Hipp organic? Not sure if it's any different to other infant milks on the market but it says organic on it and it comes in a box, so that's 2 of your criteria.

Hipp organic and either buy one of the containers for it (the cardboard boxes are crap) or nick a less 'organic' friends empty formula pot. Thats what I did

They are definitely better, the poo that comes out of the babies is far more natural IMO

I'm just curious really, I'm BFing now but thinking of stopping some feeds and switching. But I've never heard of anyone feeding anything other than C&G, Aptamil or SMA.

Hipp is organic, but other than that they are all much the same, the ingredients are regulated so they all have to have pretty much the same stuff in them.

Some brands are actually made by the same company, aptimil also make a cheaper one, they have the same ingredients but are just marketed differently in different packaging etc, diff target market.

Hipp uses supposedly aggressive marketing tactics. No, I don't think any formula is 'naice'. All formulas (except soya) is cow's milk. They are all pretty much the same, all with approximately 40 chemically altered & added ingredients. All the main UK brands have recently been tested to contain 100 times more aluminium than tap water is legally permitted to have.
I mix fed for a short period with ds2 & sorely regret it after researching all the facts on infant feeding.Human milk is the only 'naice' milk for human babies.

Having known nothing about infant feeding before DS I was shocked when I started to look into it.

Chemicals and processing aside, formula still contains things like bovine insulin which is being linked to the diabetes epidemic.

All formulas if made correctly are perfectly safe to use. However, if you are successfully bf then try to really think through your reasons for introducing a bottle as it's much more of a faff.

If you still want to introduce a bottle you could try expressing milk. Otherwise i believe all formula is much the same although i am much too scared to switch to a cheaper brand from aptamil!

Aptamil is marketed as a 'premium' brand and priced accordingly, but its true there's not much difference between brands.

My biggest problem with formula is the severe lack of ethics (and that's being polite) that surround formula manufacturers. Nestlé and Danone are particularly well known for their poor ethics in this area, although all formula companies use aggressive and unethical marketing practices. For that reason alone, I would never buy formula unless it was an absolute medical necessity and donor breastmilk wasn't available.

I don't eat meat and only buy certain milk myself (organic, unhomogenised, from a small local herd) where possible so ideally I would keep the same standards for DS.

But I have returned to work and really am not enjoying expressing so interested in alternatives. I think my supply is dipping too.

What did you all give your children at age 1? Cows milk? DS is 10mo so maybe I could just get through the next few months and go on to that...

Planned for DS1 to have cow's milk at a year but he wasn't interested - just BF morning and evening and water during the day. He's fully weaned now and still doesn't drink milk, though does eat other dairy.

DS is allergic to dairy so I just BF morning and evening. He's 18 months never had cows milk.

Formula is made in the same way. They all have the same environmental impact. The word "organic" is just thrown around on packaging. It doesn't mean that the product is any better (look at baby food)

The only environmentally friendly way to feed a baby is to breast feed.

At 10m I went back to work and just fed in the mornings and evenings. DS had water during the day. It was fine and I fed him until 18m with no problems - I would have carried on but we were ttc no2.

Are you still feeding him as his main source of milk? I think that you can give cows milk to under ones provided it's not the main milk. I took that to mean feeding a few times from breast but could have a cup or so of cows milk a day.

No, you can use cows milk in cooking. The only drink you should give babies other then milk before one is water.

Ask on places like the leaky boob and analytical armadillo (on fb) as there are some milk bnaks that ,at be able to help and some private set ups, obviously you will need to find out about testing etc if the donors.

I am not sure it is down much in the UK, assuming you are UK based? And it may be a pita to organise, which if you are going to be having chemotherapy, with lots of hospital visits/side effects may just be one stress to much? At least with formula you can stock up, order it to be delivered to your door etc.

Honestly it must be heartbreaking stopping when you don't want to but your baby needs a well mum, so do whatever makes life easier for you and I think formulawill be easier.

Fwiw I have five, the first three were totally breastfed, the last two were bfed for a few months and then bottle fed, for a variety of reasons. They are fine and well and my bond is the same etc.

You can do bottle feeding in a nurturing way like bfeeding, skin to skin and snuggled up etc, if you gooogle there is info on it, but its common sense tbh, cuddles, skin and eye contact etc.
