No surprises there then.

(Can I just ask QoQ a question about her own experience - she says she was breastfed and is fat? She was talking about getting into size 8 jeans on another thread the other day!)

yes - well I was, and still am, very shocked about that - as I've still got fat rolling round my arse, tummy and thighs. The weight I have managed to lose has mostly been a massive struggle - 1yr ago I weighed 10stone - ok maybe not a lot compared to some - but for a 5ft, petite framed woman pretty heavy. And they are stretch jeans - wouldn't have a cat in hells chance of fitting into regular size 8 LOL.

hunkermunker · 07/03/2006 22:54

Still doesn't count as fat, I'm afraid, QoQ, not by any "stretch" of the imagination Grin

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/03/2006 23:00

you haven't seen me - bearing in mind I always used to be 7 stone. I inhertied my mothers "lovely" genes of piling on weight while pg and not getting rid of it. Rocketed to 12stone with DS1 - and when I fell pg with DS2 (DS1 was 2 1/2yrs old) I was still over 10 stone.

my BMI is still in the 'overweight' catergory - and by that definition I'm still fat.

lazycow · 08/03/2006 14:24

yawn

Feed them all macdonalds and chocolate buttons at 3 months old that's what I say.

lunavix · 08/03/2006 14:39

I'm constantly paranoid about ds's weight and I really think crap articles and research don't help tbh. I think the only people who take notice are those doing the right thing in the first place.

As I've said before, I sobbed when my ds refused his final breastfeed at around 6 weeks. I was convinced I was going to have a fat, unhealthy unhappy child.

He's definately on the large side. At nearly 2, he's the same height most kids 6 - 8 months older, and he's over 2 stone.

However, he loves hommus sandwiches, has fruit smoothies and cereal for breakfast, and a healthy dinner. Gets a max of one biscuit a day, and very ocassionally crisps if he's been good. One small beaker of milk a day (semi skimmed milk) and he doesn't usually finish that.

I don't think I can be overfeeding him. But shit nonsense spouted by these people really doesn't help.

oliveoil · 08/03/2006 14:58

I breastfed and both mine were weaned at 4 months ish.

Obviously straight onto McDee Happy Meals, only the best for my girls.

Normsnockers · 08/03/2006 15:24

As dinny stated much earlier, socio-economics could be a large factor in the results but this is not what the powers that be will want to publicise.

JoolsToo · 08/03/2006 15:37

gah!

dinny · 08/03/2006 19:44

Lunavix, my ds is 2 stone 3 and is only 18 months. and was/is bfd. it's all genetics, IMO.

koolkat · 09/03/2006 09:54

Flea, as the research you have quoted is very careful to point out, bf has numerous benefits over formula feeding.

In the interest of fairness, could you please find a GLOBAL study that says bf babies are NOT slimmer than formula fed ones ?

WHO and UNICEF research indicate that bf babies are on AVERAGE slimmer and healthier than formula fed babies.

The USA has some of the fattest people on earth (according to research), including children whether bf or not.

I am very very suspicious of studies based on US children alone.

mojomummy · 09/03/2006 13:18

the reason most americann kids tend to be fatter is because they eat such crap Shock

I was over there recently, unofficially studying breakfast cereals - (most of which, contain various sort of sugars - their sultana bran tastes nothing like ours)

The kids don't have sandwiches for lunch - a la DD & I. They all seem to carry little plastic bags of 'goldfish' around which are, well apart from a bit of a joke, just contain flour, flavourings & lots of unpronouncable ingredients.

The bread contains sugars & seeing as it's so much more expensive, cheap & poor quality food is the order of the day.

If you eat fat you get fat, whether you can see
it on the outside in terms of blubber, or it's silently clogging up your arteries. It's not f*ing rocket science. It makes me so Angry

koolkat · 09/03/2006 13:36

mojo - I have never been to the USA but most of my family have.

The entire country has a culture of stuff your face from birth at cheap prices and if you can't finish you kilos of food at the restaurant, you are given a "doggy bag" to take it home and stuff your face in the comfort of your home !!

My BIL & SIL live in California and they tell me that even though many Cal's are health conscious and the beaches are full of beautiful bodies, there are still loads of over-weight children around.

mojomummy · 09/03/2006 13:50

Koolkat - yes I know -there is a terrible food culture which will probably end up making it's way over there.

we visited friends who, instead of giving their 16mth old something nutrious for lunch & dinner, took her out to a mexican & bought her a burrito Shock All that salt & fat...I asked if this was a normal eating out practice & informed it was. They both work & don't have time to shop. I said well I work part-time & do my food shopping after work. I think it's just lazy. Certainly the mum was amazed when I...brace yourself....peeled & cooked potatoes & carrots !!

when I'm minister for food, it will all change Wink

koolkat · 09/03/2006 14:37

mojo - Let me know when you are going to stand in the next elections, you defo. have my vote for Health Minister!

sophiecustessofwessex · 09/03/2006 14:54

koolkat · 09/03/2006 15:07
