A brand spanking new thread for midnight ramblings, chocolate covered pretzels and so much more Grin

Hope mini marbles gets well soon marbles.
2nd feed here so doing really well. I'm still shattered though even though I've had sleep, how long does it take for your body to get back to normal?!
Hi blonder lots of us do have a Ewan, I think he's marvellous although very occasionally he does go on strike!
I've started my Christmas shopping tonight! At least night feeds are productive!!
Anyone got special weekends planned?

blonderthanred · 17/11/2012 05:14

Wow smallgreen that is very productive of you! What a good idea.

DS still won't settle apart from in my arms. DH has taken him so I can try and have a doze but will I ever get him to sleep in the bednest again?

Ameybee · 17/11/2012 05:18

All gone tits up here after his mammoth 5 hour - now seen every hour since 2am! Sometimes I can't quite work out why he's waking up n I wonder if it is actually for food?!? I'm tired :( x

blonderthanred · 17/11/2012 05:27

Poor you Amey, I feel your pain.

Twobuttonsaway · 17/11/2012 06:19

Amey surely must be a growth spurt, and therefore hopefully will pass really soon! If I were you I would go straight to bed today as soon as LO conks out!

Smallgreen excellent idea re Xmas shopping! I highly recommend the John Lewis website for when you run out of ideas for what to get people (which I do a lot!)

Baby buttons had an evening of cluster feeding. But conked out at 9:45 so I was in bed by 10:15 and he slept until 02:30 and was back asleep by 03:00 - good boy - though suspect this will be short lived given 6 week growth spurt due next week!

Hope you all have a good weekend, we have good friends coming on Sunday for roast dinner - yummy - and bf is good excuse for massive roast potato consumption Smile

Ameybee · 17/11/2012 06:36

Up again :( he is actually properly feeding this time too! Hoping he goes back down for at least another hour! I was actually quite glad he woke up this time - was having a nightmare that I was on the run with my brothers from some gang & we had all split up n I'd gone to Blackpool! Weird.....

Smallgreenone · 17/11/2012 06:41

Mmmmmm roast potatoes buttons! I too am a big John lewis fan! I am always using click and collect at waitrose as our nearest John lewis is a good hour away but it's so easy online when you can just pick up from the supermarket.
Baby small only managed an hour and a half after the last put down. I think I might just let him snooze on me now, he gets harder and harder to put down the more the night goes on and it's practically getting up time now anyway. Hope there were some good sleeps out there

Ameybee · 17/11/2012 07:05

Question! Those of you with 8 week olds (or thereabouts) how long do they bf for? Baby bee only ever does about 10 mins, and on one side. Only in evening when cluster feeding does he just completly drain both. Every night seems to be similar - big stretch early on then random short feeding/sleeping every 45mins to hour! Even if he did 2 hourly after big stretch I could cope but I feel so knackered in wee hours! Xx

Smicha · 17/11/2012 07:27

Amey my ds is almost 8 weeks and feed times have dropped to around 12 mins (i time them on my phone, that's why so precise!) I think they just become more efficient at feeding. He can still do a 25 min feed, and that's usually early evening time. I always try and get him to take more at night and find if I've had to change a nappy he wakes up more and will feed again before going back to bed. We rarely go beyond 2 hours between feeds, but that's better than it used to be!!

I must start Christmas shopping soon! We are seeing some family on the 15th so have to have presents ready to take with us then Shock

MrsNPattz · 17/11/2012 08:04

I think that's us up for the day after one feed during the night which is usual for us (at the moment!).

Amey yep my little man is 9 weeks tomorrow and does about 10 mins on one boob.

blonder yes most of the time Ewan works for us (hope I haven't jinxed it!) so I would definitely recommend.

We are off to town today - passport pictures and Yo Sushi.

Have good Saturdays everyone Smile

MrsNPattz · 17/11/2012 15:30

I have reached a new low today - I let a bunch of 11 year old girls make me cry Confused we were in getting little ones passport pictures and they were in getting a photo shoot for someone's birthday and we heard them saying 'look at the little baby' and then saying 'I don't like little boys' and that just set me off!! All I could think was how dare they say that about my beautiful baby boy - how ridiculous am I. Hubby told me to get a grip but every time I thought about it I started crying again Confused just breaks my heart anything bad towards him. I'm still feeling rubbish like yesterday so I'm obviously highly sensitive and emotional at the moment! Anyway just came on to get that all out. Feel better now lol Grin

HeffalumpsAndWoozles · 17/11/2012 17:44

Oh mrsn for you today, its just impossible not to be upset by anything however small against your LO isn't it. You're not being silly and you don't need to get a grip, its just totally natural maternal emotions running a bit riot because you've been feeling low already. Give DS a big cuddle and forget what you heard earlier, logically you know 11year old girls are never the most sensitive or thoughtful especially if they don't know you or DS, but that doesn't make your feelings invalid.

Really hope you can get a bit of rest in and just enjoy being with your LO, forget what they said and just continue being a fantastic mum to your lovely little boy.

Susieloo · 17/11/2012 17:48

I totally know how you feel mrsn, we were with family and friends last night and babyloo kept smiling at someone and because they were busy they weren't really interacting with him and I felt like he was trying so hard and normally when people see him smile they talk to him and smile back and he has this little confused look on his face and it bought tears to my eyes!! As a result of being away and travelling etc babyloo has slept for less than an hour today so we are upstairs doing last feed now. He slept quite well in a different environment so I'm really pleased that I bought a travel cot with a mattress because I think that helped. I unfortunately couldn't sleep between the half one feed until about four this morning and then we were up again at half five till six so feel knackered, early bed for me later, will have a read through the thread at first feed to catch up with everyone, have a good night everyoneSmile

Smallgreenone · 17/11/2012 18:15

I know how you feel too mrsn!!! Just that maternal instinct kicking in.
Baby small has been wonderful today and so smily and happy until sort of nowish as he's tired but we've had a really good day Smile I hope we haven't used up all our good baby tokens and are in for a rubbish night!

Susieloo · 17/11/2012 19:05

Babyloo has woken up twice really crying and I don't know whySadhe's a bit snuffly but is feeding ok so I'm not sure what's wrong, I'm sure he has bad dreams sometimes, not even sure that's possible at his age. Attempting transfer.....

MrsNPattz · 17/11/2012 20:17

Thanks guys! Just what I didn't need - hubby dropped a tub of Vaseline on little man'a head Sad was an accident of course and I felt so sorry for hubby, little man was screaming, I was crying. He seems ok now though (both of them). I feel so exhausted - I think that's the problem.

Anyway, enough of my self indulgent ramblings. I hope everyone else is doing ok and have had good days.

susie I hope the transfer went well! I'm sure my little man dreams so nightmares may be possible!

Smicha · 17/11/2012 20:21

MrsN sometimes I look at ds and cry when I think of what the world has in store for him and the things that could hurt him and how I'd do anything at all to protect him! I also look at him and wonder how anyone could hurt a baby and then that makes me cry too. Bloomin' hormones!! He's fast asleep on my knee at the moment and just looking at his perfect little face also makes me want to cry with love Blush So you are definitely not alone!

MrsNPattz · 17/11/2012 20:27

I get what you mean about wanting to cry with love smicha - it's overwhelming.

Ameybee · 17/11/2012 21:39

I totally get the crying too! I have to say with my 1st I didn't realise how overwhelmed by how much I felt for one tiny person! It was overwhelming in itself! I have no idea how anyone can hurt children, but sadly I have been involved in many many cases at work where people do & when I think about them now it makes me so sad. Children are such a gift & some people just don't deserve them!

On a lighter note! We had a nice afternoon at friends as their DD had a princess party! Our DD had a fab time n looked so cute dancing around! She was shattered tonight. Still trying to get baby bee down - wish me luck! Xxxx

daisychain76 · 17/11/2012 22:22

Lovely way of putting it smicha. Have to warn you mrsn that the feeling never really goes away as a mum. My DS is 8 and l was devastated when l heard that ann older boy at school had called him a looser (and don?t even get me started. on party invites).

Had a 2 hour stretch last night thanks to a formula top up after ebm plus a warmer room. Tryinng a gro snuggle as well tonight. Hope its a good one for us all.

Smicha · 17/11/2012 22:23

Just re-read my last post! Blush In RL I never show my emotions like that! This being a mother thing has changed me! Smile

Went for a long walk with ds in the sling on dh today and all the fresh air must have tired ds out as he's been asleep most of the day since then...aside from the usual 5pm tantrum! I've come to bed and left him asleep with dh on the sofa...considered waking him for the 10pm feed but have decided to leave him and maybe get a tiny bit of sleep before he wakes... Off to try that now but think he will most likely have other ideas!

funchum8am · 17/11/2012 22:51

I know what you mean about feeling utterly floored with love...I keep having awful imaged pop into my head of accidents that could happen, especially re falling downstairs while carrying DD or being run over with her. I have to just push them away or I would never do anything!

Night 2 in the bedside cot - last night was good as I never had to get out of bed to feed. There is still a transfer issue to an extent as to feed her lying down I still have to bring her over to my bit of the bed but I do think it is going to help me get more sleep. Like you amey and smicha I am up every 2 hours, often more. She does a long stretch of sleep but it is too early, and is over by midnight annoyingly. If you find out how to get a baby to know when nighttime is please do let me know!

Happy sleeping everyone....

blonderthanred · 18/11/2012 00:46

Yep, another overwhelmed new mum here too - with love and just generally. I didn't realise how much it would change how I respond to stories about children, I was a puddle during cin last night.

I've been reading the thread in Parenting about putting babies to bed at 7pm. We are nowhere near that yet. DS has a feeding frenzy till at least 1am usually so I don't even attempt bed, I send DH up early so he gets a good block of uninterrupted sleep while I sit up with DS watching tv etc. Maybe that's crazy but it has mostly worked for us so far. I've always been more of a night owl and DH is an early bird anyway.

We've had several feeds since 8 but not quite so manic or non-stop as usual. Dare I hope that we are starting to move on to a new stage or does it just mean he won't sleep well the rest of tonight? I'd love it if he had feeds at regular intervals and slept in the cot in between but I think we are a way off that yet.

Susieloo · 18/11/2012 01:24

2nd feed of the night so I'm really hoping he will go through until half five but we seem to have gone a little bit backwards tonight so maybe the last three nights were a fluke!!

I'm the same fun, I see danger everywhere particularly when I'm walking the pram, I was quite irrational around fireworks night and kept thinking a firework was going to come through the closed bedroom window!!!

Attempting transfer.......

missingmymarbles · 18/11/2012 01:36

I still feel overwhelmed by live for both my kids, even after 7 years, so it's not just new mums, but u do remember realising that the world would never be the same again, after DD2 was bornSmile

First feed here, but she took til 9ish to settle. The 45 minute intruder managed to intrude twice this evening, and she'd been a bit overstimulated by our guests hyperactive kids at tea time. Last night she slept from me feeding her about this time to just gone 7.30, so let's hope it was the start if a habit and we are getting it more established tonight Wink I took her to the walk-in clinic today, just to be reassured as I thought that it is just a vital cold and not a chest infection, and thankfully I was. I think she is starting to improve a bit this eveningSmile

The thread is quiet tonight. Hopefully everyone is sleeping well.
