Susieloo · 16/10/2012 23:30

Lots of awake babies today for everyone. Hope you all manage to get some sleep eventually.

clums babyloo had a really unsettled night after his jabs, well done on giving calpol, I managed to get it everywhere but his mouth when I tried to give him some after his jabs. Babyloo was pretty much back to normal the day after.

Well we have been in bed since half seven and he's just stirring now, after the failure of the last two gro bags I have bought him a mothercare 2.5 tog babygro which may be why he's slept better than the last few nights because he's warm, they are size 3-6 and he is too big for them really because he's a chumbawumba at 3 months so I'm going to stretch them tomorrow. He's not woken up yet so going to attempt some more zzzzzzz before he does.

See you all through the night Smile

Oh and Shaun's arrived!!! Haven't had to use him yet but he's ready to go!!

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 17/10/2012 00:18

Sorry to hear lots of stressed mummies today. Brew & for all.

We've just got back from visiting my grandad, he has diabetes and isn't very good at managing it so often has a hypo in the evening which is quite worrying, tonight he called saying he was feeling ill again so we walked down the road and spent a couple of hours there. I was hoping that babylump would fall asleep on the way home and stay asleep but no such luck, we got home and as soon as I put the carrycot down her little eyes popped open so we're now watching rubbish tv and trying to feed to sleep, which isn't turning out too successfully either. Ewan was unfortunately met with indifference from babylump but will try again later.

BabylonPI · 17/10/2012 00:19

God bless Ewan and nelsons teething granules Grin

Smallgreenone · 17/10/2012 00:25

Hi all, tears in this house tonight too! It does make you feel better that others are in the same boat but I'm wishing us all a good night. Baby small was awake from 3 until 9 this evening and we're up again now. I also have chronic pain in my jaw, think its wisdom teeth, I couldn't eat pasta even as cant chew. I am STARVING. Will have to see if dentist can squeeze me in tomorrow for an appointment- hope I can take something that won't interfere with bfing otherwise poor baby small will have to be put on formula Sad.
Also watched downton abbey this afternoon, not sure if anyone is watching that but it was so so sad.
On a positive side I have ordered my boots! Not the ones I thought I wanted, changed me mind, but some others that i saw in a shop today. They were sold out of my size but are on order Smile. They are quite sensible for me but perfect for pram pushing and lovely cosy and warm.
Hope everyone has a good night..........

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 17/10/2012 00:36

small I was in floods at Downton this week, and last week's Ethel/her son storyline, oh my gosh so many tears :(

Has anyone else gone through the stage of early evening deep sleep followed by late evening wide awareness/unsettled/crying? This is the third night that babylump has slept from 7 ish til around 11 then been up and fractious for a few hours before I can settle her again. Everyone else has gone to bed and if it wasn't for you ladies keeping me company I'd be very lonely!

HorridHeffalumpsWickedWoozles · 17/10/2012 00:37

Awareness = awakeness

iPhone telling me off for making up words...

funchum8am · 17/10/2012 00:48

I'm a bit behind the game with babyfunch being younger than many of the babies on here (2 wks on Thu) so not had some of the issues yet eg teething, jabs etc. So I have no useful advice but lots of sympathy!

Babyfunch slept from 10 to now so not bad - being a bit fussy about latching on but settling to a feed now.

I managed to.sleep after a bit of pondering the work situation - think.I will ring my boss tomorrow and get her side of things so I am fully informed. Then I need to accept that I'm on leave and she will handle it without me, though I am sure she will listen to my suggestions on what I would do if I were there. Hey ho.

Here's to better sleep from all our babies from now on.

Susieloo · 17/10/2012 01:14

1st feed of the night-woop woop!!!!!!! That's more like itGrin

heff yes to the deep sleep then difficulty in settling etc, remind me how old baby heff is again.

fun it is hard re work issues when your on leave, I've been off since june and had to hand over a caseload and I still email my colleagues to find out what's been happening, I met two of them for lunch today and the first half an hour was all catching up me telling them what to do with my cases

How's minpop doing? Hope the x rays are going to help find out whats going on for you on Thursday.

Baby tea rolled overSmile I'm half excited half dreading this!

Well so far I'm loving the duvet babygro, dp has also said he will take babyloo downstairs when he wakes up in the morning so I can hopefully go back to sleep.

Would love to think we will go through until four now but that may be too much to hope for!!

Susieloo · 17/10/2012 01:15

And I was quite hysterical watching downton small*!!!

Goatbongosanonymous · 17/10/2012 01:32

Hello everyone, sounds lke a few disturbed evening/nights - we are in the same boat, as Kid just wouldn't settle for hours. DH had him, I had him, we fed/didn't feed, Ewaned/didn't Ewan, rocked, sang, patted, ignored... Why are we shattered and he isn't?! And yes heffalump I find this a bit of a pattern, that he sleeps well in the early evening, even if I try and keep him awake a bit longer so that he sleeps later.

Lois ouch about the poonami and no change of clothes. I learned about carrying the full change when Kid did the most spectacular vomit over himself and I had nothing with me. Fortunately a couple if other mums lent me stuff - he ended up looking like a slightly seedy Olympic weightlifter!

smicha your snack at least sounds harmonious!

funch did it feel odd having your pre-maternity leave life pop up like that? I hope it resolves itself, maybe if he bothered letting you know he doesn't want to burn all his bridges yet.

clums jabs aren't fun for mummies either are they, watching poor LOs in pain Sad Kid has his second lot tomorrow. Mums of low birth weight babies, did you give calpol or just wait any effects out? I don't think I can dose him yet.

mrsn I agree that this thread is a lifesaver!

tea congratulations on the rolling over, not long before you'll be needing running shoes and stair gates! Grin I am kind of enjoying the no mobility of this stage...

susieloo good luck with finding a sleep sac babyloo likes, let me know which one works as Kid is really fussy on nighttime apparel!

heffalump hope your grandad is ok.

Small Sad about the teeth, sympathies and hope you can get it sorted pronto.

We had the paed appointment today, everything looking okay. We will just be going back every so often to keep an eye on Kid's lungs, because of the pneumothorax he had on his second day of life which reaccumulated a couple of days later. Although the paed was impressed with the volume and dedication of his cry! Mentioned the feeding difficulties, and he seemed to think this is just immaturity and we have to wait. Tested the suck and said it isn't the best he's ever come across! Oh well, slow feeds it is then. Good luck with the scan minipop

Smicha · 17/10/2012 01:53

Awake again! We got three hours sleep after that sleepless day... I confess I was hoping for a lot more!

Jabs don't sound like much fun. I get upset if he has bad wind so I'll be rubbish st coping at jab time!

Going to employ Ewan for the first time after this feed...

MrsNPattz · 17/10/2012 02:15

Well I got what I wanted - 2 hours on the dot! Be careful what you wish for lol no, after the evening we had I can't complain about that!

I have a new obsession - photobox! It's a website where you can upload photos and then order prints/albums/mugs/phone covers etc etc if anyone wants me to refer them then you get 50 free prints (and so do I Grin)! Or I may be behind the times and everyone knows about it Hmm having taken over 8 hundred photos in a month, I am having a field day ordering prints, and i think it will be good for Christmas presents too Smile

funchum8am · 17/10/2012 02:48

Up again here!

goat I have been checking work email every few days so not that weird that I am thinking about my team. I love my job and am going back quite early (end of Feb, after half term) because I love it and because DH is happy, in fact keen, to split the year of parental leave with me. I didn't want to get too out of touch hence the email checking. If someone from my team left they'd be bound to tell me anyway but especially in these circumstances. I am going in to show off babyfunch on Friday so will get more of the story then.

mrsn I have discovered photobox too! I have a delivery of really cheesy thank you cards with a pic of babyfunch on arriving to send to the kind people who sent us gifts, and have used some of the free prints I got when I signed up. Need to invest in some frames now and find space around the house! TKMaxx is quite good for frames.

I want some more sleep, pleeeease little one!

Smallgreenone · 17/10/2012 02:55

I know heff so sad last week too with Ethel snd her little boy. Hopefully next week will be more cheery.
We're on the second feed now after only 2 hours sleep. Ugh. This means we'll definitely hit 5/5.30
mrsnpatz we got a photo box thing in our bounty hospital pack so we can't be referred, sorry. I've been a bit snap happy too and need to get around to ordering prints.
Gosh I'm so tired tonight. Dh is in our bed tonight and I sort of wish he wasn't so I could sneak baby small in..........

Susieloo · 17/10/2012 04:03

2nd feed of the night so not too bad compared to the last few nights!! I feel less hysterical and zombiefied. Why is it always this feed that he doesn't want to settle after?

I'm using photobox too, have just ordered 60 prints and a canvas!! It's the first time I've ordered any photos since he was born so can't wait to have some in the house rather than looking on my phone all the time. Right attempting transfer back to cot and hoping for at least 6.30am before we are up.

MrsNPattz · 17/10/2012 04:34

Another 2 hours here. Hmm l

Oh you all beat me to it re photobox - I will have to find some unsuspecting friends and family lol

I have a question - how often do you change nappies in the night? At every feed? Obviously they are changed after poonamis (Grin) but just wondered about wet ones because at this time of night if he has fallen asleep at boob I don't really want to wake him by changing him Confused

MummyVicky18 · 17/10/2012 04:58

Been up every 2 hrs too been unable to post though as the app froze.

Have you checked out all the other sites where you can get free photo books? We've done most of them and photo box seems the best so far.

We stopped changing nappy after every feed coz didn't want to wake him. We only ever change him now if there is a poonami.
We use pampers baby dry and he seems undisturbed. We figured we wouldn't be waking to change him if he slept through the night so unless he seems bothered by it (which he hasn't ) we leave him ( we have had no nappy rash since doing this eitherSmile)

funchum8am · 17/10/2012 05:22

I asked the midwife about whether to burp baby after every feed because at night it just wakes her. Mw said that at night there is no need to wind or change them if they are not distressed - sleep is more important. I'm not one for slavishly doing what the Mw says but as this was what I wanted to hear I am delighted to go with it!

Babyfunch has decided to feed every hour and a bit this morning...not impressed!

Susieloo · 17/10/2012 05:26

Mmmm up again so not sure what woke him this time, I have got into the habit of changing at every feed because babyloo eats so much he also does epic wees so I prod the front of his nappy and if it feels really full of liquid I change it which it normally does, I always do it before feeds though which he seems to have got used to so doesn't seem to cry as much as when I first used to do it. I asked the hv about it once and she said that the nappies are so absorbent these days you don't really need to change in the night because they are not left with any wee against there skin. I just want to eliminate any possible reason for him waking up!!!

Clumsasaurus · 17/10/2012 06:01

susieloo I gave calpol with a little syringe - it only takes 1ml so you have to refil it but at least you get it in! A chemist should be able to give you one at the dispenserary or at worst charge you a few pence

green sorry to hear about your teeth - my wisdoms gave me he'll! You could try baby teething stuff - powders, gels etc. also research Baltic amber and hazel wood - both good natural aids for teething (to be worn not chomped!)

green babysaurus wasn't low birth weight but the GP recommended calpol as an 'insurance policy' and did the same for a friend whose DD was low BW

As for nappies, I put saurus in a clean one circa 10pm and he stays in it until 8am ish unless there's a poonami or it feels overly full. We us pampers and hoe has no rash nor displays discomfort

Smicha · 17/10/2012 06:02

I change at every feed but mainly because he seems to store poos up for night time and goes at every feed! He also pees a lot and that tends to upset him a bit. I wish I could just leave him when he drops off but he is too good a nappy filler!

We went back to sleep at just after 2 with the help of Ewan and he woke at 3.30 but I was so tired I ignored his grunts for a few minutes bad mother and he went back to sleep until 5.30! Maybe I usually react too quickly to his noises!

It is raining so much here! Hope it clears as I need to get out and about today after yesterday's nightmarish afternoon and have never taken him out in the rain before...I'm sure he won't dissolve Grin

missingmymarbles · 17/10/2012 06:19

Susie been up pretty much the same times as you tonight, but gave been too tired to post. Missmarbles and Babyloo seem up be collaborating again Smile

MrsN unless there's a poonami, I do not change overnight. We use moltex nappies with no problem. Who mentioned they used cloth nappies?? I use cloth during the day but then a disposable at night. Do you change your cloth one?

Fantastic baby Babylon! Has it been repeated tonight?

That's good if he's gone back over, SmichaSmile Missmarbles gave shrieks of laughter and delight earlier when she stirred rather than going back ober Hmm

Hope you get some answers with the scan, Mini.

I was told to give DD1(premie) calpol after jabs but iirc, I gave a reduced dose.

Missmarbles back to sleep. Hope she stays that way. I'm so tired this morning zzzzzzzzz

Loislane78 · 17/10/2012 06:27

Same here re. nappies; unless poonami or very wet I leave until morning now. When she was smaller used to change every feed but don't seem to need to anymore. Hurrah for pampers super dry!!

To who asked about poop frequency, at about 5 wks mine started going just once a day and now at 9 wks it can be every few days. Totes normal as long as poop still soft ie. no constipation.

smicha the grunting/noise is the reason we moved LO to own room as i couldn't sleep. She was absolutely fine but i would be looking in the basket instantly seeing what was going on (not saying thats bad but i was a wreck). One night she was doing it for ages and there followed the tiniest little fart, then no noise after that! Bless :).

I would never let her get upset and am still a bit jack-in-a-box checking but try not to rush over to grunting now, only cos I can hear the difference between squeals as she's gotten bigger :).

TeaandHobnobs · 17/10/2012 06:30

goat DS had his first set of jabs at 9 weeks, 1 week corrected, and I gave him a dose of calpol after.

My friend is a nurse who works with babies, and she said the amount of painkiller in a dose of calpol has to be small, as it is done by weight, so the dosage has to be suitable for the smallest baby at that age.

Did you think Kid needed something last time? If he doesn't show signs of a temperature or a lot of distress, then he can probably do without it, but if you do give him a dose it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck for the scan minipopsmum Smile

Goatbongosanonymous · 17/10/2012 06:39

Thanks for all the answers on the calpol. tea he didn't need anything after the last lot, but a few people seemed to say that the second lot of jabs is worse, so it would be nice to have the option of helping him feel a little better he needs it! Still, he seems fairly hardy - cried for about ten seconds last time, then you could see him think, 'oh, can't be bothered with this, I'm off to sleep...' Smile
