Victoria’s Secret ‘Karen’

I came across this today and I am in awe at this lady who tried to attack a black woman thrice but upon realising she was being filmed put on the display of her life.

While it is funny, it is no laughing matter as black people have been killed for less. Even while she’s clearly being the aggressor, people are telling the black woman to stop filming and move away from her including the mall security and police.

I agree that many people in mixed race relationships hold questionable views. I try to understand and educate myself and listen to what my DH tells me. It's a work in progress for sure, I'm aware of that. There's are often situations I see where I think oh I would have handled it differently and I'm sure it would have been sorted out just fine...like the video we're discussing, yet I remind myself that I am looking at these situations with my white privilege.

RedMarauder · 01/08/2021 20:51

@Lndnmummy my post was aimed at a particular poster who has a complete lack of self-awareness.

MorrisZapp · 01/08/2021 21:04

I get that my opinion is not solicited or wanted here so I won't comment on content, but if you include my name in thread titles in a negative or stereotypical way I will read them. Wouldn't you? If it was your own name?

I'll hide and move on but if you used any other word at all to describe that kind of behaviour in thread titles then I wouldn't be here at all. It's not my space so why use my name, this will just go round and round until that name is retired from service.

EchoNan · 01/08/2021 21:38

It hasn't stopped you plopping on previously MorrisZapp to air your unsolicited opinions on how we should think or what not to read.

People are individuals on here, we have different views, there is no "line".

Neither do you have copyright on a first name. Some of us also have that name or family with that name. We discussed it upthread. Without you.

If you have a problem with a post on BMN I suggest you take it up with MNHQ.

MorrisZapp · 01/08/2021 21:57

Thank you, I will do.

How about White tears, White rage,? Does that sit more comfortably?
Or perhaps Political Whiteness ?

Abstract

"Using #MeToo as a starting point, this paper argues that the cultural power of mainstream white feminism partly derives from the cultural power of white tears. This in turn depends on the dehumanisation of people of colour, who were constructed in colonial ‘race science’ as incapable of complex feeling (Schuller, 2018).
Colonialism also created a circuit between bourgeois white women’s tears and white men’s rage, often activated by allegations of rape, which operated in the service of economic extraction and exploitation. This circuit endures, abetting the criminal punishment system and the weaponisation of ‘women’s safety’ by the various border regimes of the right.
It has especially been utilised by reactionary forms of feminism, which set themselves against sex workers and trans people. Such feminisms exemplify what I call ‘political whiteness’, which centres assertions of victimhood: through these, womanhood (and personhood) is claimed to the exclusion of the enemy.

Through legitimating criminal punishment and border policing and dehumanising marginalised Others, claims to victimhood in mainstream feminism often end up strengthening the intersecting violence of racial capitalism and heteropatriarchy."

A thought provoking read. ime

@yname

TawnyPipit

What is your motive here?

Yes, what possible motive can she have for making out the racist white woman to be the victim...
yname · 02/08/2021 13:39

DeleteSystem32

Exactly..

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 02/08/2021 13:57

That woman, the white one. scary and aggressive then on being caught out, starts screaming crying like a brat on the floor REALLY needs her arse kicking. The only victim was the black lady. Utterly sickening.

SunSunSunshine · 02/08/2021 14:07

@HmmmmmmInteresting

Urrrggh, I'm not going to watch the video because I'm angry with these people enough
'These people' who are you referring to?
Lndnmummy · 02/08/2021 14:09

@SunSunSunshine
With these people we mean all the other racist Karen’s out there.

SunSunSunshine · 02/08/2021 14:11
@TawnyPipit to be very clear, I don't care if you're sitting at your breakfast table this very moment with your Black husband and your mixed-race children and their Black granny- knowing non-white people doesn't excuse you from racism. You're exhibiting racist behaviour by entering a space for Black women and telling us how you think we should act or what language we use. I'm asking you nicely to go away.
What the hell? So if you are racist or rude against anyone only someone black can moderate it?

PandaLeaves · 02/08/2021 14:16

I'm not at all a regular poster on this forum and just watched the video as the thread appeared in Active Convos.

I can't make out what the 'dialogue' here is. It's a disturbing video due to the howling and whimpering of 'Abigail'. What's the story about the panties? Confused Please can someone explain?

Just judging the body language of the woman crying, whaling, crouching and covering her ears makes me think she could be autistic. But I can't make out what is being said so might be getting this completely wrong.

PandaLeaves · 02/08/2021 14:21

And part of me thinks that the whole thing is just fake. The way that woman faints looks exceptionally theatric like in a school play with lack of talent. Who knows, what the story is here. It would help to know what'Abigail' is actually saying. The whimpering is hard to watch.

As someone who us autistic, I find your assumption that someone who attacks someone else must be autistic offensive.

She's screaming I didn't try to hit you. After she was filmed trying to hit someone.

Did you actually read what I wrote or just jump to conclusions arbitrarily?

Is what I said. I haven't seen any evidence of hitting. Have you?

Thank you, I couldn't make that out as this sound quality is awful. Is there footage of Abigail hitting?

Yes who knows what the story is. It could be that the most straight forward assumption is actually the truth. Racist Karen gets caught on camera assaulting a black woman. When caught out she pulls out all the drama that she can to get away with it. Most people on this thread do not find that hard to believe because as have witnessed it happened to either ourselves or loved ones over and over. We don’t for second doubt what’s happened here. Then there are other people who go all out to defend the indefensible. Much as it was when the video of George Floyd went viral. It happens for two reasons. 1) people have never experienced it and so they can’t possibly imagine that something like this would happen, they are so wrapped up in their white privilege so they can’t understand that THEIR reality where things like this don’t happen, isn’t the reality of people of colour. 2) People are hell bent as shown on this thread to prove the white assaulted the victim. She is autistic, she is distressed, what happened before the video bla bla bla. SHE IS RACIST. And she is crying because she got caught on camera BEING A VILE RACIST.

That's why it had to be filmed. Why would you doubt the most likely explanation that the black woman is telling the truth and the white woman physically attacked her ? Most adults who are physically attacked haven't done something to explain the attack. Some people are just physically violent.

If there were extenuating circumstances like the white woman was mentally ill (say paranoid) then the black woman still deserves people to check that she's ok because it must be a scary encounter to have.

Everybody knows an adult who will deflect negative attention on themselves so it's not hard to believe that someone would try and act like they are the victim and not the aggressor. If you're a parent you've probably seen your kids try this trick.

PandaLeaves · 02/08/2021 16:49

Abigail seems to be hitting someone at the beginning of the video, I missed that. Crazy stuff. The crouching and hiding are behaviours I've seen and had to calm down in women with autism but I'm not saying that Abigail is autistic. She is causing a massive scene and has upset people in the process, she should apologise and be taken to court for assault and offensive behaviour.

The whole things is just batshit. Americans fighting over free panties. Bonkers .

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 02/08/2021 17:04

She "faints" in a way clearly designed not to hurt herself. She's as fake as they come.

EchoNan · 02/08/2021 17:22

To be absolutely clear here.
The black woman wasn't fighting over free panties.

Abigail Elphick crowded in on the black woman . The black woman asked Abigail Elphick to give her some space. (Covid etc.)

That's when Abigail lost the plot, and instead of moving back a bit, she hit out. Abigail was the aggressor. That is when the black woman started recording.
Then Abigail realised that she was being recorded and lost the plot.

The black woman was NOT fighting, NEVER hit anyone.
She was recording because she feared that the aggressive white woman would make a false allegation to the police. Which turned out to be a smart move imo.

From the Police report. Police Officer's words ( Not mine)

Miss Elphick seemed to acknowledge that she was wrong, saying she was concerned about losing her job and apartment if the video posted online

I asked her several times if she was alright and if she needed an ambulance. And she declined repeatedly. She kept expressing her concern about her job and apartment. She finally stated that she was going home, and I asked if she would be OK to drive and she says she was. At this time, Ms. Elphick left the mall voluntarily with mall security.

The police officer seems very concerned about the well being of the aggressor. Yet never asked how the victim was.

I realise that is a great stretch for some people's small and narrow mindsets to acknowledge that this is what happened.

It's on BMN because it happens to black people a lot, and it was a disscussion between black mumsnetters. Why? Because we don't have to keep explaining the same crap over and over to each other. We know that this shit happens.
