Part 3!

Quick recap - DS, 17 weeks, EBF (stubborn little bottle refuser), crap sleeper! Super knackered Mummy, surviving on 1-2 hour sleeps :(

So I am hoping for a better night tonight seeing as bedtime went smoothly. Last night was hideous and I've eaten a twirl, a bounty and a salted caramel brownie today just to get through the day!

Morning all - welcome to the newbies :)

This one was awake at 1:30 but I left him to see if he'd resettle until 2 but he didn't so I fed and put him straight back down. He slept until 5:30 when he woke up doing his slurpy, whingy/whine for a feed so I fed him and snuggled him in with me until 7:20.

I feel like he's not doing as well as I know he can (I know he can go to 4 or 5am!) but as long as my sleeps are 3 hours+ I can cope and don't feel too bad the next day.

DS had meat for the first time yesterday (minced beef, onions and carrots blended, with mash) he seemed to like it. I've also started giving him porridge made with whole milk for breakfast. I just put ordinary porridge oats in a spice grinder to make then fine so the porridge ends up smooth like readybrek.

Not sure if he was just chilly as the temp dropped in our room and he only had on a long sleeve vest and a 1.0tog bag. Put him next to me and he slept for another 1hr20, only just feeding him now after giving ds1 breakfast!

AuntieMaggie · 08/09/2014 11:11

DS was awake every hour for a feed after his 6 hour stint until 9, was awake for an hour and then went back to sleep! No idea what that's all about! x

cookielove · 08/09/2014 11:16

writer he does sleep well in the day (argh)

Gonna switch that around then!

I didn't sleep between his 12 and 4 feed cause ds was coughing and snuffly, and waked ever so often he was sick and I pumped then he pooped 3 times.

Cannotbelieveit · 08/09/2014 11:32

Just had him weighed and he's 16lb3oz so he's put 1lb on in 28 days. Happy with that!! Still so amazed feeding is going well 4 months in Grin

Writerwannabe83 · 08/09/2014 16:29

DS didn't go back to sleep this morning so I dragged myself out if bed. Naps have been a nightmare as despite asking up before 7am he didn't nap until 1.30pm!!! He was so so grizzly!!

My friend was trying to tell me to start weaning him in the hope his sleep may improve but the idea of it just makes me feel sad Sad

Cariad007 · 08/09/2014 17:15

Have you started him on solids yet Writer? I would say that DS does sleep a bit better since I started giving him purees but he's still a boob monster too! His diet is still mainly milk but I usually try to give him one savoury and one fruity purée per day. I do love feeding him though, and not just for the calorie-burning aspect of it! It's just so lovely to be that close to him. When he takes a break from drinking, looks up at me and reaches out for my face and smiles or coos then I melt a little inside.

Writerwannabe83 · 08/09/2014 17:44

I love that too Cariad - DS will pull off, twist his head round to give me a huge smile and then use his hand to either stroke my face or he will stick his fingers in my mouth. I love it, there's nothing like it.

We are going to start weaning this weekend Smile

ChaffinchOfMegalolz · 08/09/2014 17:52

introducing solids is really fun

mrsmugoo · 08/09/2014 18:39

Weaning hasn't helped this one with his sleeping one little bit!

A word of warning re weaning Writer - avoid baby rice unless you want a constipated baby whose hand you have to hold as he poops because he's in so much pain! DS is now on the pears and prunes and there hasn't been a relapse of that. It's fun to watch the faces he pulls as he tries something new.

Writerwannabe83 · 08/09/2014 20:01

I have downloaded an Annabel Karmel App onto my phone as suggested by a friend - she says it is great for recipes!! It can be my night time reading tonight!!

DS has only had one sleep in 12 hours so I dread to think how tonight will pan out. I'd like to think he will be shattered and sleep well but it's more likely I will end up with an over tired screaming nightmare!!

He's just having his bedtime feed now Smile

Cannotbelieveit · 08/09/2014 20:23

Just gonna transfer DS to his cot. Let's see what time he is up! Shock

mrsmugoo · 08/09/2014 20:37

DS had chicken, sweetcorn and pasta for his dinner - he loved it!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 08/09/2014 20:56

Managed to get DS into his cot fine and he happily slept there for 45 minutes before doing his usual trick of suddenly waking up crying....

Every night he does this and I don't understand why.

That dinner sound lovely missmugoo!! Is it true that once they start weaning their nappies don't smell too fragrant???

mrsmugoo · 08/09/2014 21:36

He's only had meat the last two days so haven't noticed much of a difference in smell. Bit different consistency (sorry tmi) but he has days where not much solid food actually gets swallowed so it's basically still just BM poo.

He had (squished in his hands, sucked on, chucked over the side of the tray) a cream cheese sandwich for lunch today too :)

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 08/09/2014 21:37

Writer - could you try the "wake to sleep" thing with your DS if he always cried after 45 mins asleep - you slightly rouse him after say, 35 minutes?

OP posts:
Cariad007 · 08/09/2014 23:22

Yep, weaning nappies don't smell very nice. But on the positive side they're easier to clean up as the poop is more solid so it doesn't get all over baby and can be flushed down the toilet!

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 01:44

The solid poo in wedge shapes from their bum is much easier to clean (however a toddler on solids teething produces something altogether frightening!!)

So just feeding now, which time wise is better than the last two nights of feeding between 11.30-11.45pm, so hopefully going in the right direction! He's just genuinely hungry when he does feed tho?

Eventful start to the feed as I quickly popped to the loo first and out the corner of my eye saw the biggest house spider ever run past me Blush, had to dispatch it with an air freshener tin!! Eek

mrsmugoo · 09/09/2014 04:13

First wake up of the night! I just slept 6 hours!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 05:19

I'm starting to wish I hadn't asked about poo now Grin

Cannot - when i was much younger I used to spray spiders with hair spray and the once they hardened I'd hoover them up. I feel so guilty about it now!!

Mrsmugoo - that's brilliant!! I bet you feel so, so refreshed!!

I'm very excited this end too because he has only just woke up at 5am!!!! He went 7.5 hours straight which is totally, totally unheard off!!!

Prior to that 7.5hr segment was a 1.5 hour segment where he woke up twice but only for very short periods each and I rocked him back to sleep as opposed to my usual trick of feeding him back to sleep!!

In the last 9 hours he has slept for at least 8.5 of them!! I know it doesn't sound much but I'm so happy and so proud of him because usually he's up every 2-3 hours.

I can't believe he went 7.5!!!! Woohoo!!!

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 07:53

DS was back asleep by 5.30am and that including him self settling himself to sleep in his cot!!

He then slept for another two hours and I am doing his morning feed now.

All in all, a very successful night over here Smile

Cannotbelieveit · 09/09/2014 08:19

Great news writer and mrs!

I'm hoping the fact his first wake up was a couple hours later than the 2 previous nights is a good sign but I know the regression is 2-6 weeks (at least) on average Shock

Writerwannabe83 · 09/09/2014 08:39

If has suddenly dawned on me why things may have been so crap with his sleep!!!

The App I have is bloody fantastic and records all sleeping trends on graphs and this morning I selected the option to look at the graph over the last 30 days and I don't know if it's a coincidence but the improvements to his sleep clearly started when my DH returned to work (he is a teacher).

Prior to my DH returning to work DS was only getting about 10 hours sleep in a 24 hour period but since DH has gone back he is now getting anywhere between 12-14 hours.

I wonder if it's because prior to DH bring off me and DS had a good routine going, his days were nice and calm and structured and everything was pretty organised in terms of all the groups he went to and when his bedtime was etc.

Then my DH broke up and everything in our routine changed and things became more Ad Hoc as opposed to structured. I think it probably really confused DS in terms of him previously only seeing DH for a few hours at night to him then suddenly being there all day, every day.

I know babies thrive on routine so I can't believe this didn't even occur to me before!

Looking at the plotted graph on my App and the obvious trends it is so, so clear to me now!!!

Cariad007 · 09/09/2014 08:54

Bit of a crap night here. DS was up a couple of times wanting to suck but then I had another insomnia attack at around 4am. Managed to drift off a bit around 6 but then DS wanted a feed and was fully awake by 745 so I am knackered. The insomnia is getting ridiculous, I don't know how much longer I can go on on this little sleep. :(
