ff = formula feed

bf = breast fed

WallOfSilence · 01/04/2008 22:01

d'oh.... ignore me... everyone else does

belstaff · 01/04/2008 22:02

even if ff was better for sleeping thru i still wouldnt stop bf-ing, i dont mind getting up in the night for a tiny percentage of my life, sleep is for losers anyway!!

god no

belstaff · 01/04/2008 22:11

only 8 wks, i know not to compare and that 8 wks is still soon to get into routines and that but i was just wondering if bottle feeding has that advantage

OP posts:
Umlellala · 01/04/2008 22:11

No, not at all.

Think getting up just the once at 3am to bf is pretty good tbh (assuming you are not talking about a teenager here )

tribpot · 01/04/2008 22:13

Not. At. All.

Don't even go there. Some babies are awake at nights, some aren't. My ds (ff) was still waking for a night feed at an age you don't even want to think about. Carry on as you are.

belstaff · 01/04/2008 22:13

also know of one person expressing breastmilk as the process of feeding thru a bottle makes baby sleep longer than direct from the tap

8 weeks!

Your friends are lying. They'll admit it in a year, or start saying 'well, obviously not when he's ill/teething/growth spurt/unsettled/etc'.

Jeez, my bottlefed darling still wakes up at least once a night and she is 23mths! (as do all her peers - if not every night)

grouphug · 01/04/2008 22:15

All babies are different. Don't worry what other people are doing. Night feeds are hard just make sure you sleep during the day when your baby does if you need to. When you are up at 3am just remember there are hundreds of other mums and dads up feeding their babies too.

Umlellala · 01/04/2008 22:15

(not for a night feed now but she didn't drop those til over a year)

izzybiz · 01/04/2008 22:17

Not ay all, I have ff both my children and Ds slept through at 5 weeks, and Dd, well she is nearly 4. Thats all I'm saying

bluenosesaint · 01/04/2008 22:18

Wall of Silence

Purely anecdotal i know, but ...

DD1 bf then ff from a few days old slept through at 6wks
DD2 bf then ff from a few days old slept through at 3wks
DD3 exclusively bf and still doesn't sleep through - she is 8.5 months.

One bf sounds good to me. My little pain in the arse treasure can feed 4/5 times a night!

Seona1973 · 01/04/2008 22:20

dd - formula fed - slept through at 5 1/2 months

ds - formula fed - slept through at 8 months

Its a myth that formula feeding makes babies sleep through - it is something they learn to do and it is not all to do with food.

tori32 · 01/04/2008 22:24

Until I had dd2 6days ago I would have said yes.
DD1 bf for 6wks because I got no sleep and couldn't cope without it, went onto formula and slept 7-7 with a dream feed at 2230 at 8wks.
DD2 is 6 days old and last night (having been bf since birth) slept from midnight and had to be woken to feed at 0730 because my boobs hurt

LooseyC · 01/04/2008 22:24

I know a few people who had (ff) babies sleeping from 11am to 7am from about 6 weeks (I know...) They can't all be lying!

But - my ff ds has just done a strange instant jump from 2/3am to 5/6am at 15weeks, no idea why - fingers crossed it stays that way though...

All my friends had perfect babies who slept through everynight. Mine was the only one who regularly woke up.....

They are 4 years old now and in Feb we went away for 5 nights together. When deciding who was sleeping where, friend one admitted "James goes to bed really late and wakes each night". Friend 2 said "Yes, Fiona is going through a stage right now where she wakes everynight and then gets up at 6am. Friends 3 and 4 also have children who wake. For all these years I thought I was the only one.

I'd be really surprised if all your friends children sleep through. I read once that 75% of all toddlers still wake at least once at night. Funny how EVERYONE that I meet is in the 25%.......

RGPargy · 01/04/2008 22:34

You are doing really well!! Keep it up!

DD (17 weeks) is BF and goes to bed between 8 and 9pm and then sleeps through until 3 or 4am, has a feed and then goes back again til about 7ish. I'm very happy with that!!
