Cheaper lanolin alternative to lansinoh

I have been breastfeeding my 7 day old dd successfully without issue. I think this is because after every feed I dry my nipples and apple lanolin. I have used an awful lot if the 40ml lansinoh tube I bought and at almost £10 a tube this will be expensive. I found this on amazon

I found Lansinoh to be unbeatable... so I can't recommend another, and I made a tube last forever.

IMO you don't need to use it every time you feed, especially a newborn because that's so often. Use it when you need it. The sore nipple stages come and go, and you may not have reached it yet or won't ever reach it, it might not be because you're applying Lansinoh every hour or so, you're just assuming it is.

Yep nothing can beat it I'm afraid- mine lasted 2+ months though and after that didn't need it...Christmas pressie?

Ask your GP to prescribe lansinoh. Then it is free. As far as I know this is still possible.

Yes I put a lot on. When I went out when she was 6 days old I wasn't applying it as well after each feed as I was in public. In the evening my nipples were harder and slightly crusted/tiny scab on one side.

I had the same thought and got DM to buy me two more tubes when DD was about a fortnight old and I was going through it at a ridiculous rate. Then something happened and I magically didn't need it any more- so I didn't finish the original tube. I have used it once since (lazy latching) but have been fine without it. I have passed my other tubes on now and still bf at 8 months. Fingers crossed you'll be the same.

I would say use it at every feed despite the cost, I think it helps the nipples toughen up.

If you warm the tube up (place it next to a hot drink etc) it comes out of the tube more easily and you use less as a result.
I have occasionally seen it on offer in Tesco.

I stopped using it at about 8 weeks, and have never needed it since. So I think just to get you through the early days it's worth the money.

Worth the money, I only managed to feed ds for a week, and am now using the rest of it on my lips at night, and around my sore nose (got a cold) it's doing wonders

I was the same as you at first - applied after every feed and got very sore if I didn't. Seemed to be going through it very quickly so bought a second tube at around a week. A few days later though nipples were a load better and never even opened the other tube it's still in it's box!!
I don't know of cheap alternatives if you do need more although boots have 12 points per £ at the moment which is the equivalent of 12% off.

On Amazon it's around £6.50 - I'm also ordering it on repeat! 3rd tube arrived yesterday, DD is 10 days old :-) I like to have a tube always to hand. I have a tube of mothercare lanolin cream from a friend and it's awful - completely solid at room temp. So if you forget to warm it it's unusable. I find lansinoh usable if cold if a bit difficult to apply. This motgercare stuff wont even come out of the bottle! I tuck the lansinoh tube under my bum when feeding and it's perfect temp for the end!

My DD is five weeks and I'm using it after every feed. I think it's great! The mother care stuff is hard to get out and weirdly sticky but does if you're on a budget. I think Lansinoh may be on offer in Boots ATM.

Hi there! Like you say my nips are suddenly ok!

I got some advice that it was best used sparingly - i.e. not to lather it on but just use in the cracks for it to be most effective (but I can't remember exactly why)
I do know if that's what helped or it was just time but suddenly my use of the product dropped and my nipples healed.
Also midwife gave out sachets of it - so wouldn't be surprised if like soontobesix says you could get it on prescription.

I thought that the tube wouldnt go far but it did.
wilkinsons own brand was pretty close to it I found.
