vvv have you SEEN the threads she's talking about? she just makes this stuff up. there was one person who said something off on one thread and was firmly opposed by everyone else, i can't find the other one.

Descartes · 26/03/2008 00:55

oh you're being a nut, nancy. i ffed, once you've got the hang of making up the bottles what earthly advice do you need?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2008 00:57

There are plenty of threads concering bottlefeeding, choosing formula milks, sterilising equipment and making up bottles.

Threads involving b/feeding issues are far more involved, and, naturally more emotive. So they will undoubtedly receive more attention. Women trying to b/feed are often undermined by their partners, their families and from HCPs. Support for women trying to b/feed away from MN is so dire. Us folks try to make up for that on here.

It seems you are focusing on particular points and not seeing the whole picture.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 26/03/2008 00:59

I have descartes, dont worry

Nancy66 · 26/03/2008 01:01

Descartes - bit idealistic isn't it? couldn't I say that once you've put your boob in the kid's mouth what more do you need to know?

Descartes · 26/03/2008 01:03

not plenty, vvv, there are proportionately many fewer people seeking ffing advice than bfing. BECAUSE IT'S NOT THAT FREAKING DIFFICULT!

Descartes · 26/03/2008 01:06

no, you couldn't say that because it's not the same. you are actually being too ridiculous to bother with, tbh.

Maybe smallwhitecat.
but if I had a question on FF i wouldn't post it here - I'd post it on a less judgemental site.

for god's sake descartes I told you the bloody thread.

girlfrommars · 26/03/2008 01:29

People post about problems. If you look at the (sorry for the term) 'failure to thrive' threads about HV pushing for BF babies on lower % to be given formula top-ups, you'll see support given by FF mums whose babies were slow in weight gain.
If you look for threads on reflux, you'll find FF and BF mums on the same threads giving advice.
Frequency of night feeds, interfering MILs suggesting baby rice at 6 weeks, even sterilising bottles (as many BF mothers express milk) threads have mums who FF and those who BF posting on them.

There are even many threads comparing poos.

The common factor is respect. Most BF mums would not respond to a FF mum asking for help with a lecture. Most FF mums don't rush onto threads about bleeding nipples proffering bottles.
Threads about research/awareness are a totally different matter.

Descartes · 26/03/2008 01:31

i read that thread, to describe it as "a very hostile thread where a woman suggests that formula feeding women are a drain on public funds" is ridiculous. that woman's opinion was picked up on immediately and challenged persistently and forcefully. so one person is a twat on the bfing boards and the whole place is judgemental, that's pathetic and quite untrue.

Nancy66 · 26/03/2008 01:38

I thought lots of other posters in that thread were patronising and unhelpful too.

I'm not saying there aren't polite, informed and helpful people on here too. But, on the whole, I don't like this section of the forum and after tonight I won't be returning.

Descartes · 26/03/2008 01:40

g'byeeee

Nancy66 · 26/03/2008 01:45

ha ha - how appropriate that you feel pleased to have lost a poster. confirms my view really doesn't it?

Nancy66 · 26/03/2008 01:50

i agree girlfrommars it should be about respect.
look at Descartes responses to my postings:

bullshit

Yawn

you're a nut

....very respectful eh?

kiskideesameanoldmother · 26/03/2008 07:08

Nancy told me:
"Maybe you're not very bright, maybe you're not very well read or perhaps you are just incredibly annoying."

but now is annoyed at 'yawn", "bullshit" and 'you're a nut'.

lol lol

don't leave nancy, stick around and read. no need to post.

"The organisation you refer to object to the use of a polar bear in advertising as it's an 'idealised image' - hardly rational is it? "
I am an idealised image

kiskideesameanoldmother · 26/03/2008 08:39

relax, swc.

Walnutshell · 26/03/2008 09:49

Well I hope you do return, Nancy. We surely don't have to all agree on MN? (And don't)

MNers or visitors may read a thread like this which presents different views and on balance decide to try breastfeeding where previously they wouldn't. Great.
