8 8 at birth. 7 7- 5 days later, then 7 9 2 days later. Weighed today and she's down to 7 3.
Am bfeeding. I have low Haemaglobin- 8.4.
mw wants me to give her a couple of bottles of formula at night- i don't.
have started taking fenugreek and also bought liquid iron - even though I have milk I don't get the same 'fullness' i did with dd1.

baby is pooing- yellow poo but it's not a lot- she has several dirty nappies a day but they're just like a 'wet trump' iykwim.
Have been trying to feed her more often today as she tends to sleep a lot during the day and be awake and feeding at night so I have fed her at least every 2 hrs as per mw recommendation.

MW was surprised she'd lost weight, latch is fine, I can hear her glug the milk when she feeds, I have no pain.
dd1 used to sick excess milk up, baby doesn't.

if she's lost more weight on monday, should i top her up or not

Fab moondog. She's reassessing us last week. Has shown me a better hold and I'm to try that for a week adn go back next Thursday.

She really is fabulous isn't she - I know I know but least said eh

Dd2 was 7 6 today so she's put on 3 1/2 oz in 3 days

Ah, brilliant. Dwi mor falch.
She is very very highly thought of. Has won big award from ABM.
Was it not necessary to snip the tongue tie then?

Pixiefish · 22/11/2007 21:25

I don't think so. SB thinks the hold will be enough. I can see a difference already. Plus she wanted me to up the fenugreek to 3 tablets 3 times a day

What is the hold out of interest?
Rugby ball?

Pixiefish · 23/11/2007 08:04

no, just holding her tighter, closer to me and hold her shoulder down and in.

just to update. Incase anyone comes to this thread for reference.
My dd2 still not gaining weight- my HB is still low.

We are using a feeding supplementer twice a day now. Not as bad as I thought but I can't express enough for it so am having to use formula. It's the last resort as she was still only putting an ounce or two a week on so we are very desperate that she startes gaining.
My milk is still not in properly so hopefully using the supplementer and the increased domperidone dosage will help.

I am so shocked that this has happened to me this time. I had a total abundance of milk with dd1 and I just can't understand what's gone wrong this time.

I have been very upset about it and very stressed that dd2 isn't putting on weight, then panicking and trying to feed her all the time which has probably added to our problems.

Becasue I'm using this supplememter twice a day now I am starting to relax a little and hopefully dd2 will gain some weight. I'm only giving her 30 and 40ml of formula, one in the morning and one in the evening but she put on 4 1/2 oz from Monday to Thursday. I really hope we're turning a corner now.

She's 6 weeks old now so this has been going on now for 4 weeks. I have been very close to giving up in the alst week as I fear for her health. I hope that te supplementer will help

pixiefish, thanks for the update, and that you are still struggling so much. It sounds like you have tried a lot of things - the people looking after you are presumably sure that the only thing amiss is lack of calories, is that right? I hope things get better.

Pixiefish · 14/12/2007 16:55

tiktok- the lactation consultant is at a loss as to what the problem is- she thinks it's my blood being low but the haematologist says tht this shouldn't make a difference but he has put me on folic acid to try and help.

i have seen 3 gp's with dd2 who all offered to admit her but they said they didn't think there was anything the matter with her- as it turned out she was putting a tiny bit of weight on so they said it was up to me. i am convinced it's me not her- my milk never did come in and now we are using the supplementer she is putting on weight.

We tested her urine incase she had a urine infection and that was clear.

she's got a 2mm tongue tie which she's having cut next week but the bfeed counsellor doesn't think that is making a difference but she's willing to cut it so that we can at least rule it out.

I am very lucky to have a bfeed expert who i totally trust and who i see once a week and have email and phone contact with inbetween- if i didn't have access to sharon i would have given up i think

pixie, I have come across severely anaemic women who struggled with supply and I am pretty sure there is literature about it. Did you have a pph? This, too, can make things difficult at first. For some women, a difficult start can be very difficult to overcome. I really hope things improve for you.
