funch we did the same to baby small and he cried for an hour the first night of no bottle. The second night he woke but no crying just straight back to sleep with me sat by his cot. Last night was night three he woke and I went in and popped his dummy in and left and him and heard nothing until 6.45 so I'd say if you do it nice and slowly like you are she might not mind too much.
So now he doesn't feed at night I'm much less tired because its literally up then straight back to bed.
Good luck at support group mrsn
Have a good day all

MrsNPattz · 02/04/2013 09:05

Well we did get more sleep, snuggled up together until I got up at 8 and little man slept until 8:45!

WW soon, hubby is off work ill - full of cold. He does my head in when he's ill, must he must be if he's not gone in so I might be a bit more sympathetic today!!

SoYo · 02/04/2013 09:07

Miss Madam had another feed at 6-6.45 then wouldn't settle. I brought her into bed with me & she slept first on my chest then next to me until 9 & i snoozed on & off! I'm thrilled as that replaces my usual morning nap. Fingers crossed for the rest of the day! Grin

larlemucker · 02/04/2013 09:45

Busy on here last night. Phone was dead so couldn't post.
Up every hour to feed last night, totally knackered and feel like crap.
Jabs today too, not looking forward to today HmmHmm

MrsNPattz · 02/04/2013 10:06

More hugs Larle - good luck with jabs! Do you have a lot of support at home?

I stayed the same at WW, I'm always disappointed when it's not a loss but as I'm at goal it's not really a big deal!

geekette · 02/04/2013 10:45

oh larle! I have had nights like that! they are dreadful. hopefully tonight will be different.

over here mini geek is just rousing from a nap after a night of multiple wakings...

oh well.

does anyone else's baby CIO all by themselves? sometime she just won't settle and prefers to cry to sleep.. Hmm Angry

larlemucker · 02/04/2013 11:11

MrsN DH is at work, my mum passed away 5 years ago, my dad has Parkinson's, my FIL passed away 3 years ago and my sister works abroad. Only help is my MIL but she wouldn't come here, I'd have to go through to her (and I can't be arsed)
So no, no help! God writing that has made me feel even more depressed.

Sorry very me,me,me.

Welcome to the newbies

MrsNPattz · 02/04/2013 12:11

Oh no sorry I made you feel worse Larle Sad I think you need a cuppa and a biscuit!

larlemucker · 02/04/2013 12:25

You didn't make me feel worse MrsN don't worry.
Got a cadburys caramel in the cupboard, WW going out the window

abi2790 · 02/04/2013 15:19

Well think we may have found the problem with ds :) took him to get weighed today and he's 16 lbs 4 but he was 15lbs 10 three weeks ago so he's dropped quite a bit. He's on the 91st centile so he's a big boy. HV thinks it might be a good idea to start solids in a couple of weeks but he's only 4 months and can't hold his head up without support yet. What does everyone think? Is it better to wait until he's around 6 months or cos he's waking up a lot more and obviously isn't getting enough from my milk alone is it better to start BLW now?

larlemucker · 02/04/2013 15:33

Didn't think you could start BLW until they could sit up unaided

BrainGoneAwol · 02/04/2013 18:39

All the books say to wait with blw until they can sit. It's dangerous to do it before as they need to be able to spit out bits of food if when they choke. If they are slumped then it's much harder for them to push bits out of their mouths and obviously you shouldn't try to hook bits out unless they are right at the edge as you can push them further in.

And they will choke a lot until they get the hang of chewing before swallowing!

Maybe your hv was thinking of purees?

I thought it was a myth that bm wasn't sufficient up to 6 months?

EeyoresGloomyPlace · 02/04/2013 19:07

More hugs larle Thanks

abi definitely blw at 6 months for the reasons brain says above. Also there are far more calories in milk than in a bit of puréed carrot so the best way to get weight on at such a young age is to increase milk feeds. It seems a lot if HVs are still giving very old fashioned advice despite all the modern evidence to the contrary. Hope you can find a solution that works for you.

Bedtime feed here, had a lovely morning with goat and both funches (thank you for the cake :) ) then afternoon painting with babylump making DM's birthday card, felt a bit like we were missing dd1 who was at CMs as babylump would have been just as happy eating the paint than painting with it but DM liked the resulting mess card so that's the main thing.

Check in in the small hours I expect. Good luck and good sleeps all xx

MrsNPattz · 02/04/2013 19:56

Little man took a bottle tonight, it was lovely peeking through the door and seeing hubby feeding him but I also felt a little sad. It was ebm so don't know why, I think I just love our feeding bond. We are going to give him his bedtime feed this way now as if I get the job as a WW leader I will need to go away for training. It also means hubby is involved. So far the new bedtime routine has gone well, bath at 6:45, into pjs then fed and fell asleep, then successful transfer. I'm just not sure what to do if he wakes after half an hour!

Larle mmmm caramel, I had a 19 point bag of maltesers today Blush hope you are feeling better!

BLW should definitely be started at 6 months or after!

I have been trying to work on my presentation for my interview today. What do they actually mean by presentation? Do I need visuals? Can I read from cards?

Oh bugger he has woken!! Trying a feed first, then I don't know what to do if he doesn't go straight back to sleep.

Babybeesmama · 02/04/2013 20:42

Hope he's gone back to sleep mrsn! Brilliant that he's taken ebm! Totally understandable that you feel a bit :( I can remember feeling like a spare part once bb took a bottle!

I did part 2 of c25k today, with the buggy. It was actually ok, my legs ache a bit tho! We are watching bedtime live!

I am a bit :( as since babybee was poorly last week weaning is so not going well, he's sick loads, can't take anything but really smooth purees. He keeps nicking finger food but just chokes and is sick. DH says I shouldn't worry & should just take things slow but I'm a mum we always worry dont we!?

Goat - did you take kid to gp? Did they have any helpful sleep advice?

Larle hope you enjoying your caramel Grin x

abi2790 · 02/04/2013 21:05

Thanks for reassuring me everyone :) My bm is sufficient for him I think he's getting ready for solids in the near future iykwim? Luckily he's getting close to sitting up so if he drops any more then it shouldn't be much longer until he can start blw. He has gained a LOT of weight since birth and maybe that's why it seems as though his weight gain is slowing down so much. I know he's fine though he just seems to be a very hungry baby like when he was a newborn. Should I try anything else to fill his hungry belly?

larlemucker · 02/04/2013 21:28

Caramel was lovely!

Totally knackered but don't feel like I'm going to cry every 5 mins now so feeling better. Fingers crossed we have a better night.

I would try to have something visual for the presentation like a poster or something. Cards are fine but use them as a prompt, don't read from them. I would think they want to make sure you can stand up infront of people and speak. What are you doing the presentation about?

geekette · 02/04/2013 21:44

abi, I would up the number of times I offered milk feeds if I were concerned but I don't really see a reason to be concerned here.

other foods won't really make a difference for a few weeks anyway.

definitely no blw till 6 months! you'll see how much they gag when you start. and be warned, lo won't eat much in the beginning. they just kind of play with it. quite sweet really.

Babybeesmama · 02/04/2013 22:12

We are doing CC tonight :( its been horrible. Done checks/cuddle at 2,4,8,16,16 mins - he's just settled down but its been harder than I thought. X

larlemucker · 03/04/2013 00:40

Up for first feed, can hardly keep eyes open.
Good luck with CC amey

SoYo · 03/04/2013 00:55

Hi Larle, first feed here too. DH was sleeping in here with her for th first portion f the night while I got a couple of solid hrs in but he didn't wake me until she was full on wailing which usually results in a much harder to settle after feed baby than if you catch her on just stirring....oh well, at least I slept for nearly 3hrs!

peanutMD · 03/04/2013 01:23

We're checking in too!

First feed of the night, I went to bed at 9pm though so did have a few hours Kip :)

How was everyones day?

MrsNPattz · 03/04/2013 01:35

First feed here, I went to bed at 9 so have had 4 hours.

Good luck with CC Amey, we are all behind you!

Larle glad you are feeling a bit better. The presentation is about something I feel passionate about/something inspiring so I am talking about WW and the effect on emotional wellbeing.

SoYo · 03/04/2013 03:03

Second feed here. She did wake up 30 & 60 mins after last feed but I ignored her & she settled again. Struggling to keep my eyes open now so fingers crossed for couple more hours.

We survived our first daddy-free day today with the aid of our dog walker who tired the PuppyMonster out & a well timed chest nap from Miss Madam. Hoping for more of the same today except we're walking pooch so that'll be more of a challenge!

SoYo · 03/04/2013 03:16

I've just realised its an hour earlier than I thought it was. Rubbish. Plus she's not settling with this feed. Could be a long night! [buconfused]
