Minbie - do I believe the hype?

Since I bought a couple of different bottles on Amazon my Facebook has been popping up with adverts for Minbie left, right and centre (big brother is watching you!!). My dd3 is 5 weeks old and I'm not having any luck with tommee tippee or Dr Brown's (which dd1 and 2 took to petfectly). She is ebf but I need her to be happy taking a bottle of expressed milk. Is the minbie really some miracle for bottle refusing babies?

I've bought one 🙈.. I'll let you know 😂

smileygrapefruit · 18/08/2017 17:57

My sister in law has also bought one so we shall see! I've not tried DS yet.. I want him to have the odd bottle of ebm.. not convinced how realistic that is.. but I'd love a few hours continuous sleep! X

smileygrapefruit · 18/08/2017 21:02

With dc1 and 2 I managed no problem doing that. This little lady just wants mummy!! I'm self employed and need to get back to work asap. I'm not convinced about all the amazing reviews about this bottle though, need to hear it from 'real' people.

I bought a Minbie, my DD refused it. She now takes Avent bottles for water but still won't drink formula from a bottle. I think she just doesn't like the taste!

smileygrapefruit · 18/08/2017 21:25

Oh no Chuffing that is not what I was wanting to hear!!
Though have you tried expressed milk?

Well OP .... he took it!!!! First time!!!! And from me as well! I held him facing outwards & jigged him a bit & he downed 2oz!! After being such a dummy refuser I'm in shock!!

smileygrapefruit · 20/08/2017 08:28

Oh my god!! Amazing news!! Really pleased for you. Deffo going to order now!

You can tell it's exactly the same feeding action - their lips are in exact same position as BF. So now I feel I should give one once a day at really... to keep it up.. need to decide what time & when to pump!! X he has the xs teat by the way... no idea how much to put in one bottle either?!

OoohSmooch · 20/08/2017 09:32

One of my NCT friends bought the Minbie and her baby still refused a bottle. They're quite pricey too.

I started to EBF but my baby's tongue tie made it very painful so gave her a Mam bottle mainly because that was what we had and she took it straight away and then went back on the breast too. Apparently the silky and flat teet is good for that and you can buy them in boots and Mothercare. You also can sterilise them in the microwave as they completely come apart! No huge sterilising tub in the kitchen!

smileygrapefruit · 20/08/2017 10:01

I've just emailed Minbie to ask which teat would be best as I have an extremely fast letdown, less than 5 mins for a full feed and she doesn't have to work hard.. think that's why she's refusing bottles to be honest.

How old is your baby? Think they say between one month and 6 months they have around 25oz in 24 hours so divide by the number of feeds and that's how much to offer x

Screamer1 · 20/08/2017 10:05

My baby was a bottle refuser, started trying at 7 months and minbe was the only one she took. Was amazing.

Babybeesmama · 20/08/2017 10:19

He's 6 weeks & a bit of a chunk of the 75th centile.

His feeds are so irratic during the day still & he cluster feeds at night too.. I reckon 3oz to start with... & maybe see how that goes... hoping I can get 3oz.. best dig the medela pump out! X

smileygrapefruit · 20/08/2017 10:35

Great to hear, Screamer!

Baby, mine is 5 weeks and her feeds are totally all over although usually goes 2.5-3 hours during the day and sleeps a 4 hour chunk at night after up to 7 hours of cluster feeding!! I'm hoping getting a bottle down her will calm the clustering down but I can still pump 2oz once she's finished so think it's more a comfort thing... won't take a dummy though 🙁

Could be the 6 week growth spurt smiley... he was crazy cluster feeding last week but has slowed down this week. We've never had a 4 hour stretch tho 😭... I'd love one of those. He tends to settle anywhere from 8pm-10pm & wake between 11-12 then it's usually after 3 but after that he's unsettled & it's every 1.5-2 until 6-7am 😴.. the first stretch of sleep he does always seems to be the best. I think sometimes after 3am he wakes up with tummy ache & wind x

smileygrapefruit · 20/08/2017 15:14

Oh I wish I could put it down to a growth spurt but she's done it since day 2!! 6/7pm til midnight at the earliest! But then the last week she's been doing 12ish til 4am then through til 7.45/8am so can't really complain! It's such hard work isn't it but it really doesn't last long in the grand scheme of things 😊

Well I've ordered one. It's my last hope!!

AnaKristina · 21/08/2017 21:50

I think this kind of mechanism you can find in variflow teats like Lansinoh, Haberman- available in boots, I just ordered one but not received it yet.

Babybeesmama · 22/08/2017 10:11

Just wanted to update you OP - he's continued to take it every day! I just need to express more.. he took 2.5oz this morning & was screaming for more! X

smileygrapefruit · 22/08/2017 11:00

Thanks Baby, that's brilliant! Mine is coming today. Putting all my eggs in this basket now so praying it's going to work! She feeds amazingly through the day and for night feeds but the clustering didn't stop til 2am last night/this morning (started at 7pm) so desperate to try get a bottle down her on an evening!!

fannydaggerz · 22/08/2017 11:02

My son had bottles called breastflow, he refused everything else.

smileygrapefruit · 22/08/2017 16:33

Jury is out at the moment. She latched straight away but only took just under 1oz then started screaming for boob 😭

OP posts:
Screamer1 · 22/08/2017 17:20

Keep going with it! Just a hit st a time if you can!

smileygrapefruit · 22/08/2017 18:51

Thanks Screamer. Feeling a bit deflated tbh 🙁 Will keep trying.
