of bones that makes you more suseptible to fractures). But you can get calcium from any dairy product, and if you're a vegan or lactose intolerant, from a variety of other foods such as brocoli, almonds, oranges, figs...

morningpaper · 10/04/2008 15:01

maybe he meant beer?

claireybee · 10/04/2008 15:01

Rubbish.
But you do need to eat lots of chocolate.

jennifersofia · 10/04/2008 15:01

Wow - didn't expect such a quick response. But thanks ladies, now I don't have to worry about choking it down.. (Did just have some ice cream though just in case.

I may be wrong about this but I'm pretty sure that studies have shown that women who breastfeed are less likely to suffer from osteoporosis iirc...?

Need tiktok or someone knowledgeable to give chapter and verse but I am sure I read that although bone density decreases during bf your body more than makes up for it afterwards.

NoBiggy · 10/04/2008 15:08

Crap!

That's why black coffee comes out of my norks!

andiem · 10/04/2008 15:09

windygalestoday · 10/04/2008 15:09

i only popped on out of curiousity ....do you think he meant you need to drink wter???

MrsBadger · 10/04/2008 15:10

good articles re osteoporosis here and here (linked from Kellymom, obv )

kiskideesameanoldmother · 10/04/2008 15:11

I wonder what he drinks in order to make semen.

MrsBadger · 10/04/2008 15:11

or wee...

fletchaaarr · 10/04/2008 15:12

..or to spout such crap..

contentiouscat · 10/04/2008 15:12

You obviously need to ensure you drink enough fluids but I really dont think it needs to be limited to milk, juice or water is ok too.

2 pints of wine would obviously be inadvisable

chocolateshoes · 10/04/2008 15:13

its nonsense!

Bensonbluebird · 10/04/2008 15:17

What does he expect cows to drink in order for them to make enough milk to feed their calves and you?
