my kids arent obese

Nbg · 07/03/2006 16:15

Hmmmm

I don't really know what to think about that.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:18

woah - so in 9 months time my skinny minny DS2 is going to turn into a fat are child - bgger - ahhh well at least we won't need a belt to hold his trousers up anymore Wink

hunkermunker · 07/03/2006 16:20

Feel free to wheel out any personal experience stuff of one child you know who's breastfed and a fatty.

SoupDragon · 07/03/2006 16:20

Bottle-fed babies who start eating solids early are more likely to become obese children

Note, more likely, not will. Just because your children aren't doesn't make the research any less valid.

Piffle · 07/03/2006 16:23

more likely to be obese being the operative word scouse :)
They can blame what they like for obesity but the fact stands AFAIC
Calories in = calories out - no weight gain
Lots more calories than calories out = weight gain
Whatever you eat, however you eat.
However these articles make me feel better Grin

Tatties · 07/03/2006 16:25

Is the article saying that bottle-fed babies are more likely to become obese due to lack of information for bottle-feeding parents about how much formula to give in relation to solids (basically overfeeding), rather than the nature of formula milk itself?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:26

nah - hm - DS1 is skinny too - absolutely b*gger trying to find school trousers to fit him.

although I (breastfed) was a podge as a kid and older brother (bottlefed) was (still is - git) skinny.........hmm wonder where my kids get it from...

But on a more serious note - surely it's got a lot to do with what they are weaned onto. IME most mothers who breastfeed their children for a long time also tend to wean onto more healthy foods and generally have a healthier lifestyle

. A lot (but by no means all) of bottlefeeding mums are the ones you'll see down McDonald's with their 10 month old feeding it coke and chips.....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/03/2006 16:26

I happen to think the research is a little flawed.

Shock
expatinscotland · 07/03/2006 16:26

Poor bottle-fed me! Natually thin, rarely ill and perhaps even somewhat intelligent :o.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:27

p*ss off expat Wink Grin

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:28

me - breastfed - short, fat and thick as two short planks - not to mention lots of 'mild' illnesses (avoided most of the 'biggies' so far).

Mercy · 07/03/2006 16:30

HRH - do go to McDonalds quite often then?

I do hope that line was meant to be funny

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:33

mercy - I bet you don't feed your 10 month old coke and chips though do you !!!

I saw LOADS of them doing that when I was pg with DS2 - I practically lived in there as I had cravings for their milkshakes Blush. And I do live in a very "chavvy" town (says she who let her chav friend dress her up in "bling" for a night on the town the other night Blush Blush - cringe)

Mercy · 07/03/2006 16:36

No, we've never been to McDonalds tbh - Burger King for us Wink

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:38

ooo no - I wouldn't be seen dead in our local Burger King - used to be a Wimpy - and it's the open bit of the 'upstairs' in our "shopping centre" (I use the term loosely) and is the chavviest place (bar McDonalds which I have to walk past to get into town) in town. and their chips suck.

Mercy · 07/03/2006 16:48

I know what you mean HRH. Burger bars to me always means shopping centres and motorway service stations. Hate the damn places.

I do let the children have BK as an occasional treat though for 2 reasons. They hate shopping centres and long distance drives and also if you don't relent very occasionaly (money permitting) it becomes the forbidden fruit. We had a cheese strings incident recently which turned out well (ie, dd has decided she hates them!)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 16:50

I let the DS's have a McD occasionaly - although DS2 has had fewer than DS1 ever did. But neither of them drink fizzy drinks - DS2 has never tried them (to my knowledge) and DS1 doesn't like.

Have to confess I'm rather partical to the occasional McChicken Sandwich - but can't stand their burgers.
