What backlash?!

I'm so relieved. Was not expecting this at all. Thank God.

PompomDahlia · 20/04/2021 22:16

Thank God. Relief for a second

Orchidflower1 · 20/04/2021 22:18

Wow, I know it’s right but I really was not expecting it. Thoughts and prayers answered.

Fallyi · 20/04/2021 22:19

I wasn't expecting it either!

Starseeking · 20/04/2021 22:19

This is brilliant news, the right verdict.

TulipSandwiches · 20/04/2021 22:19

I wasn't either.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2021 22:20

What backlash?!

Sorry - initial response immense relief. But every progressive step has had a reaction so possibly I should just enjoy the moment!

I am so grateful justice prevailed this time around at last. We watched a Derek Chauvin kneel on a man's neck for 9 minutes and then had to listen to the defense team tell us he died because: his heart was too big, of an overdose, or because the witnesses' angry reaction was somehow responsible for Derek's decision to kill a man.

Good, it's not enough, but it's long overdue

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2021 22:23

The prosecution had a good response to that Chauvin's "heart was too small". It summed it up.

Thank God

AmandaHoldensLips · 20/04/2021 22:27

I'll never forget the sight of that bastard kneeling on GF's neck, looking so casual, hands in his pockets. I hope he gets to live a bit of GF's terrifying nightmare every single day in prison.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/04/2021 22:27

I cried for three days when I watched that video of his murder. He could have been any of our sons, dads, brothers, uncles.

Justice has been served, but there's still so much work to be done. I hope it's the start of real change and not just something that's been done to appease us then go back to business as usual.

Weird how the felon didn't even flinch when they read the verdict. What a psychopath

HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/04/2021 22:29

I hope he has an interesting time in prison.

CircleofWillis · 20/04/2021 22:32

Such a relief! I hoped for this verdict but didn't expect it at all. I feel so tearful. As a PP said George is our fathers our brothers ours sons our husbands and our lovers.

Rege · 20/04/2021 22:32

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED!!! Hope he rots in jail. This is only the beginning, the whole Minneapolis police force should be hung out to dry. Power crazy racist men and women, think they can kill with impunity because they are somehow superior to blacks.

PompomDahlia · 20/04/2021 22:35

Chauvin looked surprised. He thought he'd get away with it IMO. I haven't watched any of the trial leading up to it - it's too harrowing. And yes, I completely relate to feeling like that could be my brother. It's personal for us.

Starseeking · 20/04/2021 22:39

I hope they lock him up for the rest of his life, and NOT in solitary confinement "for his own safety". He needs to be mixed with the whole prison population.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/04/2021 22:42

I feel weird typing 'justice has been served' because it doesn't feel like justice. Obviously I'm happy he's been found guilty, but GF and all the other unarmed black men killed at the hands of the police should still be alive.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2021 22:48

Because basically feeling relief at a bit of basic justice isn't justice. If that makes sense.

In a just world George Floyd would be alive.

Someone said it's 'accountability' not justice. He should still be alive. As should Trayvon, Tamir, Breonna and so many more

Yes exactly this. Let's see what sentencing brings.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/04/2021 22:53

Yes, exactly that. Thanks for articulating what I'm feeling.

Starseeking · 20/04/2021 22:56

Someone who appears to know about US sentencing guidelines on the thread in the main board suggested that one of the charges could result in 40 years, however because chauvin has no previous convictions, this could be reduced to 12 years.

Also it seems that whatever the length of sentence for each charge, they could run concurrently instead of sequentially, so again chauvin could be locked up for only a few years, rather than decades.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 20/04/2021 22:59

What!!!!
I thought it was always sequential in America

RolloverRollover · 20/04/2021 23:01

I am so happy, just hope the sentence is very, very long.
