High chair hunt

I am researching for a high chair for DS who is starting solids next month. There are some great looking ones there but some are very expensive! We are also quite limited in space (small london flat) so was thinking perhaps getting a travel one that can be stored out of the way when not in use.

Has anybody tried the Combelle travel one?

And does anybody know if it is stocked anywhere where I can physically go and check it out? Smallable don't have a store in the UK I don't think....

Finally, would you get a travel one for permanent use? (Perhaps they are not as stable as the regular ones??)

What about a collapsible one? We have this one and it's on its third baby. It's excellent and easy to clean. And if you have to you can take the harness out and put it in the washing machine. You probably need to get an insert for it, though. I find it easy enough to use.

Ikea antilop - only costs about £16, super easy to clean (you can even stick it in the dishwasher) and the legs come off if you need to store/transport it.

I know of so many parents who bought expensive, all singing, all dancing, highchairs packed with features only to replace it with an antilop months later.

Another vote for IKEA one. However if you do t have an IKEA near you Asda have a very similar one in their baby event at the minute and I'm sure it was only £12.

I would look carefully at the position that the DC is in. I love our antilop as the DCs can sit properly straight (it comes with an inflatable cushion for slightly wobbily tiny babies) which helps them eat. Especially for BLW. But I've used others with 5 point harnesses which seem to force the DC into a slightly reclined position. Mine hated it and found it really hard to eat like that.

But think about cleaning it. Don't get things with curves and padding.

I agree with the antilop suggestion.

Once the legs are off it's really small. And no straps to get grubby.

I vote for the IKEA one. We had a pricy one but replaced it with the ikea one. DD prefers sitting in it and it is so much easier to clean.

We have an antilop at the GPs and a tripp trapp at home (second hand, £22!)

I've had three highchairs. One was over 20 times the cost of the ikea one. Not even close in terms of performance.

Oh wow landslide victory for the IKEA one! I have seen it and thought it looks ok but didn't expect such huge support for it. I will seriously consider it then.

Does it not matter that it doesn't have a footrest? I thought one would make it more comfortable for DS

The asda highchair, which is very similar looks wise to the Ikea one, has a foot rest. It's £12 in their baby event.

Ikea Antilop...
loved it, hated the £200 disaster from M&P.

I think I'm the only person that's not an Ikea fan. We have a small kitchen / diner and the legs stick out at an angle meaning we constantly tripped over it. Love our Tripp Trapp.

I dismissed the idea of getting the ikea one as thought I needed bells and whistles - but tried ones that reclined, folded, footrest etc at other places and they are a nightmare!! Ikea Antilop all the way!
The less extraneous bits the better as they will be climbed on and dirt lodged inside.

Antilop fan here! The inflatable inserts are great for keeping babies snug and easily washed!

Watch the Antilop if you're short on space - I think the legs stick out some way.

We have a Fisher Price space saver one which fastens onto a normal chair - I would really recommend this or something similar if you're short on space (we're also in a flat).

Ikea antilop fan here too. I had expensive 'pretty' high chairs when older 2 dc where young and they were a nightmare to clean (remember using toothbrushes to gouge out all the crap they dropped in between the cushions) and took up a lot of space really.
