BF Teething Baby Support Thread

DS (13 months) has his first molars coming in and I've seen the point of his canine too.

I just want to moan about how much he wants to nurse overnight for the last 6 weeks. Also, his latch is adapting and sometimes it is uncomfortable.

So grab a pew and join me in the journey of bf your teething DC.

I have a Lo with an ouchy latch at the moment. She just got her two front teeth and they are getting in the way!

Me too! 7 month old DD2 has her top front teeth emerging. Wasn't bf'ing Dd1 for this long so never experienced the delights of top teeth. No nipping yet but the latch is definitely not as comfy and she keeps sort of pulling. Ouch! Anyone have any tips?

Their latch does improve, but it takes time. I feed lying down and I have to prop my breast up sometimes to encourage his latch. I've had to bust out the lansinoh after a long period of sitting on the shelf.

I went to the breast feeding drop in earlier to see my amazing lactation consultant. She suggested exaggerated nose to nipple and flipper to get nipple firmly behind the new front teeth. It seems a little less sore.

She also told me to not feed lying down for a few days as its much harder to get a good latch in that position so might make it sore for the rest of the day.

She also suggested within two week of getting a tooth there latch should improve.

dd is 13m and teeth sprouting everywhere. i really feel for her. but... i am so sic of bf thru the night. i am shattered

feekerry I hear you. We cosleep, but DS latches on a lot with his not so great latch, cries out in his sleep, and last night needed me to take him poo at 1AM. I don't know how many times he latched on last night as I lost track.

He is napping now, after feeding to sleep, but I can't get up as he is sleeping so lightly that when I do, he will wake up. He needs the sleep and I need to do some things!

My 10 month old daughter just got both her top teeth through and think there has got to be another coming through as she seems to be in pain all the time. I'm definately with you all on the pain from the top teeth. Not only do we have to deal with the pain of teeth, but the extra long breastfeeding comfort. Normally my daughter would be rocked to tired and then go to bed awake and fall asleep on her own, now I'm breastfeeding her for almost 1 hour until she can fall asleep. I feel so bad for her, I don't have the heart to encourage different behaviour when she loves breastfeeding so much and it gives her so much comfort. I'm trying to stay strong, hopefully it will be over soon, for both her and my sake.

i have to say i hate co sleeping at the moment. dd comfort suckles all night and if i try turn over or stop her she has a melt down. she also has to constantly stroke my other boob and fiddle with it.
have to say i hit my limit last night and at half 3am i put her in her cot. she did cry for a bit but she did fall asleep till 7am so i got a whole 3 hours sleep. great.
think i might dose her up on calpol and put her in the cot tonight as co sleeping is like a method of slow torture at the moment!

So glad it is not just me suffering with poor latch when after so long we should surely know how to do this now!!!

My LO starts the night in his co sleeper & then joins me when he wakes up but no new teeth have come through for a while so I have for used to sleeping without him constantly fiddling with me & wriggling. Not looking forward to that changing!

feekerry the twiddling would drive me mad.i didn't realise the toll teething would be on me either. I'm upstairs waiting for DS to really be asleep before I can sneak back down.

It is just such a long drawn out process that we could use a break from.

I'm glad it's not just me having bf and co sleeping issues at the mo! I've been feeling guilty for thinking about moving 9mo Ds to a cot but the constant night suckling coupled with him having a hissy fit if I try to stop him latching has been driving me mad! I'm so so tired and fed up with getting nipped all the time!

I know he can't help it and this too shall pass but when?

Ooh ooh can I join! Dd is 8 mo & has had really hard gums for weeks now with no teeth yet. She's constantly biting on my nipples, which are now feeling v bruised! We also co-sleep & I think she must have fed every hour last night!

I didn't think teething was such a drawn out process. DS seems to get 4 teeth together within a few weeks of each other, so it has been a hard slog for 6 weeks or so. Last night was much better, no comfort sucking or crying. Long may it continue!

DS is 10mo, has got three new teeth AND learnt to crawl all in the past four days. No wonder he's been waking and feeding all night for about a week, and just now when I was feeding him to sleep he bit me really hard :-( I was so shocked I sort of shouted out quite loud and he stuck his bottom lip out and wailed. I feel so bad now. Am so tired I just hope tonight is better.

last night was better here too. went down at 7 and woke at 8 screaming for boob but once that was over she slept till 6.30am. one of the only times she has done this. i do think we all have good sleepers in there somewhere but are set back by constant teething!
have to say dd has never bitten me so feel sorry for those that are being bitten.
must make it even harder!!!
dd is 13m now and been bf on demand since day 1. i have done every single night since she was born. (dh does try bless)
am i horrible to secretly wish dd has a nursing strike lol??!!

Aha & it all comes clear... DH tells me he has spotted 2 more teeth coming through at the bottom..... Of course DS will not let me have a look!
Is that the reason for the hissy fit last night? The constant nighttime suckling? The terrible nappies??!
He has also learnt to walk in the last few days. Phew. So many brain & body changes going on right now!
This too shall pass :)

My little one has just started walking as well. Walking and teeth just doesn't seem to be very fair does it? Hmm

She has also been a very clingly little girl. She woke up this morning and I went to have a bath while my husband played with her and she sat there for five minutes "Mom, mum, mama, mummy" she tried every one. I keep depoisting her in front of her toys and then sitting down in a chair and she grabs one and then wanders over to be picked up and held.

Last night was an in-between night, not horrible, but not good. Hope everyone else had great nights.

I had a 3 hr gap between 2 feeds last night, other than that it was feeding hourly & dd woke up for the day at 5.30Hmm

How was everyone else's??

We had just one feed at 3:30 last night which is good going. I have to admit, I still feel tired. I used to wonder if each night was the night he would sleep through. I've given up on it now. I think I need to sleep for a whole day to catch up.

DS doesn't have much of an appetite for solids these days, so milkies it is. I've noticed that the molar on the other side at the bottom only has 2 points through. I don't think I will get much of a break until the whole tooth has broken through.

I'm on my own tonight and I'm tempted to go to bed now and not worry about any chores!

woke at 2.15am to feed and then up for the day at 5.15am. sob.
tho the last 2 nights she has gone down fully awake and fallen asleep all by herself. no doubt that will change in a few days time
its the inconsistency i find hard. every single night is different. never know what is in store.
have started clamping my hand over my other boob to stop the twiddling. it drives me insane

meh.....last night was hideous.
went down like an angel then woke at 11 (which is never a good sign) and basically cried and faffed around until 2.30am. she would fall asleep as soon as i let her suckle then scream if i put her down. did try co sleeping but she started sitting up and playing and laughing and pointing at my face/ears.
i did try leaving her to cry (not my thing but thought i would try) and this actually made it 10x worse as made her super clingy.
so back tonight to feeding on demand throughout the night for an easy life.
god. wish someone could tell me what this will eventually get better and dd may actually give up the boob at some point in her life lol!!

Feekerry, my DS woke at 9, then 11 last night too, again at 2:30, on and off until 5:30 when we started the day, my birthday! Hurrah! We plan to go out tonight even though I'd rather stay in bed.

DS has been grumpy today too. Crying when I stop him ripping up the books or climb the stairs with an apple and a yoghurt pot in his hands. He's napping now.

I hope he doesn't wake up when the baby sitter is here. She doesn't stand a chance of settling him.

I can't imagine a life without these miserable teeth coming through. But one day it will end.
