That's why I don't watch daytime TV! That segment was probably made for stupid people who just want to sit around and congratulate themselves for being stupid and balk at any opportunity to expand their knowledge because then they won't fit in with their stupid friends. Dullards.

My son asks for breastmilk. He gets excited when he sees the boob and cries if he doesn't get his milk quickly enough. So, time to stop?
He is almost 3 months old now

You just wait and DD (2) asks nicely to begin with, but if I try to fob her off she pulls my top out at the front and sticks her head down my top

DD (20 months) will take any and all opportunities to have boobies and takes umbrage when I wear a polo neck, for instance.

orchidee, you're right, it's ridiculous to suggest that you should stop when they can ask. As far as I know, they can ask from birth.

I'm past caring. It used to annoy me hearing comments like that but now I mostly avoid the likely sources of them or brush it off.
Why do people care so much anyway? I breastfed my DD for 3 years and while I'm sure some, Ok most, people did find it weird, they had the sense to keep it to themselves. I only really heard negative comments in the media not IRL.

In relation to asking nicely, getting them to call it something other than BOOBIES helps. My DD called it "those", she'd say I want those, very cryptic!

I am very proud of DD1's manners, she says 'some booby prease' very nicely. You have to be quick though, otherwise she starts saying 'someboobysomeboobysomebooby' gradually increasing in volume until the whole village can hear her

why is that even a story in a rag newspaper?! fair enough if she was feeding a 3.5 year old goat or her child had rows of teeth like a shark, but just breast milk + toddler?! that's not news FFS!

I've somehow taught DS (22 months) to shriek 'BILK' when he wants milk, so that's cryptic enough that nobody else needs know what it means :o

although he has just started shrieking 'MILK' when he sees the bottle of cow milk in the morning, so I think my days as his sole milk provider are coming to an end!

I was genuinely that someone would actually call it 'repulsive' or 'revolting' (can't remember which word she used - it was Ruth thingy that said it). I might understand if she'd said 'weird' or something - not because it is weird in any way, but it's not something you see every day, so it might be understandable for someone to find something unusual 'weird' or 'strange'. But what exactly is disgusting about it? As someone said upthread, "a human child drinking human milk". I genuinely do not understand.

The 18 months comment was ridiculous too given the WHO recommendations. And isn't four the global average age of weaning from the breast?

I actually thought the Mirror piece was OK, except for the nonsense about 'most people weaning at six months' and 'even though she was eating solid foods, she still wanted breastmilk' (err, yes ... she would still want and need milk even if she were FF). But overall it was quite a nice account.

Agree Kveta. I hate to see these articles. I don't know what anyone would agree to take part in them. If you got the impression they were publishing it to help normalize bfing a toddler, fair enough, but they always make the mothers look more like a freak and use it as an excuse to print a photo methinks.

DD says "Wan mi mi please" which is polite. The she sticks her head down my top as described, which is less so

ha ha Stealth - DS just lifts my top up when he wants his Bilk. luckily for me, he knows he only gets bilk morning and evening, so he is not allowed to even THINK it during the day. or in public. this is more due to the fact that he can't sit still whilst feeding and wants to carry on chatting to me, so a feed normally involves me being sprayed with milk at some point as he tries to tell me a plane is going overhead, or, the other day 'mummy! curtain!' because he'd just noticed he had curtains in his room. odd child.

Tuschinski - I think these articles would be good if they had a) less of a 'OMG Boobies!' tone to them and b) they showed young, totally normal looking mums, who just happen to be bfing. because, let's be honest, how you feed your child is not that big a fucking deal. So long as they are getting milk that is appropriate to their age, and they (mum, baby, and father) are happy with it, who, apart from them, cares?! Yes, in an ideal world, everyone would bfeed their baby, and everyone would have a VB, and nobody would need to use a nursery/go out to work once they have kids etc etc etc (please insert other things which mothers are judged for into that list). But so long as no actual abuse/neglect is going on, the length of time a child is breast fed for, is absolutely not important to ANYBODY except that child/mother pair.
