I think to start the new thread off we should reintroduce ourselves and our babies for the sake of our own memories and also for any newbies who may join Smile

I have a 10 week old DS who is EBF. Has been sleeping through the night for the last week and I'm just waiting patiently for things to go downhill as I'm sure they will Smile

And midnight Grin at your being jealous of sleeping cartoon characters! I occasionally dream of checking into a hotel for a night. Nothing fancy, just a big double bed with crisp white sheets and duvet and no-one else there...just for one night...

DS is in Moses basket in our room. On nights like last night where he's thrashing about a bit with wind I think I do sometimes get him up when maybe he would go back to sleep (or indeed is still asleep). But generally I've got better at not leaping to the cot at the slightest sound. Realised last night though how big he's looking in Moses basket - only an inch or two before his head gets to the top!! He's 9 weeks - seems too early to move him into a cot in the nursery. Is there another interim option other than having him in bed with me the whole time? (I'd rather he wasn't really as then I think transition to cot will be harder and he's only just getting a bit better at going to sleep in pram / Moses basket).

Cannotbelieveit · 21/06/2014 10:40

Birds I got a mothercare gliding crib which sell for £100 for £12 off eBay!! Just bought a new mattress for it and recently sold it for £30!!

However my ds1 was out of Moses by 4 weeks and the crib by 3 months so it might not be much use for you now!

I'd actually recommend a travel cot as an inbetween.

Ideally how long did you want DS in with you?

Cannotbelieveit · 21/06/2014 10:42

I meant to say this time (as we weren't living here for ds1's early months) the cotbed fits in our room so ds2 has been in it since day 1 in a sleepyhead

FrankelandFilly · 21/06/2014 11:10

Birds do you have room for the cot in your room? We moved the cot into our bedroom at about 8/9 weeks as DD was rapidly outgrowing her MB and I wasn't ready for her to go into a room on her own. She's still in the room with me now as I don't see the point in her being in another room when there's only the 2 of us! We'll probably move her into the nursery when DH gets back later this year.

midnight1983 · 21/06/2014 14:29

We moved our baby into a cotbed in our room around 9 weeks - which he seemed to enjoy as he likes to turn himself 180 degrees during the night! He has a habit of turning himself onto his side after I put him on his back and likes to sleep that way. Scared me at first but he is fine.

midnight1983 · 21/06/2014 14:32

Oh, and on sleeping through the night i think it is unusual at 3 months. Lovely when it dies happen! My husband was telling me that all his colleagues were telling him that their babies slept through the night by now and we had to be get tough and blah blah blah and I told him they were all filthy liars!

PollyP0429 · 21/06/2014 19:13

Evening people. LO still awake, squealing happily >_< another crappy night last night too, up about 5 times feeding pacing the floor in despair or DH trying to get her back to sleep. She was feeding to sleep for the past few nights with no wakings til 10/11, could of done with that tonight...

She's been in her cot in her own room since 3 months old. She was practising rolling in her crib and waking herself up with her feet caught between the bars. It's now funny going in in the morning to see what position she's ended up in. She's also in her own room - combination of lack of space for the cot in ours and waking her up whilst getting into bed ourselves.

And it's gonna be a hard one getting her off tonight...

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2014 20:42

DS is having his bedtime feed now - well he's trying to amongst his tears. We have a problem n that DS loves being in the bath but the minute we take him out he starts screaming and gets himself into the most horrendous state! He doesn't stop crying, has tears down his face and just wails and wails to the point where he's struggling to catch his breath. It's the same thing every night and I don't understand it. We are thinking if cutting out his bedtime bath because him getting so worked up just defeats the concept of winding down to sleep.

He has also got a really nasty spot on his him, it's more a boil really and it looks so, so painful. His chin is all red with pus visible within the 'spot' area - it looks awful. We have just given him some Calpol to see if it will help settle him as I think the spot is making it painful for him to feed.

I'm worried he's getting an infection in it so might take him to OOH tomorrow if it doesn't look any better.

It's his first night in his Crib tonight - fingers crossed he isn't bothered by the change and sleeps nicely in it Smile

That doesn't sound nice Writer, my DS's BCG mark started oozing pus yesterday though it's dried up a bit today. He's asleep now but I'm expecting him to be up again in a couple of hours so am hoping he will feed again and then go back to sleep. Am now torn between lying next to him in case he wakes up and going to the lounge to read. He also managed to drop off in his bouncy chair earlier for a nap which was a first for him!

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2014 21:45

He's been grizzling now for over an hour....

I can't tell if it's because his spot hurts, or whether he's overtired (no real naps today) or whether he just hates his Crib....

I keep picking him up to soothe him and stop his tears, then as soon as I lie him down the crying starts again. It's going to be a long night I fear.

OP posts:
Cannotbelieveit · 21/06/2014 21:59

Lots of naps here today so we shall see if we get another good night! He conked out after his bath at 8 and has just fed for the last 40 mins so will see if I can transfer him to cot in a bit!

Sending sleep vibes!

Writer hope his spot is ok? I would personally get it checked at ooh tomorrow if it looks worse esp if in an awkward place for feeding!

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2014 22:26

His spot is pretty minging! DH keeps saying he wants to pop it Hmm

DS continued to scream and scream and DH finally had the good sense to come upstairs and give me a break about an hour after the screaming started but I couldn't relax whilst I could hear DS so upset downstairs.

I decided to do the only thing I know what to do in these situations which is offer the breast!! He fed to sleep and is now sprawled across me, all sweaty from his ongoing tantrums and I'm petrified to move him. I know I have to do it at some point but if he wakes up and starts crying again I may want to leave the Country...l

Oh dear writer, poor you and poor baby. Best of luck for the night.

Cannotbelieveit · 21/06/2014 22:36

Oh writer poor boy!!

Transfer worked, hoping for 7 hours again!! Pretty please Ryder!!

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2014 23:30

The transfer was successful. However, as soon as I turned the bedside lamp off he started crying again!

Out of bed I got, picked him up for more cuddles and he did a burp. Once he had drifted off on my shoulder, about 5 minutes ago, I put him back in his Crib where he appears to be in a state of sleep but still wriggling around and kicking about. Please, please don't start crying again....

Hope you all have good nights ladies!!!

Having an unsettled night here. DS only slept from 8:15 - 10:40 and then after I put him down at 11:15 woke again after an hour.

I'm just about to put him back down now. I didn't manage to sleep between feeds so I've only had less than two hours so far tonight.

It's bloody boiling on our room. DS is in just a ss vest with a muslin draped over him but he still feels warm to the touch.

Cannotbelieveit · 22/06/2014 03:01

Just under 5 hours so can't moan! Will transfer him in a bit! Really hoping he can last til 6-7 at least!! DS1 had a better night too, his teeth have given him a bit of a break tonight bless him. My parents are over again today so when my dad takes DS1 out and Ryder naps, I shall be napping too!!

johull · 22/06/2014 03:05

My DD is preemie at 4.9lbs. She is 4 weeks now and is due 3 weeks from now!
She sleeps 11-2/3 and then until 6. Is this about right?? When can I expect a longer night sleep? She is BF during the day and 2 formula needs at night one at 10.30 before bed and the other at 2-3. I do formula because it certainly keeps her asleep longer!!! If I did EBM she would wake at 1 3/4 and then 6.

Cannotbelieveit · 22/06/2014 03:14

Johull hello, that sounds about right and sounds good considering her tiny size!

johull · 22/06/2014 04:02

Thanks v much. One more question. The poor girl wakes us up every night with loud babbling yet she is asleep. Is this normal? She's 100% asleep but just very loud. Does anyone else experience this? X

Writerwannabe83 · 22/06/2014 04:27

Welcome johull - congratulations on your daughter!! Making very odd noises in their sleep is pretty normal I think, I know my DS does it. Sometimes he makes little gurgling noises but other times it's full on screaming!!

He went just under 5 hours before waking himself up with a trump so definitely better than last night!! For done reason, for the last 3-4 days he hasn't stopped trumping!!

He's just having a feed now and then I'm hoping for another 3 hours sleep.

Sorry to hear you've had a bit of a rough night *mrsmugoo
*, I hope you managed to get some sleep after posting.

Woken up at 3, woken up at 4...

mrsmugoo · 22/06/2014 04:48

Have now done 2 more feeds, so 4 altogether. He seemed very hungry each time, not waking for comfort. I'm pooped, haven't slept more than 1.5 hours in a stretch all night and he'll be up for the day in an hour in all likelihood.

Johull - I'd say you are very lucky to be getting that amount of sleep with a newborn! My DS is 3.5 months and has done 4 feeds tonight!

puggywug81 · 22/06/2014 05:04

A bad night here Sad took till 1am to settle Fin, he woke at 3.30 and has been awake ever since,oh is snoring his head off and as unreasonable as it is I want to stamp on his balls grrr! Hope everyone else had better nights.

midnight1983 · 22/06/2014 05:05

Oh yes, johull, I agree that is amazing sleep for a newborn! Congratulations, btw.
