Part 3!

Quick recap - DS, 17 weeks, EBF (stubborn little bottle refuser), crap sleeper! Super knackered Mummy, surviving on 1-2 hour sleeps :(

So I am hoping for a better night tonight seeing as bedtime went smoothly. Last night was hideous and I've eaten a twirl, a bounty and a salted caramel brownie today just to get through the day!

He woke at 6:40 this morning and wouldn't resettle even with a feed so I am currently lolling around still in bed with him squirming about next to me (rule is we don't "getup" before 7:30) and wondering if we an just lay here another hour until he'll need to nap.

I really can't be bothered with today! Why is it I feel the tiredest when I've had a half decent sleep?

I always feel shattered too mrsmugoo when I've had a good nights sleep! it's insane isn't it? [ grin] Glad you had no gymnastic problems to deal with!! And I like your 07.30am rule!!

Dad went his usual 6 hours and then 3 another hours after his feed.

I've just fed him again and he was practically falling asleep on me do I've put him in back in his cot. He's stirred a little and I can hear him blowing bubbles so if he's still awake in 20 minutes I think we'll get ourselves up for the day too Smile

mrsmugoo · 28/07/2014 07:53

The answer to my question of can I stay in bed for another hour was no. Pooey leaky nappy.

I don't think the 7:30 rule does much now but in the future when we've got a hyperactive toddler wanting to get up and play at 5, hopefully the not til 7:30 rule will have some weight? (wishful thinking)

DS was up around 7ish and demanding boob but then slept til after 9 so I can't complain really. Going to take him to the doc to get that BCG mark checkd out today.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/07/2014 12:25

My DS didn't go back to sleep either mrsmugoo so we just got up. He's had 2 naps already this morning though so definite progress!

Good luck at the doctors cariad Smile

mrsmugoo · 28/07/2014 12:29

The only thing about an early wake up is having to try to fit 4 sleeps in otherwise it will be too long between end of 3rd nap and bedtime. Either that or he'll need to pull an extra long nap out of the bag.

He's on second sleep now and woke up after less than half an hour but I was able to sit with him while he resettled so I'm hoping he will sleep longer now.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/07/2014 12:36

Both of my DS's naps were as a result of being in his pram - I'm still not convinced I could get him to randomly sleep in the day whilst at home, unless he's fed possibly, his first nap was for an hour and his second one was for 25 minutes. So not too long but at least I know he's getting some rest, I feel much better about it all after you said they just need a short rejuvenation period, it means I'm no longer stressing about him having ultra long naps. Knowing that 20-30 minutes is sufficient has taken all the worry and pressure off me.

mrsmugoo · 28/07/2014 13:57

I also used to think I'd never get him to sleep in the day without feeding to sleep or rocking etc...

It's only been recently (literally the last two weeks) where I've been able to put him down in his cot for a nap without feeding first. He just seems to get drowsy now as soon as he's in the dark room in his grobag - it's like it's finally clicked in his brain what sleep actually is!

Well DS has made up for a weekend of no poop by going 4 times today, culminating in a poonami so epic that it went all the way up his back and I ended up have to use scissors to cut the vest suit off him! Fortunately it was only one of the 3 for £2.50 ones from Primark. And even more fortunately DP had arrived home from work so I didn't have to do the bulk of the clean up operation!!!

Writerwannabe83 · 28/07/2014 21:59

Sounds lovely cariad Grin Was your DS's BCG ok?

My DS has been fed and is now in his cot. I can't see what he's up to because of his bumpers but I can hear lots of shuffling and wriggling noises. At least he isn't crying Smile

Cariad007 · 28/07/2014 22:28

Waiting time at the doc was nearly an hour this morning so have made an appt for tomorrow instead. And DS is NOT asleep yet!

mrsmugoo · 28/07/2014 22:54

Writer - do you have a video monitor?i use mine on mute even when I'm in the room so i can see what he's up to from my bed without having to turn lights on / get out and peek in. Especially handy with all the rolling over he keeps doing!

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 29/07/2014 07:42

Morning everyone - we went straight through from dreamfeed to 5:30 and then 5:30-7:30 which was brilliant!

It was soooooo hot though so I had a bit of a fitful night. Don't want to complain about this lovely weather but the nights are so sticky.

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 29/07/2014 08:23

I don't have a video monitor though it's something I'm thinking of getting seeing as DS is learning to roll. Our living room is on a different floor to the kitchen and I am starting to worry about leaving him alone in the living room whilst I'm making dinner etc as I can't see what he's up to.

DS did 5.5 hours followed by another 3.5 hours. I've just fed him and he was practically asleep at the breast so I've popped him back in his cot. He's now gurgling and wriggling though so I don't think any more sleep is on the cards, I will give it another 10 minutes.

We had a bit of a breakthrough last night in that for the first time in weeks DS settled himself off to sleep. I put him in his cot fully awake following his bedtime feed and within 10 minutes he was asleep.

When did your DS go to sleep eventually cariad?

mrsmugoo · 29/07/2014 09:38

Oh that's good writer maybe you are passing out the other side of 4 month regression now? Glad you had a good night.

I hope so, I'm going on a family holiday to Wales on Friday and I doubt they all want to listen to DS screaming every night Grin

Cariad007 · 29/07/2014 13:00

Writer, DS dropped off just before 11pm. He did wake in the night but I just sleep fed him and then he slept til 9am, when I had to wake him to go to the doc. She's prescribed an antibiotic cream for the mark and said that it is a very strong immune system reaction to the BCG. She said it's more common than the NHS lead us to believe as she seen several babies who've had the same, including one whose mark didn't clear up until he was a year old.

Cannotbelieveit · 29/07/2014 18:29

Yesterday evening was terrible. Ds2 just cried cried cried. He had his 2nd lot of injections and was fine in the 4 hours after it, it was the evening where he was inconsolable Sad

However he settled after his bath and had his last feed and slept 9.45pm-8am! He's been doing 7-9 hours for a good few nights now but that was his best! He's only feeding for about 2 hours in total per 24 hours now which is good. His new trick during feeds is to come off and look up and me and smile Smile it's so sweet! He has also just started really properly laughing!

He was 12 weeks on Saturday

bumpiesonamission · 29/07/2014 19:19

Sorry I've been on and off mn.

writer, he's 6 months.

Been to the HV today for weight in. The have suggested upping his solids and include protein. I feels its a little early for meat but I'm going to try lentils and egg and cheese, any other ideas?

They also said that when u was happy he was eating enough, to give him water in the night to give him less of a reason to wake!?

Hope all evenings are going well. At the moment evenings are ok(although that will change now I've written it) its the 2hrly wakes afterwards!

mrsmugoo · 29/07/2014 20:40

Bumpies - why do you think it's too early for meat? What about a smooth chicken soup?

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 29/07/2014 20:58

Evening all. DS has been asleep since about 8. I'm astounded because he woke up from his last nap at 4 and I thought he'd be losing the plot by 6 and need an early bedtime but he was really chirpy and DH got some nice playtime with him after work.
8 is my preferred bedtime for him really as then there's more chance of him waking up at a reasonable hour past 7 in the morning!

He's in his 0.5 tog grobag tonight so I'm hoping he sleeps better if he's not too hot.

I would like to start trying to get him to sleep until morning in his cot but he rarely settles back off to sleep well past 3am and bringing him in with me is easier but it's just so hot and squashed!

I'm just doing DS's bedtime feed now. Over the last few days feeding has been really uncomfortable due to how sore his gums have been. He's constantly on and off the breast, fractious, twisting his head, pulling on my nipples, loosening his latch etc - I've even had to start using Lanisoh cream again!!

I gave him some Neurofen earlier but it doesn't seem to have helped!

He's also desperately trying to poo which doesn't help. He strains on and off for hours before it appears and makes all kinds of grunts and squealing noises. Does anyone find their LO does this?

Cariad007 · 29/07/2014 21:23

Yep, DS is always straining and grunting but it doesn't always result in poop and even when it does it's never constipation poop, IYKWIM.

notadoctor · 29/07/2014 21:26

Evening all! DS sound asleep on me now. Debating whether to put him down but he's so lovely and snuggly and it gives me an excuse not to tidy up!

Bumpies - I'd really reccomend the Baby Led Weaning cookbook - some great recipe ideas. For protein, if you don't want to go for meat yet how about you try fish cakes? My DD used to love them when she was in the early stages of weaning. She also used to like homemade baked (butter beans/ cannelloni beans in a tomato sauce). Hummus is good too. I'm really excited about weaning DS - I think he's going to love his food!

AuntieMaggie · 29/07/2014 21:37

Last night I had about 2 hours sleep... he went down at 10:30 but instead of the 3 or 4 hours til he first wakes (and then every 1-2 hours) it was an hour so I was then awake til 4:30 either feeding or holding him or trying to put him down when he graced me with about another hour and then was his usual wakeful self til we went out at 11. He slept the whole time we were out but was awake soon after we got back. I'm just feeding him now and hoping he sleeps tonight!

Ds grunts quite a lot too and not always relating to poo in fact most of the time it's not...
