SMA GOLD ON EASTENDERS?

Dalrymps · 03/01/2008 20:43

I probably don't know what i'm on about but i just flicked on to eastenders and during one scene there was a carton of SMA Gold on the surface in the background, it was the house of the one who has just had the baby with the ginger husband i think (not too sure cause i don't really watch it), anyway i think her baby in it is quite young...
Anyway, i was just wondering if this is allowed, i mean, isn't it like an indirect form of advertising formula for newborns? I'm not totally against formula or anything, I mix feed myself, I just think it seems like their advertising it when they shouldn't? Any thoughts on this?

It'll be on iPlayer.

SpacecadetOnADiet · 04/01/2008 00:04

its blatant advertising and its not on as far as Im concerned..tbh, the whole tanya giving birth thing amazed me..she stayed overnight in hospital and next day was dressed up to the nines having a welcome home baby party, then it was like she had never given birth, she was immaculately dressed with full make up in each episode
and on the subject of gok..ive breatfed 4 children and my boobs have not sagged.

VictorianSqualor · 04/01/2008 00:05

is iPlayer free? [ignoramus]

Monkeybird · 04/01/2008 00:06

I know HM, it's obv a vaguely applied principle these days but the baby milk one is a no brainer isn't it?

Is someone going to complain anyhow? I don't watch it so not really qualified to comment directly to 'em...

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/01/2008 00:06

Brown sugar?! lol

susiecutiemincepies · 04/01/2008 00:06

The pathetic and deliberate product placement in East Enders pisses me off at the best of times. This takes the biscuit, and was totally unnecessary.

I'm disappointed that the writers of EE have missed a brilliant opportunity, ONCE AGAIN, to have new mum breast feeding their baby. IMO it is br feeding that needs plenty of exposure, and advertising, not formula. regardless of the legality issues. Which they have clearly flouted.

I think we need to see more bill boards and bus stop shelters with posters of women feeding babies from their breasts. I for one would happily model for it.

I will definitely be writing to complain tothe relevant people and EE about this. I might also write to points of view whilst i'm at it.

haditfortheday · 04/01/2008 00:07

OK, for record I am personally not happy with this, but what if , as hubbie just suggested, it was props people setting scene, not knowing international law etc?

VictorianSqualor · 04/01/2008 00:08

I've complained to the peopel hunker said to.
iPLAYER IS FREE ON BBC.CO.UK.
yOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT CEREAL TANYA USES..........

Monkeybird · 04/01/2008 00:08

Must lobby Gok to do BF HTLGN special...?

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/01/2008 00:09

It maybe some poor junior, just started at the BBC, well chuffed with the role of props and thinking he/she is doing a good job and then when the complaints come in....hello dole office....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/01/2008 00:09

Hadit - its their job to know.

Then they have editors, etc.

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/01/2008 00:10

What cereal?? I must confess, saw a woman in the supermarket today with some sugary thing called cookie crunch and a hyper child in the trolley and I smirked....

VictorianSqualor · 04/01/2008 00:10

Cheerios

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/01/2008 00:11

Well, they might think they are doing a good job.....

I think a HTLGN on b/feeding would be AMAZING!

haditfortheday · 04/01/2008 00:13

VVV- I agree but as DH said, sadly, some people dont & may have just done it.

I didnt see it but am pretty peed off that again ff as been promoted, directly- indireclty.

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/01/2008 00:14

Victorian -

What faults will we find tmw night??!!

Dalrymps · 04/01/2008 00:15

normalisation of ff is all around, my dh just pointed out the fact that you get childrens dolls with bottles, surely this teaches from an early age that a bottle is the normal way to feed a baby?

HIFTD, every programme has a product placement sheet - they know exactly what is in each show, from branded trainers to alcohol on display to infant formula.

Actually, that's a good point - they have unbranded alcohol in EE (or made up brands) - why not formula?

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 04/01/2008 00:19

does anyone else feel like we are going round in circles? im starting to get a bit dizzy.

stripeymama · 04/01/2008 00:19

Oh yes and Dora the farking Explorer book about the new baby Mummy is having has the babies (was twins) sitting up and drinking from bottles (pink and blue, natch) when she first meets them

susiecutiemincepies · 04/01/2008 00:29

I guess the issue with dolls and bottles is that it would not be so easy to make a doll with a set of breasts to feed from... i mean they would have to make the baby doll with its mother in every package. Then you would have a very odd population of small girls ( or boys) pretending to look after their dollys, change their nappies and holding it onto the mummy doll and shoving plastic boobs into its mouth. Cant see it really working really...

I do of course get your point though just conjured up a very odd image in my mind.

As for Dora the Explorer, now that would not be so difficult to do in a book.

berolina · 04/01/2008 00:30

God, this is depressing. The bloody insidiousness of the formula companies. Different context, but thinking of a few incidents in hospital with ds2 and getting really quite depressed. Granted, a few things have happened since NY to put me in not the best frame of mind, but I'm beginning to find this really wearing.

stripeymama · 04/01/2008 00:32

Especially from a brand that markets itself as being 'educational'!
