Jo Frost's breastfeeding advice

I've just seen this on facebook and I'm really shocked. I'm not really a fan of the alpha parent blog (and I feel a couple of her comments on here are a bit unnecessary) but honestly, the review is 99% spot on and the content of the book is unbelievable.

Breastfeeding mums are called "martyrs", more myths and ridiculousness than Clare-Buy-My-Book, advice which is so utterly backwards that it would do more to scupper breastfeeding than to help it, and ideas which went out of fashion about 40 years ago!

I've never liked Jo Frost but I find this just totally awful - surely she should have got a researcher in or something?!

I don't think it matters that a number of the books she reviews are not recently published. The point is the books are still around, still being bought and borrowed from libraries, and they all contribute to the culture around breastfeeding.

And while I agree that babies need to learn to sleep I don't think any of this advice can come from a woman who has never had her own child. Being a nanny isn't the same. If you haven't breast fed how can you judge or offer solutions. Co sleeping, extended breast feeding , mixed feeding Etc are all personal choice .
She can't comment in my humble opinion.

The book is clearly full of crap - but probably shows how far we've come in the past 5 or 6 years. I bet more recent editions have different advice.

But the book aside I cannot stand the Alpha Parent's tone and lack of tolerance or understanding either. She clearly thinks women who FF for whatever reason - and anyone who supports them - should be given a tough time. Comes across as a bit fascistic.
