I want to give up BF

RGPargy · 07/04/2008 15:22

Hi all

DD is now almost 18 weeks and has been exclusively BF. But now i'm just feeling so tired and fed up and am sick to the back teeth of feeling embarrassed if i happen to be out and need to feed DD or if FIL happens to be round when i have to feed her, which results in him (and DP) going out the back or something until DD has finished feeding.

I'm just not enjoying it anymore because DD will whinge towards the end of feeding on Boob1, she whinges while i sit her up for a burp, and continues to whinge until i put her on Boob2. When she's had her fill of Boob2, she will again whinge and i have to stick a dummy in to placate her and finally when she's quiet she'll burp.

During the times DP has given her EBM, she wolfs it down and doesn't whinge in the slightest!!

Anyway, I know FF doesn't equal sleeping through, but i think i'm going to try DD on a bottle of formula tonight because she's feeding every 2 1/2 to 3 hours even at night and quite frankly i'm exhausted from it.

I've given her four months worth of the best, although i had planned to get to six months before putting my BF halo away and turning towards FF (easier for MIL for when i go back to work in 2 1/2 months).

Sorry for the ramble, i just need to sound off. I'm just feeling so fed up, especially as i dont feel that DD is enjoying being BF and i'm not particularly enjoying it either!

there have been times, sorry.

MamaMaiasaura · 10/04/2008 11:40

RGpargy on;ly just got to respond to thread as ds2 poorly (ear infections). Glad you are sticking with it, read the other posts too and can see how easy it is to blame bfing when baby is feeling fussy and that ff are also fussy too and probably nothing to do with bf/ff but just one of those things.

Re the BLW never realised it was straight onto finger foods, sorry to hijack but does anyone recommend a good book on it or a website?

mumof2pixies · 10/04/2008 14:49

There's no book on blw unfortunately (i believe one is on its way though!). This website is fab..
www.babyledweaning.co.uk/forum/
and
babyledweaning.blogware.com/
theres also some threads on mn too.
Couldnt recommend it more!
hth!

phlossie · 10/04/2008 14:53

Have a look in the 'weaning' section on this talk board. Aitch is the resident expert and she's the brain behind the 1st website that mumof2pixies posted...

Caz10 · 10/04/2008 15:49

Awen I was looking for a book too, fab if one is coming, do you know who by/when mumof2pixies?

mumof2pixies · 10/04/2008 16:43

I believe that Gill Rapley (goddess of all that is blw!! google her!) is writing one, but Im not sure when it'll be out, sorry!!

mumof2pixies · 10/04/2008 16:44

although there is a dvd I think...

RGPargy · 10/04/2008 21:26

Hi everyone!

DD has decided that actually, she'd like to be fed every 2 1/2 hours, thank-you-very-much. Her nice long naps have now become little cat naps and i'm finding it harder and harder to get anything done lol.

HOWEVER i was at my friend's house yesterday and we were having carrot & coriander soup. Anyway, DD was fussing so i dipped my little finger in the remnants of the soup and put it to her mouth. She very happily ate the morsel that one my finger (twice!). She also had a suck on a rusk which she seemed to enjoy too. After that, she went over 4 hours before wanting a feed again (she was asleep for most of this time too).

I wonder if it's worth trying to give her a 1/4 rusk or something daily........

It is only 'advised' that babies wait till 26 weeks before being introduced to solids...not all babies will fit that mould! BUT, she should still get most of her calories etc from your breastmilk (or formula!) so the food shouldnt be replacing anything at this stage in the game. But I wouldnt give her a rusk on a regular basis yet, carrot and corri soup sounds just perfect!

RGPargy · 10/04/2008 21:54

Why not rusk, but carrot & corri soup is ok? Is it the sugar content perhaps?

mumof2pixies · 10/04/2008 22:14

Just had a thought...babies go through a growth spurt at 4 months and want to feed more regularly which can sometimes be confused with them being ready to wean...just something to think about.

Regarding the rusks...I dont have a packet to check the contents, but I reckon there probably is some sugar in them...although I think that the Organix range do some rusks which are yummy, they sweeten everything with fruit juice instead of sugar. I just end up eating all these things myself! I remember when I was weaning ds on purees (hes 3 now), and I read on the packet of the rusk box that you could crumble it and mix it with milk to feed to the baby...but I remember thinking that was a bit odd as I always saw rusks as the equivalent to a biscuit iykwim...and as much as I love biscuits (and I do!) I wouldnt want them to replace a meal! Does that make sense?

RGPargy · 10/04/2008 22:29

I think i know what you mean lol. I do think she's probably on a growth spurt and i'm forever picking up babyfood and putting it down again a thousand times over in the shops. I did want to go down the BLW route but i'm probably going to play it by ear with her really. She did surprise me today tho - she actually grabbed for my cup of tea a few times! I know all babies start to grab at stuff but it just took me by surprise!

Def going to try and wait till ds2 6 months so able to go blw route. Thanks for link pixue, had a good look and seems to make lots of sense.

Having said i am not introducing solids till 6 months he did suck some of my watermelon Think he liked the texture and coldness, not doing it again tho till he is older.

RGPargy · 11/04/2008 22:01

lol Awen. Just you wait, next thing you'll be dipping your finger in something and trying it on him.....

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 11/04/2008 22:23

RGPargy · 11/04/2008 22:26

hi all just to say i watched that gill rapely dvd, got a loan from the mat unit - it's great but not a specific guide on how to do it. i am v lost and was hoping it would say 3x carrot sticks on day 1, that kind of thing! still worth a watch though, but quite vague.

RGPargy · 12/04/2008 11:53

I think the whole point is to play it by ear isn't it?

OP posts:
Caz10 · 12/04/2008 14:42

i know, i just don't trust my ears!!
(and am not a control freak, honest.... )

TinkerbellesMum · 12/04/2008 15:02

BLW book is due out in October. Gill is looking for photos and stories she could use in her book, she has posted on the Facebook group about it.

BTW, it sounds like you're experiencing a growth spurt.

mumof2pixies · 12/04/2008 19:45

Hi Tinkerbellesmum....I cant find the post you mention on the Facebook group...could you point me in the right direction? Cheers!

TinkerbellesMum · 12/04/2008 20:22
