Open/Closed systems - Brest pumps

So I'm looking for an electric breast pump and see the medela swing comes highly recommended. They sell heaps cheaper on eBay, but someone on here has advised me that it's an open system meaning you can't sterilise the inside and some milk can get into the inside meaning you end up with old milk in them..bleurgh! Not nice to buy second hand and maybe that's why they're cheaper?!

Is there a way to get around this or is there a breast pump out there that is closed already. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and can advise me?!

Avent is good, you sterilize all parts that come in contact with milk, so no worries there. fab to use, easy to assemble.
plug it in your power socket with adapter included,
it either comes with battery pack or you can purchase this separately (depends where you buy it from or which pack, so do check this!) so you can take it wherever you want

comes with variable pump setting and can be used as a manual pump!

they are about £100 quid new, I bought mine 2nd had on Ebay for £20 (inc p&p)

I've just posted on the other thread, but yes, I found that milk did go up the tubing with the Swing, whereas the Avent one I linked to is a sealed system, so all squeaky clean.

Try the ameda lactaline. It's a closed system, you can use it as a single or double pump and worked very, very well for me.

So could I keep my eye out for a Lactaline on eBay, I could clean, sterilise it all properly?!

Is it a silly purchase before I have the baby or should I see how I get on and then get one if I still want one? Or good to have one ready?

I'm very much in the camp of only buying baby equipment as and when you need it but I did buy a few things before having dc2 and one was the lactaline but I dd get it for £10! I'd used the tt hand pump with dc1 and for me it was so hopeless just gave up on expressing.

The other things I bought were a sling, really wish I'd had one with dc1 and it was a godsend. Could do loads with DS and dd was happy sleeping in the sling at play group etc.

Also bought a tummy tub as DS was seriously scared of the big bath and I bought Babycalming by Caroline Deacon. So glad I did. Dd was such a chilled baby and I think it was partly due to this book. Again, really with I'd had it with dc1.
