Part 3!

Quick recap - DS, 17 weeks, EBF (stubborn little bottle refuser), crap sleeper! Super knackered Mummy, surviving on 1-2 hour sleeps :(

So I am hoping for a better night tonight seeing as bedtime went smoothly. Last night was hideous and I've eaten a twirl, a bounty and a salted caramel brownie today just to get through the day!

Thanks all

mungo, he's only been properly weaning for a week.

writer, great suggestions, i love houmous!

wrt teething, have you tried dentinox teething toothpaste? Seemed to help ds. whose two teeth appeared at 20wks, no signs!

I had to start laniosh again when the biting started oooouch

Writerwannabe83 · 29/07/2014 22:12

Notadoctor - anything that means you don't have to clean is a bonus!! Me and DH have a system in our house where come evening tine one of us gets DS ready for bed and the other does the washing up and clean the kitchen. So far DH has opted for the kitchen each night Grin I'm so sad about not having the chance to do the washing up every day...

I'm dreading weaning DS because I really will feel then that I don't have a baby anymore Grin

auntmaggie - it sounds like you had a really tough night, I hope things are better for you tonight Thanks

bumpies - he doesn't have any teeth yet but I'm already dreading the thought of it. I don't think his weight gain will be very impressive when he's weighed later this week as his feeding has been pretty poor.

Well DS is fast asleep in his cot and once again he self settled himself off to sleep - it's absolute heaven compared to the absolute hell we've had over the last few weeks!

mrsmugoo · 29/07/2014 22:58

It's funny you should mention the lansinoh Writer - I've been using it the last few days too!

His latch on the left side has gone to shit and I've got a really painful blister on that nipple. I tried to push on through but I think I'm going to have to take a day off feeding from that side and express instead.

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 04:28

I have a blister on my left one too Grin
I haven't got to the point of easing feeding on that aside yet but I'm worried it's going hat way!!

I'm up feeding DS. He first woke after 3 hours because he'd been spinning in his cot and appeared wedged. I tried rocking him back to sleep but as he seemed so upset I comfort fed him and he was asleep again within minutes. He then woke up 3.5hrs later (which is now) and he's having a huge feed!!

Ivegot my year mask ready for even it's time to go back to bed as I'm sure by the time I'm done with DS the sun will be starting to rise... Hmm

johull · 30/07/2014 07:15

Writer- my consultant has given my dd a prescription for lactulose to help with straining- as she also does it. She said it can develop into problems later in life which is why she's keen to treat it now. She did stress that it's a very common problem.

Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 07:41

The thing is though, when he does go, it's really runny, the normal consistency of breast milk poo - hence why I don't understand the straining Hmm

DS's bad night has continued as 2 hours after he fell asleep he was up again and crying. He's had another feed and I've put him back down. He keeps trumping so I think him being so unsettled last night is just him gearing up to do his poo!

mrsmugoo · 30/07/2014 08:04

Knackered this morning - went to bed just before 11, was up feeding at 2:30 and 5:30 and he was awake for the day before 7 although I managed to doze next to him til 7:30

It was just so hot that I think he was thirsty as he doesn't usually need that 2:30 feed now.

Cariad007 · 30/07/2014 08:56

We have new neighbours - about 7 guys in a 2 bed (no lounge) flat who decided that they needed to beat down their mattresses at 1am, waking me. Then I had another attack of insomnia and couldn't get back to sleep for hours, so I feel pretty wrung out this morning. DS was wide awake at around 730am but DP has the morning off work and took him so that I could get a bit more rest. We are going to the new flat for a second look today as we need to see what we need to buy in terms of stuff for the kitchen etc and hopefully DS will fall asleep whe we are out.

Cannotbelieveit · 30/07/2014 08:57

Just to keep me on my toes DS was up after 5 hours but I think it was thirst from the heat as he fed for less than 10 mins and was back to sleep. He got up for the day at 7.30am then. Still shattered tho!

Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 09:45

A whole bunch of tired mom's today. DS didn't go back to sleep this morning, which is very unlike him, so we got up earlier than normal. I'm feeding him now and he seems very drowsy so hopefully he will have a little nap.

DS rolled over onto his front for the first time this morning Smile

Cannotbelieveit · 30/07/2014 09:54

Yay for rolling writer!!

Ryder started back to front rolling a couple weeks ago and now does it at any opportunity! Esp during nappy change the bugger! Now he's as difficult to change as his big brother. Shock

Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 09:57

He's been rolling onto his side for the last 10 days but has never managed a full roll until this morning. I left him on his back on his play mat whilst I went to get some clothes for him and when I returned he was completely face down Grin

I'm panicking though about him rolling and suffocating whilst he sleeps...

puggywug81 · 30/07/2014 10:30

Morning all, hope everyone is well.

Fin is still teething and I'm full of a cold Sad I think he has a tooth starting to break through so his sleep is very disturbed at the moment. Hope his little Peggy appears soon!

AuntieMaggie · 30/07/2014 17:00

Another night like the one before last night - I can cope if I get that initial 3/4 hours but when it's only an hour then forget it.

Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 21:09

Oh auntmaggie - you must be so tired. How old is your DS again??

I'm just feeding DS now and hoping he'll settle nicely afterwards. We've had a really busy and active day, so much so that when we got jone at 3pm we lay on the bed together and next thing I know it's almost 6pm!! I couldn't believe it! DS was still asleep next to me but I woke him up as I didn't want him to have a massive sleep (although 3 hours is a long nap) and then be awake all night Grin

johull · 30/07/2014 21:45

(Can I just ask- what time did your babies go to bed when they were 4 weeks. Thanks :-)

mrsmugoo · 30/07/2014 21:58

At 4 weeks it was still evening cluster feeding and settling by about 10/12

Didn't have a set bedtime until after 8 weeks when we started bedtime/bath at 7 but even then would sometimes take until 8:30/9 to finish feeding and settle for the night.

I don't think bedtime could be relied on until about 12 weeks.

His bedtime is 7:30-8 now, depending on his last nap.

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 30/07/2014 22:54

Do 4 week old babies have bedtimes?
Mine fed 2 hourly 24/7 - there was no bedtime Grin

He's now 18 weeks and his bedtime is still hit and miss.

For example, it's 22.50pm and he's still awake, almost 2.5 hours after we started his 'bedtime' routine Hmm

johull · 31/07/2014 06:45

Thanks very much. She's actually. 10 weeks but 4 weeks corrected. We've been letting her sleep at about 7:30-8 for the night (5hours) but not sure if that's a bit early. Thanks for your help Smile
I don't post much now but I read this thread every night. Will be back with some more questions soon no doubt :-)

notadoctor · 31/07/2014 08:06

We had an eventful night! Started with DD (who is 2.8yo) crying so much she was sick. We are trying to get her out of the habit of one of us sitting with her until she's asleep which started when DS was born. In a way I don't mind doing it but it's actually starting to mean she fights sleep because she wants to sit with us cuddling for longer. Needless to say the change is not popular... She settled eventually but then wet the bed at 5.40 this morning! She's been dry for quite a while now and so was v upset about it. The crying woke DS up who screamed for a feed while I changed the bed etc. We eventually all went back to sleep until 7.30ish (which is super late for DD). She's watching Cbeebies with DH now while I sort DS out, feeling quite bleary eyed! Hope everyone else had more peaceful nights!

Writerwannabe83 · 31/07/2014 09:38

Sounds stressful!!!

We had a good night despite how long it took him to fall asleep again

He did a 7.5 hour stretch, woke for a feed and then had another 2.5 hours.

I'm just feeding him now and then we are going to get up and enjoy the glorious sunshine!!!

Cariad007 · 31/07/2014 09:48

DE refused his crib so I kept him in bed with me and he was up every few hours for feeding as usual. He's dropped his day time feeds down to about 3 or 4 but still insists on frequent night feelings, grr!

Have baby massage this afternoon and he's quite popular among the other mums as he's he oldest baby there. All their babies are about 6-8 weeks so still not smiling or very interactive yet, unlike his lordship here!

mrsmugoo · 31/07/2014 09:57

Writer if it's still taking you that long to get him settled at night then are you still trying too early?

You've always had him more on a 10-10 schedule, if you want to shift him to 8-8 you'll have to slowly adjust his routine bit by bit as his body clock is obviously saying 10ish is his preferred bedtime.

Mine has settled down by 8 at the latest since the word go really.

OP posts:
mrsmugoo · 31/07/2014 10:04

We had an ok night. He went down at 7:45 and I have him a dreamfeed at 10:45ish.

He woke me up by shuffling about just after 3 and I left him to settle but 45 minutes later he was still awake and starting to whinge a bit so I fed him.

Usually I would bring him in with me as he doesn't settle well in the cot by this time but I decided to persevere with the cot and put him in with white noise on a 30 minute timer on my iPad. We we're both asleep before it stopped!

He was awake again at 6 and I brought him in with me after a quick feed he settled and slept til 7:45.

DH took him and let me sleep til 9:45. I'd only been up a few minutes and DS has just dropped off to sleep by himself on his beanbag, cuddling his grobag bless him! I could have stayed in bed even longer!

bumpiesonamission · 31/07/2014 10:07

Urg, I don't know how long I can go on. DS has been up every 1.5hrs/2hrs for the last 4 nights and then wants to party around 4:45. I am on my kneesSad . He won't settle unless I feed him and he is feeding a lot.

What am I doing wrong?? He's still not interested in solids Sad Sad
