Night Feeders Part 5. Calling all women who find themselves feeding when they'd rather be sleeping!!

This is a thread for anyone who wants support when things seem tough - especially for the women whose babies don't like sleep!!

We'll do the usual introductions:

I'm a first time mom to my 6 month old, EBF son. It's been a rocky few months, lots of ups and downs but we've finally reached a point where he's asleep by 7.30pm and only waking once during the night.

He very rarely naps in the day - and when he does it's only when he's in the car or his pushchair. It's very frustrating!!

And the last little thing about us is that we have just started the weaning journey - it's fun but messy!!

Hi all

Feeling very tired and fed up today. DD (6m exactly) is still waking loads in the night, last night she went down at 7.15pm and was awake from 8.45-9.15 (unusual for her to wake so early and was very unsettled - ended up giving Nurofen and feeding to relax her back to sleep) then 12, 2.30, 5 and then up for the day at 7.45. I was getting more sleep when she was 2-3 months old Confused I really thought she would be going for longer stretches again by now... I know her teeth are playing a part, but she shouldn't need feeding so much in the night now, surely??
She has also hardly napped today which is most unusual, she usually has at least one long cot nap and a couple of 40min naps.

On another note, we have started to give some solids now in the form of Baby Led Weaning, so she has had breadsticks, chunks of cheese, cucumber sticks, pear, banana and yoghurt so far, all self-fed. Don't think much is being swallowed yet, but it's so much fun, she goes mad for food when she sees me or DH eating Grin

She went to bed later than usual tonight (8pm) as we went out for dinner, so am hoping she won't wake until midnight...

DD2 (Clara) 6 months today.

You have my sympathy Curly - I feel like I got more sleep when Arron was 3-4 months than I do now (he's almost 7 months). He goes to bed about 7.30pm and will have a minimum of two wakes up before he actually wakes up for the day.

I agree with how much fun weaning is - BLW is messy but they are SO cute to watch!!

Curly not as many wake ups here but I was getting more sleep when he was newborn-4 months (he slept 10-11 no wake ups or feeds from 2-4 months). It's worse now but I try to reason that he has so many things going on developmentally at the moment.

Hunter 18 months
Ryder 5.5 months

Writer - that sounds tough, but also as though you're doing the right thing. Will be following with interest as we're starting doing bed-times in the cot in the next week or so (finally time to kick the co-sleeping habit). DD is a dreadful sleeper but to be fair to her she has always been able to self settle. DS is the opposite - once he's asleep he's brilliant but if I try and do anything except breastfeed him to sleep he will go bananas! In some ways I'm happy with that but I'd really like DH to be able to put him down sometimes.

Curly - sorry to hear you're suffering. Unfortunately, in my experience sleep doesn't seem to steadily improve - it's more like it's constantly just peaks and troughs. Hopefully this is just a phase your LO will pass through (as quickly as possible!) Will you be able to get a lie in over the weekend at all?

I'd be up for a Facebook group... My DCs have names that'd make it quite obvious who I am and because I work with young people I am a bit cautious on public forums (not that the young people I work with would be remotely interested in how my kids sleep - I just wouldn't want them to discover me being controversial on the AIBU boards Wink)

DD - 2.11yo
DS - 6.5mo

Cariad007 · 18/10/2014 01:36

Gah, I'm not able to send PMs for some reason! Is it possible to make the group closed rather than secret, just briefly and PM me the link so I can join?

TeamEponine · 18/10/2014 02:53

Having a tough night as baby is really struggling to poop. She hasn't done a decent one today and has been trying and straining since about 8pm. We've done lots of tummy massage, but is there anything else I can do to help her? She's 4 weeks. Thanks!

cookielove · 18/10/2014 03:17

team ds has issues pooping and a friend recommend 1 oz prune juice 2 oz water. Says it kicks start things. I have yet to try it, as I was trying colief - x2 projectile vomit and comfort formula - x1 projectile vomit.

The last projectile vomit was 40 mins ago, I am in for a long night!

Sammyviv · 18/10/2014 03:40

Cariad are you on the fb group now?

Im up for first feed...and now he's snoring bless him but if I put him back in the Moses basket I bet he will wake up

mrsmugoo · 18/10/2014 04:04

Just put him down after his feed here - annoyingly early! I'm predicting he'll be awake and wanting to party by 6:30am :(

mrsmugoo · 18/10/2014 04:05

Can't wait to get into the FB group!

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 18/10/2014 04:38

Team - has she managed anything yet? I've always found a warm bath helps them. Lots of nappy free time (must be the fresh air!) what about a bath then lay her on an open nappy and cycle her legs a bit?
