Not even unbelievable. Very believable.

Racist Britons at their finest

@autienotnaughty the dictionary definition needs to be changed then. As the definition stands, yes a black person can be racist to a white person. I have definitely met people who I considered to hold personal racist views of white people.

I have experienced racism from other minority groups in this country, including having the ‘m’ word screamed at me and my toddler from a passing car.

I agree that this country is institutionally racist and it is a huge problem. I just don’t agree that it is impossible for black people to be racist to white people in any scenario. Hypothetically a black manager turned down a white person for a job only because they were white and due to preconceived notions of what that meant the person would be like, isn’t that racism?

The 'm' word. I need to get out more, maybe. I have not got a clue what that means. Some of the comments on this thread are ridiculous.

Same, no idea what it is 😂

CrazyFishLady · 10/05/2022 17:34

@emuloc and @NippyWoowoo it was a finger slip and meant to say the 'n' word.

I didn't realise it would need correcting, thought that that would be obvious.

But I'm glad you found some hilarity in it.

I have personal views against white people. Still not racism.

You've missed the end of the screenshot, typically a minority group.

What's this M/N word you speak of?

CrazyFishLady · 10/05/2022 14:20

It isn't racist. I'm not white. I'm black. I cannot be racist to a white person.

That definitely isn’t true.

Anyway, I agree that a lot of the daily mail comments are rooted in racism.

I also think some people do have a legitimate point about ‘classic’ franchises being altered, sometimes dramatically (I read something about the doctors entire backstory being changed last season, that’s not going to feel good for long time fans).

I personally think it would be better for new brands of stories, tv shows and movies to be created FOR black people and everyone who needs more representation, rather than just a revised (usually crapper) version of everything that has been before. Like the aforementioned and excellent ‘Sex education’.

It is true. 😁

Why would it be obvious? So, please do correct me if I have got this wrong. Are you saying that you have been called the 'n' word, by someone else who is black or brown? Any way the rest of your post is err...interesting.

Quaagars · 10/05/2022 17:51

I'm a massive Dr Who fan, and completely agree it's disgusting the racist comments about him being the new Dr.
I'd not heard of him before the announcement, but am looking forward to this as he sounds great - lots of people are saying he's brilliant in Sex Education and would be a great Dr so can't wait now!
Also what the fuck, people moaning over your title?!
I don't have a problem with it, it IS white people being racist.
If you're not one of them, then it doesn't apply to you, does it?!

CrazyFishLady · 10/05/2022 17:59

@emuloc yes, a gang of Asian men in a car shouted the 'n' word at me when I was pushing my toddler down the road. I posted about it at the time.

Glad you found my post interesting.

CrazyFishLady · 10/05/2022 18:02

@PatricksRum I didn't miss the end of the screenshot. It says 'typically' a minority group, not 'always' a minority group. I just disagreed that just because you are black that you can't be racist to white people.

Can see that this discussion is derailing the thread though so will stop replying re: black people being incapable of racism against white people.

@Quaagars he really is a fantastic actor in Sex Education. So much so that I may even watch Doctor Who for the first time! (Sci-fi isn't really my thing)

Sorry, it really isn't clear if you're white? Your previous post where you first say that you can be racist to white people followed by you saying you've experienced racism from a minority group suggests that you are.

If you are black then I apologise for the misunderstanding.

RedWingBoots · 10/05/2022 19:20

Ahh a squatter trying the old divide and conquer trick.

I use to be told as a teen/young adult about those "odd Irish" people who did x and y from similar individuals.

CrazyFishLady · 10/05/2022 19:34

Where on Earth is all this nastiness coming from? Just because I disagreed (I thought respectfully) with one aspect of one post? The inference seems to be that because I don’t agree with the op 100% that I couldn’t possibly be black?

No, I’m not white. I’m black. Apologies for any confusion but who on earth else would get the n word screamed at them?!

I’m pretty shocked, here of all places, that talking about that has resulted in a lot of ‘😂😂😂’ faces.

emuloc · 10/05/2022 19:38

Well you do admit yourself, that there was some confusion regarding your post CrazyFishLady. Glad you have cleared that up for us.

PatricksRum · 10/05/2022 19:48

Apologies I thought you were white and were proving that you could experience racism.

bI have experienced racism from other minority groups in this country, including having the ‘m’ word screamed at me and my toddler from a passing car.'

My point was a black person cannot be racist to a white person. I didn't say minorities couldn't be racist to other minorities.

Racism = prejudice + power

Racial prejudice is what white people may experience from black people. Not only is there no power involved but the prejudice is often as a result of the abuse faced from white people.

No, it's the way it was written.

'Black people can be racist to white people.' Followed by

'I have experienced racism from a minority group.'

Came across like you were white.

Add in the 'm' word and it's a recipe for confusion Grin

Anonymoussssss · 12/05/2022 18:46

I thought mumsnet were going to create a space where black people can talk about topics, that relate to THEIR feelings, without constant interruptions, oh wait.. 🙄

Lndnmummy · 12/05/2022 20:51

PatricksRum · 09/05/2022 16:11

You know what's sad?

I campaigned and put so many hours into getting black people our own section on mumsnet.

There was immediate backlash.

Now I've fought for our own space I'm getting white people coming into our safe space telling me that what I'm experiencing isn't racism.

So disheartening.

When I campaigned for this section I welcomed everyone over as this is our safe space to share but I've created a thread about our experience as black people in a black section of an app and people have so much white privilege that they feel they have to make themselves the subject and claim they are the ones experiencing racism.

❤️ @PatricksRum

It is so shit.

DeeCeeCherry · 13/05/2022 00:44

I read some crappy racist comments on FB. Honestly, racists sound as if they'll spontaneously combust.

Of course it's racism re Doctor Who. I guess we have the usual Watchfuls here, giving us the benefit of their uninformed and unasked for opinion as to whether racism is at play or not.

Desperate to be seen and heard is a thing. Racism apologists should be ignored

ItsFriyay22 · 13/05/2022 18:28

I have come on to apologise to the OP. I thought it was an awful thread title initially.
I do sincerely want to apologise.
I have been doing a lot of reading and trying to educate myself.
Itll be the first and last time i comment on this space, it is yours, and after reading / researching, I see why you need one.
OP, sorry again. I see that you don't need this rubbish time and time again.

Agreed. It's sometimes hard for me to ignore ignorant comments, but the truth is if no one engages then they will run out of steam, instead of derailing the thread and demanding mental labour to explain things/provide links that are perfectly Googleable

Somanyquestions1984 · 13/05/2022 20:14

The thing us racism between two minority groups is still not the same as racism directed against whites as they are not minorities. Hence I also dint believe they experience true racism.

Somanyquestions1984 · 13/05/2022 20:16

I personally don't bother with DM comments on stories about people of colour, let alone one about a black Dr Who as I know how racist the comments will be.

Somanyquestions1984 · 13/05/2022 20:17

@DeeCeeCherry I agree its like they lay in wait ready to police your reaction.
