Thread to discuss it. It's on ITV in about half an hour. As far as I can tell the 'yes'es are on 75%

I emailed asking why 'Extreme Breastfeeding' was dropped and asked about the poll too.

This was my rant which I emailed to them....
After taking the time to vote in your online poll on 'extreme breastfeeding'. I expected (as your website schedule stated) to be able to see the results of this on today's show.
I was disappointed to have watched the whole show and for the piece to not be featured.
Were the results of the poll not to the producers liking? Were they expecting an overwhelmingly negative vote? I suspect by the very title of the segment 'extreme' that this was the case. And why would any woman require to be "allowed" to breastfeed their child beyond the age of two?
In an age where breastfeeding mothers receive very little support from the professionals, I find it disgusting that a show which should be promoting such a positive thing, actually appears to be taking the stance that breastfeeding is for 'freaks' which I have no doubt is how women who breastfeed beyond the age of two would have been portrayed if the poll results had turned out as you'd hoped.
I shall expect my complaint to be considered very seriously and will not hesitate to take the matter further if a satisfactory resolution is not reached.

Ooooooh, as a so called "extreme" breast feeder, where do I e-mail to complain!!! What a bunch of T**rs!

VictorianSqualor · 30/01/2008 09:41

I emailed too, saying after I had voted in the 'extreme' (did you mean extended??) breastfeeding poll I watched the show this morning to see the results and the topic which didn't appear.
Asked them why, and if they were planning on rescheduling it.

Panyanpickle77 · 30/01/2008 09:41

ok missed out some *'s meant to say tossers!

StealthPolarBear · 30/01/2008 09:41

It's a pity that if it was reported to a newspaper or someone GMTV would just say they ahd to cut it from the show because of time schedules.

StealthPolarBear · 30/01/2008 09:45

whereas the psychic woman was an important public health issue

OP posts:
robinredbreast · 30/01/2008 09:46

who else can we complain to?

VictorianSqualor · 30/01/2008 09:48

I have no idea, someone who doesnt like GMTV

BabiesEverywhere · 30/01/2008 09:48

It would of took no effort to slap up the poll results in one of the many banners which run though the bottom of the screen thoughout that boring show.

StealthPolarBear · 30/01/2008 09:50

VS I thought that, but this is hardly cut throat journalism. Heads aren't going to roll from this cover up I don't think.
Would the DOH be interested in these subtle attempts to undermine bf?

OP posts:
BabiesEverywhere · 30/01/2008 09:51

I suppose the rival show would be Breakfast on BBC1 here

IndigoViolet · 30/01/2008 09:55

There is a certain irony in GMTV being stitched up by voting "irregularities".....

Which other polls can we influence?

BabiesEverywhere · 30/01/2008 09:57

Maybe we could push the unwanted result on every poll, until they quit doing them.

Rosylily · 30/01/2008 09:57

okay, I have jumped on the band wagon and sent a grumpy comment

hoppybird · 30/01/2008 09:57

Well that programme was a total waste of my time - glad I missed the obvious horrors of the first part due to doing the school run. Here's my email to GMTV:

I was eagerly awaiting 'Extreme Breastfeeding' on Lorraine Kelly's programme this morning, as promised in the schedule. I am currently bf my daughter and was wondering if your programme was about new and exciting, indeed 'extreme' ways of breastfeeding - would that be bf whilst snowboarding etc?

The feature wasn't shown, much to my disappointment.

However, I think in the interests of balance, fairness and current trends, the proposed feature should have included bottlefeeders, and have been called 'Extreme Baby-Feeding' as I'm sure you'll agree, a programme called 'Extreme Bottlefeeding' may have been seen as inflammatory and open to ridicule.

verylittlecarrot · 30/01/2008 09:59

nicely put, hoppy

Panyanpickle77 · 30/01/2008 10:02

OOOOOOH Here is mine!
Hi,
I recently voted in your "extreme" breastfeeding poll and am a little concerned by certain aspects of the poll. Firstly as a so called "extreme" breast feeder I would like to express my dismay at your use of the term "extreme". Surely using "extreme" places a negative connotation onto extended breastfeeding? I would expect GMTV to have used a more neutral term such as "extended", therefore allowing the individual to express their own opinion without having a pre-judged ideal. Secondly, I was very happy to see that voters had overwhelmingly voted "for" extended breastfeeding, and looked forward to watching the outcome on the show. Unfortunately you did not run piece, and my fear is that you did not receive the results you wanted. As an extended breast feeder (my son is 2.5) I would love to feel I have support for choosing such a wonderful thing. However, your choice of terminology alone has left me feeling like I am doing something wrong, when I know that I am not. GMTV is in an ideal position to promote and support breastfeeding, but my fear is that that extended breastfeeding does not conform to the GMTV ideal, and therefore will remain in the realms of the ?extreme?!
