Part 3!

Quick recap - DS, 17 weeks, EBF (stubborn little bottle refuser), crap sleeper! Super knackered Mummy, surviving on 1-2 hour sleeps :(

So I am hoping for a better night tonight seeing as bedtime went smoothly. Last night was hideous and I've eaten a twirl, a bounty and a salted caramel brownie today just to get through the day!

Yep mine dropped to two feeds around 13 weeks.....then 4 month regression and we were doing 4 or 5 a night.
Now 19 weeks and we are settling into a routine of a 10:30 dreamfeed and one, possibly two other feeds overnight. I'm still not getting more than 3 hours sleep at a time though!

I agree batman our little ones are too young for cc. DS cried for 20 mins in the car on the way home today before stopping and falling asleep - broke my heart but was stuck in traffic so couldn't do anything about it :(

I do need to find a way to put him down more in the day though but goodness knows what! I'm hoping as he becomes more alert toys and things will provide a distraction. ..

mrsmugoo · 26/07/2014 19:56

I think I started putting my DS under the playgym on his sheepskin from about 8 weeks, he would flap his arms around and amuse himself for 10-15 minute bursts.

Bit of a stressful day here what with having to pack and keep DS amused too. DP managed to pack all the books (6 boxes - eek!) and I've done photo frames and ornaments. Tomorrow DP's mum is coming over to keep an eye on DS while we both pack and hopefully DS will be ok with her. DP's father has refused to come - apparently having a grandchild is not a good enough excuse to visit us but that's another story! DP has just managed to put DS to sleep by putting him in the pram and wheeling him on the terrace so might try and do a bit more packing now. Not looking forward to moving day at all!!

Writerwannabe83 · 26/07/2014 21:26

Sounds like you've made a good and organised start cariad Smile

DS has fallen asleep whilst feeding and he's in my arms. We are putting him in his cot for the first time tonight and I feel anxious about it. Whenever he's been in his Moses Basket or Crib it has been right next to the side of my bed, but his cot is right on the opposite side of the room. It doesn't seem right anymore when I look to the side of my bed and see furniture instead of DS Sad

mrsmugoo · 26/07/2014 21:49

It's a big step when you move them away from right next to your bed but you'll probably find you both get better sleep.

I can't wait to get him in his own room but unfortunately we've got quite a bit of work to do in the spare room to turn it into a "nursery" and DH is busy working until he goes to the US for work in 3 weeks for a fortnight.

Well I just lay him down in it when he was semi-asleep, he was fine for about 30 seconds until he realised he didn't know where he was and then he started crying.

And so the fun begins....

Writerwannabe83 · 26/07/2014 22:11

And he's back down......let see how long it lasts....

mrsmugoo · 27/07/2014 01:30

Cot gymnastics have started.

Just rolled him back over and sat with him with my hand in him until he dropped back off.

Let's see how long he lasts!

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 27/07/2014 02:36

Rolling over again FFS!

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 27/07/2014 08:14

Ended bringing him with me and feeding at 4:30
He woke again at 6:30 but went back down until 7:45 after a feed.

So another night of bitty 2 hour sleeps :(

What a great night! I can't believe how well he slept in his cot!! I think he loved all the space because he was obviously spinning round in circles as he was in a different position every time I looked at him! Grin

He went 6.5 hours, had a feed and then another 3.5 hours Smile

Have you got a peaceful day ahead of you mrsmugoo to try and rejuvenate yourself a little?

Cariad007 · 27/07/2014 10:21

Some one has kidnapped the baby who slept til 10am almost everyday last week and replaced it with a 6am waker! He wakes, feeds, naps an hour then wants to feed again. This went on til about 9am when DP took him. And now he's up for the day and extra grumpy as he hasn't slept well. Babies!!!

Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2014 10:34

Maybe it's the same person who kidnapped my good sleeping baby a few weeks ago? Grin

bumpiesonamission · 27/07/2014 10:42

Morning all.

Quick question.

Z has started waking a bit later after his 5am feed (after feeding every 2 hrs from 10pm) but now doesn't want milk to around 10/11am. Why has he shifted and what can I do to make him eat more during the day and have that 6hr hunger strike at night?!!!

PollyP0429 · 27/07/2014 19:21

Urgh! What an evening! For the past couple of nights (after the 5 nights of starving screamer) DD has been an absolute star for me. Sometimes a few little paddys but she's gone down reasonably quickly and slept for a good 3/4 hours from then.

Whenever there is anyone else in, including DH, DD screams and fusses and flat out refuses to go down. I am tryig very hard right now to control my temper with DD and DH...

mrsmugoo · 27/07/2014 20:43

Yes Writer a chilled day here - DS has been grumpy. He's teething and it's so hot so he's been grizzly and unsettled.

He went down for the night just after 7:30 and I've finally got my feet up!

DH is home tomorrow thank god!

DS was super grumpy this morning but then had a nap before DP's mum took him for a long walk while we packed. Apparently he was beautifully behaved during the walk and we got a fair bit of packing done although as usual it doesn't feel like much! He was asleep on DP's shoulder again just now until DP dropped his phone with a clatter and woke him up! Am hoping for a good nights sleep tonight and REALLY hoping that he doesn't wake at 6am again tomorrow. I'm not holding out much hope though... :(

Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2014 21:36

Glad you got some rest mrsmugoo Smile

I bought DS up at 9pm for his last feed and now he's asleep in his cot.

cariad - there's nothing more f**king annoying than babies being woken by their clumsy, loud and thoughtless fathers is there?! I have lost count of the amount of times my DH has been responsible for waking DS up. In the split moment it happens I feel like I want to divorce him!!

Polly - I have banned DH from coming anywhere near us at bedtime as when he's about DS just won't settle. It's much easier and peaceful doing it on my own Smile

bump - I don't think we can make our babies do anything unfortunately, but God how wonderful it would be Grin In this weather I think all our babes are being fractious, unsettled and having altered feeding. I think the heat just does strange things to them! How old is your DS?

Cariad007 · 27/07/2014 21:44

DS is a funny one - woke when DP dropped his phone but never wakes when ambulances speed past with sirens blaring! I am hoping the heat is why he's been waking early. It's predicted to be a bit cooler this coming week so fingers crossed he'll be a bit more settled. And naturally heavy rain is predicted for next Saturday, which is moving day!

DS hasn't pooped all weekend either which I'm mildly concerned about. For the last month and a half he's been pretty regular and going at Keats once a day, unlike before when he was a once a week baby. Guess I'll just put it down to being unsettled.

Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2014 22:01

Mine is the opposite, he normally poos once every 2-3 days but now he's going daily Grin

It may just be your DS is having more of the watery milk to quench his thirst which is absorbed easier and so there is less waste than if he were having the more thicker/calorific milk??

Cariad007 · 27/07/2014 22:28

Naturally I meant lately he's been going at least once a day. I don't take him to Keats House to poop! You might be right re the watery milk writer - he's been feeding a bit more often but not as long this past week. I'm going to take him to the doc this week anyway as his BCG vaccine mark is still red and raised and it's been about 12 weeks since he had it.

mrsmugoo · 27/07/2014 22:29

Dreamfeed done and I'm off to bed. Here's hoping for a good night. I've put a preemptive rolled up blanket down the side of the cot tonight to stop him rolling!

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 27/07/2014 23:07

cariad - more frequent but shorter feeds are pretty par for the course in this heat. Babies just want a drink as opposed to food. My DS has plateaued a bit on his centile chart and HV said it's completely normal as a lot of babies have poorer weight gain over the summer purely because they don't feed as well (in terms of not feeding for as long) and shorter feeds mean they don't get as many calories.

I hope everything is ok with his BCG mark - I always feel for babies who have to have that, it was bad enough as a teenager, haha. What brave little babes they must be.

mrsmugoo - when it comes to dream feeding do you choose to give it to DS or does he stir and show signs of being hungry?

mrsmugoo · 28/07/2014 07:17

Morning all - thankfully no cot gymnastics last night and he went through to 4:30 without needing a feed so I got a pretty good chunk of sleep

Re: dreamfeed - no I am lifting him out completely asleep, feeding him and popping him back in. He's practically none the wiser and it means he don't usually need feeding til at least 4. He may or may not go through without it but he seems to take a good feed and often doesn't feed that much a bedtime because he's so tired so I'm going to keep doing it until he can reliably go through to morning and then wean off.
