Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

Writerwannabe83 · 01/10/2014 21:07

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

Hi ladies I've been lurking for a while! Can i join you please? I have 2 DC, DD who is 3 and DS who is 6 weeks tomorrow. DD was a terrible sleeper and so I started following this thread to see if I could pick up any hints to stop FS going the same way! I spent DD's first 18 months in a permanent fog of sleep deprivation and am desperate to avoid this with DS. As he's so small I haven't bothered with routines etc just yet but will start trying to put one in place now that he's 6 weeks.

Cannotbelieveit · 20/10/2014 08:58

Hi lucid welcome! I have two boys one is 18 months and a really good 7-7 sleeper and one is 5.5 months and still going through the 4 month sleep "regression". We also have a secret Facebook group if you want to join Grin

bumpiesonamission · 20/10/2014 09:36

Aaaaahhhhh is there an almost 9mnths sleep regression? lo has forgotten how to sleep! aaaaaaaaaaaa

AuntieMaggie · 20/10/2014 12:12

I've been awake since 3amHmm when ds woke for his feed... He's currently having his second nap in his crib - the first was 30 mins this one has been an hour so far after taking an hour to settle! I'm not brave enough to try to sleep myself cos I get really upset when he wakes up before I've even slept like this morning!

squizita · 20/10/2014 13:30

Hi lucid! Smile

Auntie oh no. Yeah know what you mean about not knowing whether to nap. Can you nap in a chair or sofa near his cot? I move the sleepyhead close to me so I wake if she stirs so am properly awake before her.

DD skipped a wake overnight 3am. Annoyingly my full boobs woke me! She didn't seem starving in the morning.
Always worry with those posts where a lo isn't growing fast enough because they forget to feed and are sleepy as underfed. But on the other hand would like the 5 hr solid sleep 1am-6am!
She's asleep now after a feed at 11.30 or so. So once again I'm worrying she has become sleepy/weak.
haha! The rest of the time I'm like "why won't she sleep"!

squizita · 20/10/2014 13:31

...11.30 wasn't her 1st feed I hasten to add! Small feed 6am, big one 8.30 am and another snack at 10am!

cookielove · 20/10/2014 18:52

squit I love how you say snack like she is having a pack of crisps :)

AuntieMaggie · 20/10/2014 20:27

It's lovely isn't it :)

squizita · 20/10/2014 20:47

Lol she's a foodie already. Stared intently at DH eating Chinese with chopsticks just now!
My blocked nipple is very glad of her ability to grab a tasty snack. Staggered feeds with compressing/hot water bottle. She was happy to oblige!

cookielove · 21/10/2014 02:35

Oh good :)

AuntieMaggie · 21/10/2014 03:19

ha ha ds does that and sometimes he does a chewing type motion with his mouth and today he thought me eating a rice cake was funny... Normally he decides he wants picking up as soon as he sees me eating though Hmm

Sammyviv · 21/10/2014 07:15

Welcome lucid
I too have a 6 week old
Apparently this is the magic time where things change so I'm looking forward to this!!!!!!
What kinda routine are you going for? I need to start one too

squizita · 21/10/2014 09:40

Suzy just threw up an entire tummy full of milk. Not like her at all.

Doesn't seem ill otherwise!!

Called Dr, going in to give her a look over at 11.

I think tummy bugs in bf babies are rare. However my in laws have a stomach condition which is picked up in infancy. It needs a small keyhole op. Hope its not that! Confused

Redling · 21/10/2014 10:34

Nat does mega voms once a week or so and never throws up usually, but it seems to be that he forgets how much he can eat and his stomach just throws up the excess, as it always seems to come when he's been a greedy guts! I hope that's it and nothing more serious!

Redling · 21/10/2014 10:36

Also I find there is no 'not like him at all' when it comes to DS, as at that age they change so much from say to day, as much as you want to be able to predict how they 'normally' act it's impossible! Nat changed so much at 1 month old, and I think your DD is that old?

squizita · 21/10/2014 12:55

Just got back from the Dr who palpated her tummy, checked her temperature and alertness. He thinks its a bit of reflux or she gulped some air with her feed. Told me to keep an eye on her feeding and weight but we only need to return if it gets worse or she loses weight, said she seemed completely healthy.

OliviaRinHerts · 21/10/2014 14:10

Squizita - good to hear nothing is wrong but best to be sure.

Redling - been meaning to say, in response to your previous post, how amazing is it that our boys are exactly the same age (born 18 august right?). What a coincidence!?

AuntieMaggie · 21/10/2014 20:28

squitza glad your dd is ok - ds has had a couple of those episodes but as he was ok otherwise and didn't seem bothered by it I just mentioned it to the hv/gp next time I saw them who said it was probably just wind/reflux

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 21/10/2014 21:08

Squiz, if she had a few feeds this morning it could have been trapped wind and movement t can bring a lot of milk up. They have very weak muscles so the one that keeps food in the tummy doesn't work well at this age. Plus, even a little vom can look like a lot! Glad she seems ok now. Ds1 was a puker, scared me silly as my dbro had a serious health issue which I worried dd could have (vomiting was a major symptom).

Redling · 21/10/2014 22:25

Olivia I know, crazy that two people with the same birth date babies cropped up on the thread! He was born at 1.45pm :)

squizita · 22/10/2014 00:27

Dd pooped herself awake and screamed a little while ago. FX changed and fed she will settle now.

AuntieMaggie · 22/10/2014 03:04

ugh second feed here :( the last few nights have not been good

I've posted this on another thread but I think i need to wind ds more - I find he burps ok initially on his own after a feed and he doesn't seem too uncomfortable with wind but he always seems to have plenty of bottom wind and I wonder if he'd sleep better if I could get more of it out but I don't know how - he hates being face down or on my shoulder now and at 16 weeks he's either trying to climb me or launch himself away from me!

squizita · 22/10/2014 03:49

Auntie same here re wind. Just waiting for dd to settle after another feed/poo. This time she fed then the milk prompted a poo. Bit nervous as she was sick after a feed, change etc but burp ed her and all seems well at the moment. FX.
