Nice to see this on a menu...

Big thumbs up for the Beatrix Potter attraction in the Lakes - their cafe menu has a little note to say that mothers are very welcome to breastfeed their baby in the cafe (ok, child might be better but it's still good).
I complimented them on this. They said they like to be child friendly (naturally, given the venue), but as I said, it's nice to know they have the right attitude as it gives people more confidence to bf.
Just nice to have a good word to say about a shop rather than a rant
(and their chilli chicken ciabatta was lovely)

excellent
It is lovely to see this actually, I have only seen it once (in a leisure centre in BRidlington, as it happens) and it brought a tear to my eye

i think its good because, unfortunately, there are people in this world who would tutt and stare at a bf mother, but if its on the menu im black and white the mother can just shove that under their nose

I thought I had my moment yesterday. I was sitting waiting for my food in a restaurant and feeding dd2 when a waitress approached looking slightly shifty...
and said - do you want mayonaisse on your baguette. I was SOOOO disappointed. I am quite in the mood for a row.....

I get very uptight now at the thought of feeding DS (17mo) in public, much to my dismay. I'm so determined to keep going until he is 2, but I find I'm allowing myself to be labelled as wierd.

fastasleep · 16/02/2006 15:10

I wanna see a sign that says 'please feel free to breastfeed your child or use your breastpump'

because I'm still not allowed to use my breastpump even in BFing friendly places, well the management might be ok but after the third or fourth 'what are you doing?' 'Why not just feed it' 'That's disgusting' 'What an offensive noise' etc etc I get fed up lol

tipex that woman sounds brilliant! wish i owned a cafe just so i could pamper bf ladies too

chipmonkey · 18/02/2006 21:38

A lot of cafes in Dublin have signs up saying "You are welcome to breastfeed here" Its part of a government drive.

moondog · 18/02/2006 21:44

I don't actually need a sign allowing me to b/feed.I just do it (although acknowledge it may make milder mannered women than me feel good.)

Far out fastasleep,do you use your b/pump in public????
I couldn't even do it in front of dh.

I salute your........bravery!!

(Thought you were giving up??)

moondog · 18/02/2006 21:44

Tipex..that is sooooooo charming!

Pixiefish · 18/02/2006 21:45

excellent

JiminyCricket · 18/02/2006 22:17

Excellent. Am in the process of giving my nhs trust restaurant manager a hard time because their customer survey asked if people minded mothers breastfeeding babies in there.

moondog · 18/02/2006 22:18

Eh JC??
Restaurant in a hospital is this??

Lilliput · 18/02/2006 23:17

My husband and I run a restaurant and we have a sticker on our door along with the Good Food guide stickers ( I'm bragging now!!) that indicates that we are a breastfeeding friendly place. A small local booklet was put together by a support group and we are in that too.

moondog · 18/02/2006 23:18

You should tell us who and where you are Lill!!

sparklymieow · 18/02/2006 23:19

misdee got a dirty look yesterday because she was bf her dd3 in a softplay centre..

misdee · 18/02/2006 23:19

ah yes, the lady (koff) looked at me feeding dd3 with a screwed up look on her face, liek she had been sucking lemons.

Lilliput · 18/02/2006 23:20

If I tell you it will reveal my true identity!!Am I ready for that??

moondog · 18/02/2006 23:22

Ah well,it's up to you,but a little MN solidarity (and publicity)is no bad thing, and if I was nearby, I would come in even though my b/feeding days are now over.

Lilliput · 18/02/2006 23:25

Okay then. The Limetree Restaurant, Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway. www.limetree-restaurant.co.uk

Breastfeeding in the restaurant is not compulsory moondog!!

moondog · 18/02/2006 23:26

A big up for Lilliput's place girls!!!

(I will be sure and visit next time I am up there!)
