what really irritates me about bf, is when people who know NOTHING give unsolicated advice

and yes i am talking about my mother again

My mum and MIL were both fab. My mum bf me fully for 6 months in 1972 and was considered a bit odd, so she was all for it. MIL had horrific memories as a young mum of being given pills to dry up her milk, and only having here eldest daughter brought to her in the hospital every 4 hours to be bottle fed, when she could hear her screeching in the nursery for at least 2 hours before that She bottle fed her 2 eldest and bf her 2 youngest as she was better educated and more sure of herself then.

My Dad was great, however even he manages to make a spectacularly stupid comment. They came to visit when baby was a week old and I was demand feeding cue the 'are you feeding her again?!!' query from him 'Yes Dad, its demand feeding'. His reponse: 'You need to be careful...there are a lot of obese children now you know..they were probably fed on demand.' We had a little chat about the science of bf and he soon got back in his box.
