8 8 at birth. 7 7- 5 days later, then 7 9 2 days later. Weighed today and she's down to 7 3.
Am bfeeding. I have low Haemaglobin- 8.4.
mw wants me to give her a couple of bottles of formula at night- i don't.
have started taking fenugreek and also bought liquid iron - even though I have milk I don't get the same 'fullness' i did with dd1.

baby is pooing- yellow poo but it's not a lot- she has several dirty nappies a day but they're just like a 'wet trump' iykwim.
Have been trying to feed her more often today as she tends to sleep a lot during the day and be awake and feeding at night so I have fed her at least every 2 hrs as per mw recommendation.

MW was surprised she'd lost weight, latch is fine, I can hear her glug the milk when she feeds, I have no pain.
dd1 used to sick excess milk up, baby doesn't.

if she's lost more weight on monday, should i top her up or not

Hope you get it sorted Pixie.
Don't be frightened into thinking formula is the only option.
(I still reckon you should drop in on Sharon Breward to see what she has to say about it.)

Pob lwc. Dal ati.

Hi,

I had similar problems, cant say if caused by the same thing (my LO was sleepy, slightly jaundiced and had a poor latch)birth weight 8.1 went down to 6.15 over 2 weeks.

I eneded up in hospital overnight with him for checks as they considered over 10% loss serious. However have subsequently found that this is not unusual in breastfed babies. Obviously medical things have to be ruled out tho.

I managed to give 30ml EBM at the end of each feed (every 3 hrs) for the next 2 weeks and he regained his birth weight by 4 weeks. Was completely shattered mind you.

I have met many mums who had similar experiences who used FF to top up and who ended up on FF full time as they felt they couldnt produce as much milk as their babies were taking by bottle.

good luck

hi there... just wanted to add some encouragement for you.... it took my ds 4 weeks to get back to his birth weight after losing loads. He went from the 50th centile at birth to below the 2nd. He's currently gaining well, he's now nearly at the 25th centile at 10 weeks and that's purely by bfing alone. I express every morning and give him at least 3oz of that ebm as a top up after the evening feed. It can be done, I hope you manage to stick with it. I do feel like super mum at the moment, and each appointment at the hv is a triumph!

Pixiefish · 19/11/2007 16:14

Been to see a Gp today and it seems she has a slight tongue tie so hopefully that is the cause of it and we can get it snipped asap

great to hear you have a possible solution. I hope it sorts out your feeding issues soon.

Pixiefish · 19/11/2007 17:02

thank you. The mw did check for tongue tie but didn't see it- probably cos it's not a serious one

I hear nothing but fabbo reports about her.

Report back please.

Pixiefish · 20/11/2007 07:37

lol moondog. i had an 'issue' where dd1 wasn't eexactly made welcome at a breastfeeding group i attended because she was 2 1/2 even though she was still bfed.
The groups were apparently for newborns!!!!! even though i had attended since dd1 was a newborn- but ho hum

moondog · 20/11/2007 08:23

You amaze me there!
Sut aeth pethau?
How did it go?

Pixiefish · 20/11/2007 09:59

waiting for her to ring me back Moondog.

My midwidfe just rang and she wants me to go in for a transfusion. Anyway she rang the ward and was told that the cut off was a Hb level of 8 and mine is 8.4 so it's too high by .4
