BREASTFED DD IS ONE TODAY - DO I GET MY FREAK BADGE AUTOMATICALLY OR HAVE TO APPLY TO THE HV?

Well???? Also, now that I am a social outcast, is there an accepted uniform (and are lentils involved?)

So far today four people have asked when I am quitting nursing. Responses have included:

(1) That's a good question, since it's as natural as breathing, I agree to do so when you agree to quit your disgusting oxygen habit
(2) Well I'm guessing logistically it'll be difficult when she goes away to college so maybe then.
(3) Are you crazy women, look how tiny my arse is because of breastfeeding (to oversized FFing mummy)
(4) Oh I'm sorry, did you want some?

So I thought, best get the badge and uniform, save some people wasting their breath telling me how BF over one is 'a bit odd'.

roffle

love the responses

dooley1 · 20/10/2007 09:38

do you b/f in the day still?
Or are you advertising proudly that you are still b/feeding even though it's only morning and night and not in front of others iyswim so others wouldn't know unless you had the badge
it's no one's business what you do anyway

dooley1 · 20/10/2007 09:38

happy birthday to your lo by the way

dinny · 20/10/2007 09:40

whereabouts are you? UK? I never had an comments like that when feeding ds as an toddler, fortunately.

happy birthday to your dd

Rosyspookily · 20/10/2007 09:42

I took ds2 to Pakistan last year when he was 1 1/2 and I'd stopped feeding him at 10 months and my mil cursed at me constantly in punjabi for not feeding him myself!
It's our society that is odd.
I'm hoping to feed for a year and so now with ds3. May the force be with you!

blazingsandals · 20/10/2007 09:54

Oh gosh no, she feeds every four hours, particularly in public and knows how to work nursing clips!

Congratulations blazingsandals - and happy birthday little blaze!

Can you let me know where you get your freak badge as my DD turns one next month?

dooley1 · 20/10/2007 10:00

aw bless her
are you having a party?
is the house full of old rellies nodding wisely at each other forwning at you getting norks out over the b/day cake

MegaLegs · 20/10/2007 10:00

Good for you but prepare yourself for some flack for the oversized FFing mummy comment.

I BF my first three until I was PG with the next (on average about 14 months). DS2 was the hungriest and I often used to feed him during a toddler group seesion with a very split camp, the "tut and raise eyes brigade" and the "good for you lady, ladies."

screamsprout · 20/10/2007 10:08

B/fed ds will be 3 on Thursday. I sussed a while ago that it's not anyone's business what we do. As long as it is what works for him, that's fine. We just have one feed at bedtime now and will just see how we get on (I am 6m preg and he is not showing any signs of self weaning yet!!)

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 20/10/2007 10:09

You have to weave your own out of lentils.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 20/10/2007 10:10

"prepare yourself for some flack for the oversized FFing mummy comment"

Quite frankly, any one who comments on someone's feeding choice deserves what they get in return

Scotia · 20/10/2007 10:20

Asking a question (which is all I read in the op) is hardly the same as commenting on someone's feeding choices, is it? What's the big deal about answering the damn queation and possibly educating the queastioner? No, far better to put them down and give breast feeders a bad name.

Speaking as a lard-arsed bfer, I found her comment smarmy and offensive in the extreme.

Now, feel free to flame away.

Scotia · 20/10/2007 10:21

Sorry - question and questioner.

dooley1 · 20/10/2007 10:22

yes I suppoe it would be more diplomatic to say 'well did you know the WHO guidelines are for breast feeding until 2 years'

MegaLegs · 20/10/2007 10:24

16 posts in and it's away - doesn't take long does it?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 20/10/2007 10:31

lol.

i never got my badge.

i hated being asked 'when are you going to stop feeding her?'

KristinaM · 20/10/2007 10:37

I must be a very scary woman - because no one ( apart from DH) has ever DARED ask me when I'm going to stop BF DS2, who is 22 months. in fact recently i was chatting to a friend while feeding him and she thought i was feeding his older brother, who is 3 1/2.

i was asked a bit with teh others though 7 i also also favoured the " befroe he starts school i think " response

StrawberryMartini · 20/10/2007 10:43

at op. However I don't think bf helps you lose weight. I think it entirely depends on your own metabolism and what shape you were before you got pregnant. I expressed for a year (making enough milk for twins) and hardly lost any weight. You only have to look at FF celebrity moms to see that it's not that black and white.

StrawberryMartini · 20/10/2007 11:08

Flip I'm doing well at killing threads today. Managed three so far!

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 20/10/2007 15:19

"So far today four people have asked when I am quitting nursing."

Scotia, that is commenting on her feeding choice because the blatant implication is that she should no longer be feeding her baby. It's like asking an overweight person when they're going to stop eating so much. They may be questions but they are rude beyond belief, both containing blatant criticisms of the person they're aimed at.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 20/10/2007 15:20

FF celebrity mums generally have a personal trainer, strict diet and nothing much else to do

callmeovercautious · 20/10/2007 15:32

Welcome to the club! And happy birthday to your DD

I am now officially the last exclusive BFer in my Postnatal group of 13. What amazes me is how quickly people change their perceptions. 10m ago all but one of us was BFing and the others would all whisper about the evils of FF then one by one they all gave up and switched. Admittedly most went to 6m and a few to 12 m but now at 13/14m I am alone!

I am now obviously the odd one who is being whispered about! I couldn't care less how anyone feeds their Child it is there choice but why is it that the most natural choice is the wierd way all of a sudden?!!!

I want the badge BTW I am very proud of myself and DD, oh and I have lost wieght - but think it has more to do with eating healthily and not drinking as much wine as I used to. Combined with all the walking the pushchair for hour a day

jamila169 · 20/10/2007 15:38

Mmm I can see it now - a bright pink badge with a breast on it and the words 'yes I am' under it so you can just tap it every time someone asks 'the question'
don't worry about having to apply to the HV for one ,she'll have stamped 'nutter' across your notes after 6 months
