The down side of co-sleeping: a thrashing baby.

Dear god baby larle is being annoying, thrashing about and bobbing on and off boob. I just want to sleep Hmm

lazzaroo · 30/06/2013 06:24

Morning all! Struggling to post at night....my eyes hurt too much! Little one crashed out during her bedtime feed just before 7 last night. She skipped her late afternoon nap so was shattered.

Also teething soyo, we gave her calpol and she was much more settled after that. She didn't feed till 1.30am but woke several times. Then awake again at 3.40 & up about 5.45am.

Hope you all got some sleep!

larlemucker · 30/06/2013 12:20

Morning!
Think we may have to stop using the changing table as I have just banged baby larles head on it whilst putting him down, there's not much room on there now. Poor baby larle, he cried a little but there's no mark on the back if his head so think all ok.
In other TMI news he hasn't pood since Monday. HV clinic tomorrow!!

SoYo · 30/06/2013 15:36

Larle we're having the same with the Co-sleeping. The thrashing is driving me to distraction!

As for the pooing a few weeks ago madam went from 2-3 per day to going first 9 then 13 days without (you wouldn't believe the nappy at the end of each stretch!) and now has settled to every 3-5days. Apparently the norm for breastfed babies is anything from 5/day to every 3 weeks and as long as they're not distressed by it and its still soft it's not a problem.

Madam took 1.5hrs to go to bed with massive screamy fits in between but went down at 9.30 after calpol and didn't wake until 3! Lovely. Then up again at 6 but can't complain at that.

larlemucker · 30/06/2013 16:17

Are you weaning soyo? Baby larle is on one meal a day ATM.
He finally pood this aft but strained a lot and there was a bit of blood. Think that's because of the straining but will see what HV says tomorrow.

MIL coming round for roast dinner and a game of scrabble. I always lose at the scrabble though Hmm

lazzaroo · 30/06/2013 20:17

Not wishing to go on endlessly about poo! But can I just add that nappy habits have changed here too! Must be effect of solids, but generally they're less frequent, more effort and definitely more potent!!

Hope you won larle!
S

larlemucker · 30/06/2013 20:27

No lazza I never bloody win. I want to play a new game next time!!

Baby larle is loving finger food (or BLW), he had roast beef tonight and loved it!! It's so much easier than purées!!

SoYo · 30/06/2013 20:43

No she's only 17 weeks and I'm going to try to hold out until the full 26 and do a mixture of a few purees but mostly BLW.

Have you just gone straight in with bits of everything Larle or worked him gradually up to that?

lazzaroo · 30/06/2013 20:43

It's fun watching them too Smile. doing a bit of spoon feeding & blw, which is nice as dd1 never put anything in her own mouth! Including food! We have to be on our toes now though....baby lazza puts everything in her mouth. Found her eating the tv magazine the other day! Smile and she has learnt how to escape from the bumbo so high chair is out of the loft.

Hope it's a good night for all

abi2790 · 30/06/2013 20:59

Evening ladies. Finally bedtime! I have been soo tired all day!

Ds loves his food too. I try him with 3 small meals a day. He tends to eat the most at teatime but loves breakfast and dinner too. I agree larle about blw being better than purees. I tried him with purees first and he hated it now he just eats what we eat and loves it. His favourite is chicken. He had spicy chicken on Friday and loved it Grin.

We started at 20.5 weeks soyo as he seemed ready. He had tried to eat my apple on 2 occasions!!
We started on baby rice then purées of veg and fruit. He loved porridge but the dr said that could be contributing to the constipation so we have stopped that for now.

We started BLW last week, just fruit and veg again. He had pasta on weds but there was projectile vomit so going to avoid wheat for another month or so. Tonight was his first try of meat, not sure how much he swallowed but he was biting chunks off, sucking and chewing it and then spitting it out!!

Baby larle puts EVERYTHING in his mouth! It's a nightmare! But I think that's why he likes BLW, when spoon fed he grabs the spoon!!

He has been upstairs in bed for an hour with the radio on. Sat next to monitor and it sounds like he is having a party upstairs!!

SoYo · 01/07/2013 01:32

First feed=stingy eyes. I'm not a big fan of anything before 2am as it usually means a 3+ feed night.

lazzaroo · 01/07/2013 01:40

First feed here too. She's been unsettled and woke a few times before 10 but hasn't needed feeding.

larle we have I pod & speakers in the nursery & baby lazza listens to ocean sounds at night & nap times. It helps settle her and drowns out noise from toddler lazza! White noise really does the trick if she's over tired & shouty ( thankfully not very often!)

Fully expect her to wake again at 3ish but not really be hungry so e difficult to settle.....we'll see....am waiting for the day for her to surprise me!

SoYo · 01/07/2013 01:46

Hi Lazza, shall I put the kettle on? I could just go a large mug of earl grey! No more biscuits for me though, no sir, today is the day I start claiming back my body after 4m of sloth like living.

larlemucker · 01/07/2013 04:54

I was doing quite well on ww then Thursday my friend came round with take away choc fudge cake from my fav cafe!
Friday I bought digestives and dunked half a pack in a mug of tea. Sat was christening so quiche, crisps and more cake!!
Oh dear!!!!!

Sometimes you just need to pig out!!!!

SoYo · 01/07/2013 05:02

Nobody can resist a choc digestive with tea though, it's unnatural.

I have a feeling this might be us for the day, she's smiling & cooing at me in between sucks! Fingers crossed she goes back down for a bit!

lazzaroo · 01/07/2013 07:45

Morning! Well, she managed back in her cot till 4.30. Fed her at 4.50 but no going back to sleep so it was an early start fir us too soyo!

abi2790 · 01/07/2013 22:48

Well we've probably had the worst night since ds was born tonight. He's been biting the past few weeks every now and again but tonight he has been biting constantly. It must be teething again. My nupples feel like when he was a newborn!

He's in his own room tonight but I wished I chose a different day after all the screaming and biting tonight. He's asleep now though thankfully. I thought it was never going to happen!

OP posts:
SoYo · 02/07/2013 01:48

Not a great start here either. Initial bedtime was 8.45 and then she woke again at 10 and screamed until I gave in and fed her again (nearly an hour as I'd assumed there was no way she could be hungry that soon) and has now been up since 1 so 2hrs since going down. We'll be very lucky if we get to 4 after this. It's like after the first wake she breaks some kind of seal and can never repeat the length of that first stretch.

larlemucker · 02/07/2013 03:54

Morning ladies!
We're up having a mammoth feed (can't feed from right when lying down).
Been to get weighed today, everyone keeps telling me how big he is but all my friends babies that are younger than him weigh more than he does! HV gave me some terrible advice, I asked what stage formula to give him when I go back to work for the last week of term as I can't express enough for 5 days and she said to feed him morning and night and during the day give him 3 meals of solids and water. No milk, so he would be going about 8 hours with no milk!! Think I may have to complain.Confused

Hope you are all sleeping. Good day of tennis today. Shame about Laura Robson though. All the big names are getting knocked out this year

abi2790 · 02/07/2013 07:06

Morning ladies. Ds having his first feed without biting and crying so his gums must be feeling better. Poor thing, I've never seen him like that before. Weird thing is his first set of teeth didn't seem to bother him at all.

Good newa is ds slept really well in his own room. I missed waking up to a smiley baby though.

lazzaroo · 02/07/2013 07:18

Morning. Usual shenanigans for us after 3am. So tired.

Not sure larle but I think some babies do do what your hv has suggested. Especially ebf babies that won't take a bottle...like mine! Fortunately I don't have to worry about it yet. Hv has suggested swapping a feed for yoghurt, for example, to give me more freedom & keep up dairy intake.

Anyway, I know with dd1 we used ready made cartons when she drank bits from a cup during the day as quantities were small and we were clueless about formula (still are!). But more expensive but easy peasy! Will probably do the same this time around.

larlemucker · 02/07/2013 08:12

She never asked if he will take a bottle, which he does no problem.
It's just that everything I've read says that calories come from milk until they are 1.
He has been really constipated so only on 1 meal a day. Also we are doing quite a bit of BLW now so he doesn't actually eat much just sucks the life out of it!!

lazzaroo · 02/07/2013 10:12

Sounds like pretty silly advice then. I also thought it was 'food is fun, until they are one' but when I asked h/v she said guidance always changing & now they are told main source of nutrition should be food! Confused.com. I guess they'll all be different but somehow the ratio will gradually sort itself out over the next few months. It's all so hard!

Am also a bit worried about poo situation so trying more milk, less food today.

Have a good day all

larlemucker · 02/07/2013 12:51

Lazza we found pear purée and papaya made baby larle go.

The NHS website says that they should be on 3 meals a day at 8 months. Baby larle is only 6 months.
I've also heard rumours that she is anti-breast feeding Shock
