Thread to discuss it. It's on ITV in about half an hour. As far as I can tell the 'yes'es are on 75%

StealthPolarBear · 30/01/2008 10:07

I emailed them yesterday and said how ridculous the question was. I said something like - would you have a poll asking - "do you agree with people having sex over the age of 60?" It's as daft as that.

Great that so many emailed - can't wait to see what happens now....

I agree the show is shite, I only watch 10 mins of it after the older kids have gone for school just to see how awful it is but flick between BBC1. However it will get a lot of viewers and I think it would have been good to have put across a positive message about breastfeeding which lets face it we NEVER hear about on TV. Lots of progs about pregnancy and birth, babies and badly behaved kids but not b/feeding.

verylittlecarrot · 30/01/2008 10:19

I suspect we've already achieved the best result we're likely to get. Damage avoidance.

I like to think that the programme makers realised the intensity of feeling and surprising support for bf because of the poll results and knew they couldn't run with a negative angle any more without looking stupid and risking the wrath of several parenting groups.

I don't expect they'll redo /rerun the piece.

But it is one in the eye for them.

I wonder if any of the journos on MN might pen a few words on the power of MN and other parenting sites vs the prejudice and banality of GMTV?

hunkermunker · 30/01/2008 10:22

Whole show sponsored by Nestle.

And the poll results wouldn't have fit with LK's twisted little cat bum mouth as she did her "Oh, we're all so NORMAL here at GMTV and this is a bit yuck, isn't it?" style of reporting.

They all look so peculiar, the GMTV lot. Makes my teeth itch, the whole prog. Far rather watch Milkshake!

verylittlecarrot · 30/01/2008 10:26

quite, hunker

course, psychic sue fondling a fossil, is the very picture of normality

but breastfeeding?

now that is extreme

I've also bfed on a water ride! DD2 was only 8mths at the time, though.

No, nothing scary happens with Youtube. I don't think I've had any emails from them. However if you are worried you can always set up a separate email address that you only use for registering for things like that.

Jackstini · 30/01/2008 13:37

Have emailed, fuming with them - I had bloody sky plussed it too!

FromGirders · 30/01/2008 13:53

Just for interest . .
One of the abm bfc's had responded to their request for a mum feeding a child over the age of two. Strangely, they never got back to her, perhaps because she mentioned in her e-mail and phone message that she was a bfc, and might answer back?

Artichokes · 30/01/2008 14:13

Hunker - what do you mean that the whole show was sponsored by Nestle? I know the weather is but has that extended to the whole programme.

People could always complain to Ofcom. Is a news magazine programme pulls a piece because it might upset its sponsors then that is a serious issue.

melpomene - what was on the youtube link? they seem to have pulled it...

hunkermunker · 30/01/2008 15:51

Artichokes, I rarely watch GMTV because I cannot bear any of the presenters, so yes, it may be it's just the weather and I thought it was the whole prog.

tiktok · 30/01/2008 15:59

Live magazine programmes on telly are always pulling items at the last minute....it would make perfect sense that this item started to look less like what they planned for it sometime yesterday evening when the poll votes started shooting up, and I would guess it was doomed from then on, not even last minute, in fact.

But this item was never suitable for the LK show - whoever came up with it must have been the work ex kid! LK is never controversial or argumentative - LK is not going to sit on the sofa and ask a feisty breastfeeding counsellor with an organisation behind her 'what do you say to people who suggest you are doing this for your own benefit?' or ''don't people say your child's too old for that?' . She more or less has to be on the mum's side, and that means taking a stand against the nutjobs who think there should be a legal age limit on bf...and taking a stand is not what LK is about.

Whilst it would be interesting to know if they did pull the segment because of unpredicted results, I think it was never a good idea to try to skew them in the first place.
Would you not be more interested in seeing what the public actually think?

hunkermunker · 30/01/2008 16:14

Well, the content too. But I get distracted by the weird plasticky faces of the oddballs who are spouting the crap and don't really hear what they're saying!
