Here's a fresh thread!

Let's start by introducing us/babies again Grin

He doesn't take a bottle and bring at the breast is the only thing that comforts him. I think teething may be playing a part as he's constantly got his fist in his mouth, chewing his fingers, drooling and grinding his gums. I've tried teething gels, teething powders, Ambusol and Nurofen but nothing is making any difference. It's probably not helping that he's refusing to nap in the day again. Why does all this have to happen now - I'm stressed enough about the job without having to deal with this too Sad

Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 11:56

Yes he is mrsmugoo - which has definitely improved him from what he was Confused I just don't know how to tackle it really, I feel like I'm completely clueless again. This time last week I was so happy with how much his bed time has improved (8-8 with one wake up) and now everything has gone wrong again Sad

KateTheShrew · 25/09/2014 11:58

writer, you have my total sympathy Flowers

When is the interview? I think you should do it if you possibly can. It's amazing what you can achieve if you have to, even when you're exhausted adrenalin/nerves may actually help a bit! For a long time I was putting things off because of DS's poor sleep, and then I realized that if I kept doing that I'd never do anything! You don't know what your situation will be sleep-wise when the job starts and it would be such a shame to miss our when it might be better by then you've put do much work in already. It feels endless now, but he will sleep eventually and so will you.

Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 12:02

Interview is Monday morning. My maths/drug exam is at 10am and then if I pass it my interview is at 12.30pm.

sue infacol works by joining up the small air bubbles so they're easier to get rid of (fennel tea works in the same way as I believe it has one of the main ingredients) so works well to get babies to burp. Gripe water kind of dissolves the wind so the burps/facts are smaller and sometimes you can hear the wind popping in their bellies.

I used infacol up until about 2/3 weeks ago (ds is 13 weeks tomorrow) and gripe water on the odd occasion. Infacol helped ds burp initially but he is now easier to burp without it and I found that he would sometimes end up with big painful bouts of bottom wind so I would end up using gripe water on those occasions. Now I just use gripe water as and when and find it better for bottom wind. HV said that infacol helps them get used to bringing up wind but they can get used to it and it can become less effective.

So it depends what you think the problem is. Early evening is notoriously the worst time for babies as it approaches bedtime.

writer I wish I had some magic advice for you but I don't :( I hope things get easier for you soon - could you try getting him to take a bottle in the day when it's less stressful so if he does eventually take it you can give him it at night?

Cannotbelieveit · 25/09/2014 12:43

Writer how is DS going to feed or will you be back before he needs another feed?

OP posts:
KateTheShrew · 25/09/2014 14:29

writer would your DH be able to take care of your DS over the weekend (bar the feeding of course) so you can rest and prepare for Monday?

Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 14:57

My DH isn't here on Saturday but my sister has said she will mind DS for me for a few hours so I can get some head space.

The interview day is going to be a big of a faff with DS. I have a friend who lives near me who is going to take me to my interview, I will feed DS just before we leave. She is going to drop me off at the hospital and then she and DS are going to the house of a mutual friend who lives near the hospital. Once I have finished my exam my friend is going to come and pick me up and take me to out mutual friends house so I can have some lunch and feed DS. My friend will then drive me back to the hospital for my interview and whilst I'm in there she will walk DS around the hospital grounds to try and get him to sleep. Once the interview is over we will all go home Angry

Cannotbelieveit · 25/09/2014 15:07

That's great that your friends are helping out writer. Really will be thinking positive thoughts for you!

Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 15:34

Thanks Cannot - I'm probably worrying about it far too much.

I'm currently stressed about trying to get DS to take a nap. He's only slept for 25 minutes in the last five hours Sad

Cariad007 · 25/09/2014 15:41

Good luck for the interview Writer, hope it goes well and tat your DS decides to have a decent nights sleep the night before!

DS has been his usual mix of smiles and grumpiness today. He didn't have a morning nap but fell asleep on the way home from music class. Naturally he woke up,about five minutes from home! He's now playing and I'll try and get him down for a nap again in a bit.

He's changed something about the way he feeds and my nipples feel really sore when he latches on and starts to suck. He's als started turning his head and clamping his gums down to them which is agony but I can't do much except take him off the breast and say a stern no. Anyone else had this problem?

Cannotbelieveit · 25/09/2014 19:14

Only 2x 40 min naps today Hmm

Been feeding him since 7, hoping he will be asleep by 8

Evening ladies,
Just wanted to say thank you for the tips. I have been and bought some infracol and will try that.
I find this thread really helpful.
Here's hoping we all get some sleep tonight

Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 19:24

Bedtime feed is currently taking place. Let the nightmare commence....

Cannotbelieveit · 25/09/2014 19:51

DS has been asleep for 25 mins already!!

OP posts:
Sammyviv · 25/09/2014 19:58

Hmm DPs gone out to play football so just me and the boy. He slept loads today, just hoping he doesn't fall asleep too early now or he will be up by 12.
Can breast fed babies still need to use gripe water or infacol? And when would I know to start using it? I know he gets wind now and it annoys him and wakes him up...

KateTheShrew · 25/09/2014 20:14

For the second night in a row, DS has fallen asleep in his cot being shushed and patted by DH instead of feeding to sleep!! Could this possibly be the beginning of self-settling? Do I dare to dream? I expect he'll be screaming in under an hour but even if he is this still counts as progress, right?

Sammyviv · 25/09/2014 20:16

Absolutely Kate! Anything counts as progress if it's working. I dont want to wish my days away but I look forward to some more sleep and self settling

notadoctor · 25/09/2014 20:27

That's fantastic news, Kate! No sign of self settling here yet but am hopeful that it'll happen in the next few months.

DS has been going great guns on his solid food today - we're doing BLW and cheesy mashed potato was a definite hit! He's barely napped but been in good spirits despite it and is fast asleep now.

KateTheShrew · 25/09/2014 20:33

Thanks for the encouragement Smile still quiet up there and it's been... a whole 30 minutes

Great news about the solids, nota. In our house anything cheesy is usually a hit Grin

Cannotbelieveit · 25/09/2014 20:36

Great news Kate!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 25/09/2014 20:44

Two failed attempts to put him in his cot. He wakes up in less than 60 seconds and the crying and wailing starts. He's now asleep next to me in my bed - I'm predicting he's awake again within the hour...

Sammyviv · 25/09/2014 20:48

Aww writer anything for a quiet life hey. I'm debating putting DS down, he's asleep on my lap but I know the moment he hits the Moses basket he will wake up

Cariad007 · 25/09/2014 21:05

Sammyviv, yes breastfeeding babies can take infacol to gripe water. I preferred infacol as gripe water seemed to make things worse. You just have to remember to give it before every feed.
