You cannot escape your blackness when considering political choices in this country I’m afraid.

And those that think they can, are deluded, being polite.

Read upthread and you’ll find that some are concerned about the general poor treatment of Diane by her own party, refusal to deal properly with racism against her - that’s the “fuss” that some have.

Of course, you must decide how much weight to give the things that you consider affect you and your family.

Not for anyone to prove anything for you.

You need to go and do your own research. It’s lazy to expect others to do that for you.

I refuse to put my skin colour in the forefront of my political thinking.

It's okay, Nigel will do that for you.

LadyKenya · 14/06/2024 15:00

Any one who would use the term "pandering to the blacks", while stating that they are black, says it all really. I think that you raised a very important point @seedsandseeds , regarding Farage revoking citizenship for people. History has shown us that anything is possible.

seedsandseeds · 14/06/2024 15:57

This board was created to bring black people together. If you're avoiding and denying your ethnicity, voting for racists who'd kick you out of the country and first chance then why are you posting here? It makes little sense.

DM29 · 14/06/2024 21:23

I wish to add another angle to this voting. Having just had my local MP knock on our door a couple of hours ago canvassing. I would encourage one to vote locally.
Vote for the MP who has made a real difference in your area and who’s actually getting things done. For me coincidentally my local MP happens to be from the party I was already voting for based on the school fees issue. However, definitely consider voting locally.

You read my mind. Someone has a strange turn of phrase for a 'British Nigerian'.

Who are you talking to?
I’m voting Labour and have said so from the get go.Whatever ‘Nige’ says am not interested but there will be some right wing black voters who’ll vote Reform and many who’ll vote Tory, including my own Dad.Despite what you say about skin colour British black and mixed race people are as different politically speaking as white British people are.
I won’t not vote Labour just because DA has been given a hard time as I know it isn’t her skin colour but her support of Corbyn and antisemitism that kept her out of the LP fold.
I vote for what I see as the best chance for the UK and the Party which can effect the most good for the country and people’s lives.

Sighs
Am not voting reform.

Krampers · 17/06/2024 06:37

Can’t imagine voting reform as a black (Nigerian) female.

Maggiethecat · 19/06/2024 08:05

The leadership won’t even properly distance itself from the racist statements of some candidates.

Diane for deportation should not be taken as a joke.

Reform UK rosette

Reform says candidates not ‘political zombies’ as comments emerge

It comes as fresh details emerge about social media posts by some Reform UK candidates.

LadyKenya · 19/06/2024 13:57

Any black person who would vote for that party, is seriously misguided. The party is full of racists. How much clearer do they have to be?

Maggiethecat · 19/06/2024 14:18

It is disturbing to think that black people could lend support to Reform forming the opposition to government.

I’m not sure how many promises (uncosted or otherwise) could entice me to disregard their unapologetic racist position!

LadyKenya · 19/06/2024 15:37

I’m not sure how many promises (uncosted or otherwise) could entice me to disregard their unapologetic racist position!

For me, it would be none, zero, zilch. I am sick of black people being openly disrespected, as if we do not matter, and being told that we do not belong here, in one way, or another. Diane Abbott was born here, so that shows the level of ignorance from some of those people.

seedsandseeds · 19/06/2024 23:17

@sparkleowl Apologies, was referring to @FastQuoter but didn't make that clear enough.

Guavafish1 · 19/06/2024 23:21

would never vote for a racist party that treats Diane abbot in.such a horrible way

seedsandseeds · 12/06/2024 11:05

Figured.

Yes, a lot of Nigerians (especially the ones that live over there) think like Kemi Badenoch...ie that racism isn't a thing

sparkleowl · 14/06/2024 12:52

That's mixed race privilege I suppose

PerfectYear321 · 28/06/2024 14:21

That's mixed race privilege I suppose

Doesn't it depend on what you look like?

Anyway Reform have been caught showing who they really are.

Starseeking · 28/06/2024 17:40

@PerfectYear321 In my experience lots of people who have grown up in Black majority countries think there is no racism in Western countries, mainly because they can't relate to it.

My EX thought racism was all in British born Black people's heads. Despite us having the same theoretical heritage (though me born and brought up in the UK and him coming from the African country of my parents in his early 20's) when I reflect back a lot of the reasons for our relationship breakdown came down to culture clash.

I can only put it down to people like that growing up in the African country and witnessed real poverty and no safety net, issues like racism appear so trivial as to be insignificant.

Maggiethecat · 28/06/2024 18:09

I know people from the Caribbean who are of the middle/upper middle class in their country and who struggle to connect or identify with British born black people who are not of a similar privileged background.

They would rather dissociate themselves from this class of black people and part of this involves dismissing and minimising racism.

Not sure if similar is true for people of some African countries.
