A brand spanking new thread for midnight ramblings, chocolate covered pretzels and so much more Grin

Naps here are utterly chaotic. We don't have any settled morning routine though the recent pattern has been that I sit up in bed with her 2-4am, she wakes again around 5am and DH gets up then and takes her downstairs where she may or may not sleep for another hour and/or take a bottle. He brings her back up around 6:30 and I have her in bed feeding lying down and we both doze between relatchings. Then it depends what time I wake up...generally between 8 and 10:30 [lazy shameful slattern emoticon]. if we are up early she naps for an hour mid morning, otherwise straight to a lunchtime nap of 1 to 3 hours, which sometimes morphs into her longest sleep of the 24 hours, lasting til 6 or 7pm.

Often we are out either am or PM and she sleeps in the car or sling on the way, and sometimes stays asleep 2 to 3 hours. She gets too much daytime sleep and hence the 2-4am wakefulness. The good thing is she is never really grizzly as she has always had lots of sleep. She only really cries for food, which is easy enough to fix - the wonders of demand feeding!

I am about to stop going out so much and stay home to try and focus on getting the naps right so the nighttimes improve.

As I say, it is chaos! Grin

funchum8am · 29/11/2012 21:27

mrsn good luck at the pharmacy - I hope they can give you something bf friendly.

blonderthanred · 29/11/2012 22:17

Oh wow funch that sounds almost exactly like us! I am amazed. I was thinking exactly the same re daytime naps. In the early days he used to have a good sleep in his cot from 6-9am so now I keep falling into the trap of staying in bed in the morning in the hope that he will fall back to sleep - obviously I have the luxury of no other DCs or commitments to get up for so I will join you in the slattern emoticon.

This morning I made myself get up, dressed etc at 9 so when he did have a mid-morning feed and fall asleep it was a proper nap rather than an extension of the night-time. It worked really well and I started to get a picture of how life might look in the coming weeks/ months/dim & distant future. It made me resolve to be a bit more selfish about visitors/plans etc so we can focus on the naps and give DS a chance to find his own routine.

Ameybee · 29/11/2012 23:31

Well first feed since just before 7 here, would love to think it will see us through till 3 but I doubt it!!!
mrsn usually baby bee settles anywhere between 8-10pm but tonight he went down at 1850!! I am now petrified he will be awake at 4am or something Shock! He's falling asleep feeding at mo but we all know that means nothing! Only transfer shall tell! We worked out he'd had about 2 hours sleep during day which is nothing so lets see! X

funchum8am · 29/11/2012 23:39

glad I am not alone blonder! I had a lovely lazy day with no going out other than a walk when it was best for babyfunch and I really enjoyed it so hopefully it will be nice staying in and I won't go mad....

Feeding again here and yet again hoping for a 3 hour stretch or more....good luck everyone Smile

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 29/11/2012 23:44

Hi all, I've missed a few pages will try to catch up tonight. Hope mums & babies are well. We had quite a good night last night, bed at half 12, wake for feed at half 3 then down again until 8. I tried to post at the half 3 feed but got attack of the stingy eyes so gave up trying to type anything.

We also don't really have a routine as such, babylump usually just has to tag Ali g with DD1s routine, just with added bf and extra sleep. She's only 8 weeks so I'm way off from thinking about trying to get anything more structured going, and tbh I'm a disorganised wreck not really a rigid routines person anyway so as long as she gets enough food and sleep I don't mind too much on the timings (although daytime food and nighttime sleep definitely preferred!).

She's wide awake now which is a bit :( as I was hoping her bath would have set her up for a good feed and sleep but no such luck. I'm watching 'pregnant in heels' on sky, its making me Shock has anyone else ever watched it?

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 29/11/2012 23:46

Tag Ali G??! Tag along... Ali G definitely not a regular feature of our routine!

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 30/11/2012 01:00

Oh I'm fed up now, babylump was nicely asleep so successful transfer and brought her upstairs to bed, got nice and warm under my duvet and she stared snuffling a bit but I didn't worry as she never wakes up at the 1am transfer, then DD1 wakes up and within a minute so does DD2 :( :(

It's bloody freezing up here and in DD1s room (both rooms are in the old loft so we are a bit exposed) but the girls are wrapped up snugly so I did t think it would be a problem but DH reckons it is. Might have to go & get an electric heater tomorrow.

Looks quiet tonight so far, hope the sleepy mice have been visiting you all.

Smallgreenone · 30/11/2012 01:22

Ugh we're on two hourly wakings here since 7, hope he changes for the rest of the night.
Glad no one else gets the nap thing either Grin! It's so hard! Not enough sleep, too much sleep, overtired etc etc. DS is 13 weeks now and I'm still as clueless as when he was a newborn!

Goatbongosanonymous · 30/11/2012 01:25

So snuffly here that he can't take a proper feed, so is waking frequently to have a nibble. And is regally ensconced in the car seat, as lying down flat just sends him into a tailspin. Well, has worked so far - I was really thinking that I would get no sleep, but he has nodded off promptly in between his snacks...
Hope your eyes are improving mrsn - that sounds painful!
Nice to see you again tea and at such a civilised hour... Your tea and crumpets did make me a bit Envy !
funch your day actually sounds lovely, and you can always pop out for a custard tart... Good luck for tonight!
What's 'pregnant in heels' heff ? (other than quite painful-sounding!)

Runningblue · 30/11/2012 01:43

Hello all, can I join up? I've done it before but I'm revisiting the baptism of fire that is having a newborn. Night 3 and let's say I might be awake sometime...! I never got the hang of lying down when feeding, so I have a comfy poang chair, the heating on, a flask of tea and almost a odds on bet for little to nowt sleep...
So do I qualify?!
A question for anyone awake at the mo- we had a summer baby first time around and am fiinding it tricky to know how many layers to put on in bed. What is your baby wearing in their crib, and how many layers of sheet/ blanket? I want to use a grobag but think she's a bit little yet ...

Ameybee · 30/11/2012 02:01

GrinGrin At Ali g heff hilarious!!

Congrats on baby running I remember those first 3 nights just accepting no sleep would be had! I put DS in vest, baby gro then double layer of blankets (this was 10 weeks a go tho) I think you can use a gro bag when they are over 8lbs. How old is your other DC? Ours is 3 x

funchum8am · 30/11/2012 02:14

Welcome running! congratulations on your new arrival Smile
We used different blankets every night and obsessively checked DD's temperature but it was usually vest, babygro and 1-2 layers. This was 8 weeks ago. When she hit 8lb we started using grobags. She always seems warmer than I expect her to be!

Feeding again here....trying lying down for this feed in the hope transfer will be easier afterwards....

heff Grin Grin at Ali G (isn't Staines quite near you??!)

Sorry not to namecheck fully - this new app won't show you the thread, only the box you are replying in Sad

Runningblue · 30/11/2012 02:50

Good morning(urghh Hmm) ta for the welcome! And apols in advance for pants one handed typing.
Well, we've decided that only mummy will do. DH tried to settle her but after a feverish chew at his dressing gown chest, we're back at base aka the poang chair. With a a sleeping baby, a fifth poo in 3 hours, and dead cert for an angry little cry when I change her. And then as the song goes... Let's go round again!

I think my mindset is going to be better if any sleep at all is a bonus tonight.... And hey it's only 4 hours or so til DS wakes up! He is 3 too

Thanks for the advice on bedding- new dd was a porky 8lb 13 oz so maybe I'll be treating us to some winter grobags- I have them in a portfolio of colours and ages from DS, but all for the opposite times of year!! I'm onto it tomorrow.

Just eaten my third tracker bar and another red bush tea. Might start on a bit of iplayer soon... Positive thoughts etc etcGrin

Goatbongosanonymous · 30/11/2012 02:57

Hello running congrats on the new arrival! Hope you settle into some sleep soon!
Another nibble going on here. He is however still sleeping quite well in between, if loudly.
I just had one of those narrative dreams that have a beginning, middle and end. I still feel a bit befuzzled.

Susieloo · 30/11/2012 03:11

Hello runningSmile

We are on third wake up which I was not expecting after my recent good run.

He is watching the cow jump over the moon so will hopefully nod off, doubt we will make it to six.

Eyes hurt so will come back to post about naps and bedding.

Runningblue · 30/11/2012 03:18

Hello goat and susie.. It's a lovely feeling knowing its not just you...

Have now banished DH downstairs. I need him to do the day shift with DS!!

Dd asleep tucked in blanket- new tactic. Over to transfer to crib. Fingers crossed?
So tempted to try a lie down feed but nursing my nipples after a few bad latches. I don't seem to have the right angle of dangle for laying down!

Smallgreenone · 30/11/2012 03:30

Still on two hourly wakings Sad have now got him in bed with me so hoping it makes a difference.
Welcome running

Runningblue · 30/11/2012 03:39

Hello greeny
A week ago 2 hourly wakings would have sounded hell ... But tonight I am positively envious!! But it sounds v grotty, how old is your baby?

funchum8am · 30/11/2012 04:21

Feeding again here too Sad. Slightly better than normal though as she fed. 2-3 but then slept 3-3.40 rather than staying awake til 4. Lightshow kept her quiet for a bit when she woke but eventually the limb flailing and crying began so I am trying a quick feed but she seems fully alert still. Doh.

Jabs tomorrow - maybe they will make her sleepy (hopeful emoticon).

Good luck to those who are also up!

missingmymarbles · 30/11/2012 04:22

Hi RunningSmile

It's freezing in Missmarbles room too, HeffSad and was just wondering if that was why we are up again. She had a feed just after 2. Had a transfer failure then settled from about half past but only til 3.40. When I've fed her she wasn't that interested. We've had two transfer failures this time and now she's zonked in my arms. I want to go back to bed but am dreading another transfer failure. She has a vest, a babygro, a wadded sleeper and a blanket tonight because its do cold and having a feel if her chest I would say she is just right. Last night, (first night in wadded sleeper) we omitted the vest and she felt a bit cool. Her room wasn't quite as cold as tonight either. Definitely young to get a wee heater I think.

Ameybee · 30/11/2012 04:27

DS always use to fall asleep at 5am in those early days running so maybe you will get some sleep then!!

We are up again Confused DS is really snuffly bless him, it sounds like he's swallowing it all the time and makes him gag, poor thing. I don't think he's waking for feeds but I keep feeding anyway as it seems to clear his nose. Tired now Sad.
Getting Xmas tree out loft Tomo as DD and me are decorating it on Saturday, she's so excited bless her! Xx

missingmymarbles · 30/11/2012 04:33

Transfer failure. Again. Now co-sleeping because I am cold and tiredSad She fell asleep as soon as I lifted her and opened her eyes as soon as I put her down. When is it going to get better?? It doesn't bother me do much during the day, but I really struggle with the fact we are still not sleeping through in the middle of the nightSad

Smallgreenone · 30/11/2012 04:54

He's 13 weeks running! Am sure there is something not right surely he should be going longer. marbles I feel the same it's not so bad in the day but I just can't cope at night. DH is also way this weekend which means I won't even have any rest when normally he will take him in the early morning so I can at least have some sleep. Sad

Velo · 30/11/2012 05:43

Just spent hour and a half trying to get breast pump assembled and working. I will not be defeated.
